Herbal Medicine: Oregano Infused Oil

Medicinal leaves

What's up everybody? I hope y'all are having a great day. My name is Anthony and today we're
going to be making oregano oil or oregano infused oil. So let's go ahead and get started.
All right, so I'm going to be completely honest with y'all. The main reason that why I want to
do this video is because I've been sitting back thinking about my video about four or five months
ago where I talked about redefining what I want to do on this channel. And I got to get out of
my comfort zone because I can't sit around keep doing the same things I've been doing. I got to
explore things that I haven't done before. And that's why I really wanted to jump into herbal
medicine and herbal remedies. Not necessarily because I'm trying to avoid going to the doctor
period, but I figure if I can do some things at my house, it'll be better off than having to go
to the doctor, urgent care, whatever, especially the way prices are going now. If I can nip any of
that stuff in the bud before it happens, I'm going to try it. So why not? And one of the main things
is I grow herbs all around my property. That's the thing. I like to cook. I like to do a lot of
cooking. So obviously if you've watched my channel longer than 15 minutes, you know that I have herbs
everywhere because I cook all the time. However, one thing I've been learning and I've been really
kind of jumping into is the fact that a lot of these herbs have compounds, chemical compounds
that are very good for medicinal purposes. One of those being oregano. And if you remember my
video a couple of weeks ago about a perennial spotlight on oregano, I kind of jumped into a
little bit about the medicinal purposes of that or medicinal uses of that. And there's two compounds
in there called thymol and carbacrol that are existing in oregano. Now those two things are
antiseptic. You know, they kill bacteria, antifungal, antiviral. They all have these
certain types of properties. Now, one of the studies I read, again, I'll post that link down
below to this study, this paper that's been published, but thymol and carbacrol have been
proven that they kill staphylococcus infection. So obviously there's going to be certain different
kind of amounts, that kind of stuff, but it really got my wheels spinning that, hey, maybe somebody
who's making oil of oregano or oregano saps might be onto something here. I mean, let's be honest,
if we can do something natural, say you get a cut that gets slightly infected, starts showing signs
of infection, do you want to have to use your antibiotics if you don't have to, or do you want
to take antibiotics at all and kind of ruin your gut bacteria, your gut balance? You know, if you
could avoid having to use antibiotics, then that's an even better step for you. So if I can do
something topically, say put some oil of oregano on there to take care of that infection itself,
then I'm going to try that first. So it really got my wheels spinning. I really wanted to try
to jump into doing this and not just reading about it. So I'm going to put my money where
my mouth is and we're going to go make some oil of oregano. So let's go outside and get started.
Right after you want to rinse them so you don't get any bugs or dirt, I'm going to pat dry,
make sure these are dry. All right, now they're somewhat dry. We're going to go ahead and get
the leaves off the stems because you really can't use the stem. You can only really use the leaves.
So let's go ahead and strip them off. All right, now it says to put as much as you can
inside a jar. So let's go ahead and do it. And yes, this smells lovely. All right, now I'm basically
just going to use good old raw unfiltered olive oil. I'm going to pour it all on top of it until
everything's submerged. I'm going to take a, I don't know, the end of a wood spoon and just see
if I could crush up some of the leaves. Common sense would make it so if you crush up and bruise
the leaves a little bit more than when you're cutting them, you might release some more of the
oil. So I figured I might as well. All right, now I'm just going to cap it off and stick it in a
sunny windowsill. All righty, here is our final product. This is going to go on the windowsill
for about two and a half to three weeks, a sunny windowsill. And we've got to give it a stir or a
shake every single day. No big deal. And in about two and a half weeks, three weeks, we're going to
have oregano oil or oregano infused oil. So the reason why I did all this is because I really
want to make a salve. The way to do it is you use like a certain ratio. I think it's like nine to
one or eight to one. I'll do research for that video in a little bit. And you mix it with beeswax
to make it solid, more solid, so you can use it and apply it to whatever skin break you may have.
Use it topically to, you know, prevent some sort of infection. So that's the whole reason why I
wanted to do all this. And I wanted to see, hey, if I could go ahead and do this. And it's pretty
simple, straightforward. If I can do it, you can do it. Go ahead and give it a try. Looks pretty
easy enough as it is. But you will see the final results of this when I strain everything to make
the salve in about three weeks. So stay tuned to that. But if you learn something from this video,
please go ahead and give me that thumbs up. Subscribe to my channel if you haven't.
And I'll catch y'all later. Okay, bye.
