Hello!
In today's video, I'm reviewing five new and new-to-me under-eye concealers that I've been
thoroughly testing on my dry under-eyes with dark circles.
Three are drugstore price, the other two are high-end, and in today's concealer roundup,
in no particular order, we're taking a look at the new Tarte Creaseless Creamy Under-Eye
Corrector and Concealer.
And this one from Thread that I grabbed when I was walking through Target, Ulta Beauty
has done a rebrand on several of their products, including their Complexion Crush Concealer
and Foundation.
And for some reason, even though I tried the original foundation, I never tried the concealer.
So I'll be sharing my thoughts on it today, along with Danessa Myrick's new Yummy Skin
Lift and Flex Concealer and the Joah Hydrating Eye Serum Concealer that a lot of you have
been asking me to try.
I'll show you how they apply, what they look like on me, give you price breakdowns, and
of course my full thoughts on each.
Welcome back to my channel, welcome if you're new.
I'm very picky when it comes to under-eye products in general, so let's see how these
under-eye concealers stack up and if any of them might work for you.
Before we start, if you think you're my concealer or foundation shade match twin, I keep running
shade match lists over on my blog so you can reference them anytime, and they're almost
always linked in all of my description boxes for you.
If you look below the video, you'll see the video title and below that the word more.
Just click on it and the description box will populate, and I'll also have all the products
I'm sharing and wearing in today's video for you too, and I'll have as many products as
I can linked through the YouTube shopping icons for those of you who like to shop that
way too.
I'm 49 years old, so the texture is definitely not getting any less the older I get, and
I am someone that needs to set my under-eye area.
If you don't, that's fantastic, but my anatomy is such that I just always crease right under
my lash line no matter how creaseless a concealer says it is, but I always show you what these
concealers look like when they're not set as well as when they are, and I'll have my
number one favorite under-eye setting powder listed and linked for you down below.
So I wasn't sure what order I wanted to go in when I sat down to film, so I'm gonna go
in alphabetical order.
Why not?
It works.
Starting with Danessa Myricks Yummy Skin Lift and Flex Concealer, which looks so small compared
to other concealers, but this is a case where looks can be deceiving.
So this is $30 for .32 ounces, which is a perfectly normal size for a concealer.
If you look at this compared to Dior, they look vastly different.
Dior looks a lot larger, but it's .37 ounces, and this is .32.
It's really just packaging, and I'm gonna go ahead and show you the Ulta concealer that
I'll be reviewing later.
This is half the amount in here.
This is .16 versus .32.
So always look at the actual amount that you're getting inside.
I've seen people in the reviews complain how small this is.
You're not getting less product in here.
It's just less wasteful packaging.
So there are 20 flexible shades in this range designed to match every skin tone.
I grabbed shade 5, which is described as light with peach undertones.
This is vegan and cruelty free, and this was designed to be a serum hybrid complexion improving
concealer that flexes and moves with your skin.
It has really nice ingredients, hyaluronic acid and vitamin E to hydrate, caffeine to
brighten and tighten, and centella to soothe, moisturize, and strengthen your skin barrier.
It's supposed to give medium to full coverage and a soft matte finish.
I find this blends out quickly and easily and is buildable from medium to medium full
coverage depending on whether I wear a corrector underneath it or whether I wear it alone.
I don't get full coverage from it like it claims.
You may if you have less dark circles, less discoloration than I do.
Now going back to what I said earlier about how I crease pretty badly underneath my lash
line, this is one of those concealers that does that pretty quickly.
If I start doing other things before I set my under eye area, I have a lot of bunching
up under my lash line that I need to press out before I set it.
Probably since it's so skincare infused, it's not a deal breaker.
I can press everything out and set it and it looks really natural and flattering and
it wears well throughout the day.
Now this is an interesting concealer for me because it feels lightweight and it looks
really nice.
But even though there are all these nice skincare ingredients in here, I don't notice extra
hydration during the day, yet it doesn't increase the dryness under my eyes during the day either.
But I could see if you don't usually use creamy hydrating eye creams in the morning during
your skincare step or if you have extremely dry dehydrated under eyes more so than I do
and mine are pretty dry, that you could feel or look kind of dry with this.
So if you're someone who doesn't like to set your under eye area and you're very crease
prone or you just hate concealers that crease, this may not be the concealer for you.
And if you have very dry under eyes, you may not like this one.
