Revealed: 6 Catastrophic Asteroids on Course to Crash into Earth
The Earth has already experienced devastating asteroid impacts. Most famously, about 66 million years ago, a six-mile-wide asteroid hit the Yucatán Peninsula in Mexico, causing the extinction of the dinosaurs and leaving a 115 mile wide crater. Even smaller asteroids can have significant impacts, as demonstrated by the 2013 Chelyabinsk meteor, which, despite being only 59 feet wide, exploded over Russia, injuring 1,500 people and damaging 7,300 buildings.