And this one was okay for me.
Not my favorite.
Not my least favorite.
It definitely doesn't replace my favorite concealers.
If you have normal under eyes or moderately dry under eyes, you may want to check this
out.
There are some really nice ingredients in here and it does give nice coverage and it's
really flattering.
I want to take a brief moment to thank Sleep and Glow for giving me a discount code for
you guys and for sponsoring this portion of today's video.
I have been using a Sleep and Glow pillow for four years now.
At least I've shared them countless times here on my channel.
I will not sleep without my Sleep and Glow Omnia pillow.
I even travel with it when I can.
It has made such a difference in my life.
If you wake up in the morning with lines or indentations pressed into your face from your
pillow or with puffiness, that was me too.
Let me explain how this works and why it's a necessity for me.
As we age, we form expression lines from facial movements, from smiling and frowning.
If you think about it, most of those lines are horizontal.
Our crow's feet, our forehead lines, not all of them, but most.
As we age, we also develop a different kind of wrinkle called sleep wrinkles because we're
also sleeping for hours at a time with our face squished against a pillow.
Those wrinkles are mostly vertical instead of horizontal like expression lines.
And as we age, we're losing at a more rapid pace collagen, elastin, and facial fat and
all those things that kept our face nice and plump and youthful looking and at the same
time we're becoming really great at retaining more fluid at night, which causes us to wake
up puffy.
So over time, the sleep indentations, wrinkles, and the puffiness lasts longer and longer
during the day.
Sometimes it can take hours for it to go down.
And over time, those sleep wrinkles, just like expression wrinkles, become permanent
and are extremely difficult to correct.
So what's that phrase?
An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, meaning it's easier to be proactive
and prevent something from happening in the first place than to repair the damage done
later from that occurrence, which is what this baby's for.
This has completely eliminated those issues for me.
It's designed so that no part of your face is squished anymore when you're laying on
your side.
So I don't wake up with little impression lines, sleep wrinkles, or puffiness.
I look more well rested in the morning, even if I don't feel that way.
I also find I have less neck pain.
It was designed by orthopedists to ensure proper alignment and correct body positioning
during sleep.
I sleep on my Omnia pillow every single night.
I'm excited that you can save 10% site-wide.
They do have other products as well you can check out while you're there, and you can
save 10% with my code stephanie10.
The link and the code are in my description box down below.
Next up is Joah Hydrating Eye Serum Concealer.
This is $11.99 for 0.2 ounces.
I grabbed this off Amazon after several people telling me I needed to try it because they
loved it so much.
There are 10 shades, and I grabbed Fair Light with Cool Undertones.
So there are several claims to this.
It's supposed to be a multitasking, skincare-infused concealer.
There are so many skincare-infused concealers these days.
It's supposed to improve hydration and help with fine lines and reduce puffiness.
Now what caught my eye immediately with the description is that it's infused with ceramides
and peptides.
It also said vitamin E and shea butter, but when I looked at the ingredient list, the
ceramides and one peptide are at the bottom of that list.
So take that for what you will.
Now you can see it has a sponge-tip applicator that is not my favorite.
The lid's already gunky.
It has sort of a thin, creamy gel texture as I start to blend it out.
Now the clips you're seeing are from the first time I ever tried this.
I was really excited, and I tried it without a corrector, and I found it was sort of blending
away.
So I needed to use really light pressure, and with one layer, I was getting somewhere
between light to medium coverage, closer to light.
So I started to layer it to get more coverage as I often do, and when I look closer in my
mirror, I noticed it was starting to look a little dry, powdery, kind of chalky.
It just wasn't settling well.
It's so hard for me to show you on camera what I'm seeing in my mirror.
I'm hoping you can see that, and it still wasn't getting enough coverage.
So I went in with a little bit more, as I often do, and still wasn't getting enough
coverage, but it was looking really dry, kind of like it was sitting on top of my skin.
So I decided just to start over, this time with corrector underneath, because this alone
is not giving me the coverage I need.
The corrector I used was my Bobbi Brown Stick Corrector in Bisque.
Now although it sat better and didn't quite look as dry, I still wasn't getting the coverage
level that I wanted or needed.
I tried it several other days over various correctors and found that it gave me a demi-matte
finish and felt lightweight, but just didn't give me the coverage level that I personally
like from a concealer and looked a bit drier than I prefer my concealer to look.
So I'm gathering that those of you that love this so much have less dry under eyes than
I do, and maybe less discoloration.
This just doesn't give me what the concealers that I love give me, unfortunately.
I gave it a good shot or several good shots and just didn't do it.
I am always open to trying what you guys suggest.
Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't.
I think though, if you have little to moderate discoloration and less dry under eyes, this
is probably worth trying.
It's at a great price point, it's easily accessible on Amazon, and there are some really nice
ingredients in here.
Now it's time to talk about Tarte Creaseless Creamy Concealer and Corrector.
These retail for $30 for 0.225 ounces.
The corrector comes in five shades.
I grabbed peachy pink and the concealer comes in 34 shades.
I wasn't sure which shade to order because the entire shade range runs a bit deep.
So I landed on 22N Light Neutral, which is described as light skin with a balance of
warm and cool undertones.
It works pretty well as a brightening concealing shade.
I could have gone a little bit deeper, but this is working pretty well.
So this is cruelty free and vegan.
It's supposed to give a full coverage, natural finish.
And they say on the 60% of the bottle is skincare ingredients.
And there's an incredibly long list of all the beneficial ingredients and what they do.
I'll have it here on the screen for you.
There are ingredients to brighten, hydrate, reduce the look of fine lines and even the
look of your skin.
And it's supposed to leave your skin moisturized looking and not dry and flat while providing
24 hours of hydration, 12 hour wear without creasing, breaking down or settling into fine
lines.
It's also waterproof.
Let's talk about the corrector first.
This has a slim paintbrush style applicator that surprised me.
I don't know why.
I just wasn't expecting that.
And I think you can see in the clip, I smelled the applicator as I was applying it.
And it does blend quickly and easily, but I noticed a sort of chemical scent in the
corrector that the concealer doesn't have.
The concealer smells like nothing, but there is a scent here.
And when I noticed the scent, I always mention it.
I didn't notice it after it was applied, but I noticed it when I was applying it.
It does a pretty good job of correcting and brightening in one step.
And I'd say this has medium coverage for a corrector.
It feels lightweight and it's hydrating.
I wouldn't say this is my favorite corrector I have in my collection because of the coverage
level.
But it's decent and it accompanies the concealer nicely if you have moderate or light discoloration
under your eyes and you're looking for a hydrating corrector, you would probably really like
this one.
But for me, the concealer is the main focus here.
And the concealer has a regular doe foot applicator and a thin, creamy texture that also blends
out quickly and easily.
If I'm applying it alone or over the corresponding corrector, I get medium to medium full coverage.
I prefer to use a different corrector to get solid, medium, full, close to full coverage
though.
It layers well over corrector and over itself and doesn't look cakey.
It feels lightweight and hydrating and has a natural hydrated appearance.
It's left unset and it doesn't crease a lot under my lash line if I do other things before
I set it.
So if you're not prone to creasing, this very well may be creaseless.
It also doesn't look cakey after I set it.
It still looks natural and it wears beautifully throughout the day.
It doesn't get dry or emphasize texture or fine lines.
Now keep in mind, I get more coverage from this when I'm pairing it with one of my beloved
under eye correctors.
But I think this is a fantastic hydrating concealer that's great for all skin types,
including dry and mature skin looking for a medium buildable to medium full coverage
concealer.
I was really happy with this.
This is going to stay in my rotation.
This is the least expensive concealer in this video and one I picked up when I was walking
through Target.
It caught my eye.
I didn't even know this brand existed.
Did you?
Let me know in the comments down below.
This is the Thread Cover It Multi-Use Complexion Fluid Concealer.
It's $8 for 0.43 ounces.
Now standing there in the aisle, I had no idea how many shades there actually were,
if everything was out or what the numbers meant.
I estimated that shade 03 might work for me and when I got home, I found out there were
11 shades and shade 03 is light warm, which is not what I would have ordered.
I don't typically go for warm shades because when shades are too yellow, they just almost
make me look sick.
Typically peachy, pinky tones are a little bit better for the discoloration under my
eyes.
They just counterbalance that a little better.
But this has actually worked pretty well.
It works really well on my face and the sunspots that are on my chest too, but it's not a brightening
shade.
So this is a buildable and blendable medium to full coverage formula that's supposed to
give long wearing crease resistant coverage that truly looks like skin.
There are ingredients in here to promote soft supple skin and to improve dry and damaged
skin and to help increase luminosity and renew your skin's resilience.
Now this, unlike the previous concealers we've talked about, has a thick creamy texture and
a little bit goes a long way.
You need very little of this to do the job.
So how much ever you think you need, use less.
It applies and blends out very quickly though, which is really nice for a thicker concealer
and it does truly build from medium to full coverage.
It feels hydrating and lightweight and looks natural and skin like it kind of fuses with
your skin if you don't go in too heavy handed.
If you use too much, it will end up cakey.
As I was using it and as I'm sitting here describing it to you, it reminds me of the
tube version of the Tarte Maracuja Juicy Concealer, which is also was sort of a new release several
months ago.
They launched it.
The Pot Concealer.
It kind of reminds me of that in a way.
Very creamy, very full coverage, skin like, natural looking.
But if you went in with too much, it would end up cakey and heavy and I would see that
in the reviews.
It's cakey.
It's heavy.
It's not cakey and heavy if you use the tiniest amount.
The Danessa Myricks Concealer I talked about earlier in this video is supposed to flex
with your skin, but I found with my skin that meant gathering into my little lines underneath
my lash line.
This, the way it fuses and meshes with my skin, does move with my under eye area, but
I don't get that same gathering of product under my lash line.
I can apply this, move around, do a bunch of things, and I barely have to press out
any creases at all before I apply my setting powder.
And I only need the tiniest bit of setting powder for this to be fine all day long.
And it looks and feels great all day.
Not only that, this is a great concealer to pinpoint spot conceal my face with too.
This turned out to be a really nice, full coverage, hydrating concealer that took me
by surprise.
I think if you have dry under eyes, mature under eyes, and you're looking for something
that can be built up to full coverage, but that looks natural and not cakey, as long
as you don't use too much of it, I think you'll really like this one.
This is the Ulta Beauty Collection Complexion Crush Full Coverage Concealer, which was previously
known just as the Full Coverage Concealer.
They just added Complexion Crush in front of it and changed the packaging.
The ingredients are still the same.
I did verify that.
I just somehow never tried this, which I guess does make sense because I tried the Complexion
Crush Foundation, but this wasn't called Complexion Crush then.
So this is $12 for 0.16 ounce.
This looks like it has more than one six ounce in it, but it doesn't.
There are 16 shades.
I grabbed shade Light Neutral.
It's cruelty free and vegan, and this is supposed to be basically a filter for your under eyes.
They also say it's a full coverage formula with a creamy texture and a weightless matte
finish that's waterproof.
I always like finding waterproof concealers.
It has chamomile and tea tree oil to condition, green tea as an antioxidant, and aloe vera
to soothe.
So this has a thicker sort of tacky texture that kind of adheres to my skin as I blend
it out.
When I tried to use a brush, it wanted to sit on top of my skin.
So I had to finish tapping and blending it out with my finger to fully blend it into
my skin.
I find that unlike the other concealers in this video, this takes some time to blend
it out to where it looks natural on my skin.
And so it doesn't look kind of sandy or powdery dry, probably because this does have a matte
finish and I have dry under eyes and sometimes the two just don't go together.
Okay, now let's talk about the coverage.
I'm sorry, but the audacity that they have to call this full coverage, it's just laughable.
Maybe they tested this on people with the lightest dark circles in the world, but this
gives me light medium to medium coverage at best, even over corrector.
This is two light layers over a corrector, plus a tiny dab over the darkest part of my
under eye hollows.
This is not a full coverage concealer.
Now it does feel lightweight, even though it has a dry matte finish.
I'll give it that.
I think there are some great products within the Ulta Beauty Collection range.
But for me, this is not one of them.
I know everyone's different.
If you're someone who doesn't need much coverage under your eyes, you don't have a lot of discoloration
or very dark circles, maybe you just wake up some mornings looking a little tired.
You just didn't get much sleep and wake up with a little bit of darkness and you have
no dryness under your eyes and you don't need as much coverage as something like this would
give you.
This might work.
As always, let me know if you've tried or use any of these and if you agree with my
reviews and give me suggestions for other concealers to test and review.
That's how I found some of my favorite concealers.
I am working on my best of the best top concealers for mature, dry under eyes with dark circles.
Thank you for your patience with that.
It's taking some time to weed through some really great concealers to give you the cream
of the crop.
