Hikumi and I tend to be more on the adventurous side.
I want to ride more.
So we decided to rent a car and explore the south of Albania.
This is crazy.
For a five day road trip.
This is road trip day one getting lost in Albania.
Some of the things we have figured out,
but everything is not figured out.
We have some planned things that are awesome.
So you guys better make sure you like and subscribe and stick around
and some things we're just going to wing it.
So we just rented this car.
It's about $100 for five days,
which is good because taxis are quite expensive for us to go to the market.
It takes about $16 in the taxi and for us to rent a car for the entire day.
It takes $20.
This is the way to go.
We're very excited.
Let me finish packing.
Let's go.
This is our first road trip here in Albania
and actually our first time ever renting a car.
So we're very excited because you know,
you get to see more you get to do so much more when you have your own vehicle
and you can go at your own pace.
You actually have the time to get lost if you want to
and sometimes we get lost on purpose.
We're going to stay in Himara tonight,
but on the way our first stop is called Apollonia.
It was an ancient Greek trading colony around 600 BC.
Left here.
The way here.
Only ones here, of course.
We normally are everywhere we go.
Look at this.
It's so flat.
You hear the birds?
Yeah, right? It sounds so nice.
It's like a proper Europe spring.
And it's not cold at all.
Yeah.
Beautiful day.
It looks old.
There's even stone just parting inside the stone.
I should have brought the light.
Wow.
That is so cool.
I've seen it in Paris when I went to Ruble Museum.
It's like, I'm here.
It's nice.
This is 2nd to 3rd century AD.
It's made out of marble.
Oh yeah, marble.
Caesar.
Oh boy, look at that face though.
Look at that mug.
I wonder if they're decapitated or they're meant to not have their heads.
Because this one looks like it's supposed to be like that.
Yeah.
But every single head is knocked off.
Maybe this is like a pillar somewhere.
And back here, it's just all this green behind you.
That's a cool contrast.
Yeah.
So you have these ancient 400 BC Roman stone carves.
Proper Greek ancient ruling like with these letters.
So they knew about lions.
So they've been to Africa, right?
Because that's the only place they had them.
So they went to Africa.
They already been to Africa.
They know about this animal.
That's cool.
This would be the Catholic Church.
This is cool, huh?
It's so quiet and peaceful in here.
So cool.
Stone rocks.
There's so many carvings.
Everything.
Oh, wow.
Different animals.
Yeah.
What is this?
Wow.
So this used to be...
It's all in Albanian.
Look at that tile.
We don't know, but look at it.
All this ancient mosaic.
Wow.
We have no clue what it is.
Look at this.
Even this has Christian paintings.
This stuff is so cool, though.
I don't know how to describe it.
As an American, you don't have this rich, deep history to the country.
And it's such an exciting thing to see the real artifacts.
Artifacts.
These are proper artifacts.
It is so cool.
And the details in some of this stuff.
I wish we were able to show you guys in the museum.
I took a picture, so I'll update on Instagram.
Yeah, follow us on Instagram if we haven't already.
We can always use some advice on places to go when we're somewhere.
So while we're here in Albania, we would love to hear your guys' opinions and advice on where we should touch down while we're here.
What we came stop by here to see is the ancient theater ruins.
It just looks epic.
And then you have this field here with all this pink lavender looking.
Even on the trees, you have it on the ground.
You got the birds chirping.
This is a perfect way to start off the road trip, honestly, man.
You know, sometimes the best part about traveling is just going.
You don't even have to have a plan.
Sometimes a plan forms on the way.
So that's when they would watch something.
It's it right here. Kick back.
How they do. And she's gone.
That was an awesome stop.
I really like that. All right.
So next stop is brunch in Vlorë.
We get the sponsor. The rebel. One day.
Hopefully, who knows? Rebel, holla at your boy.
Look at this. Wow.
I know. A palm tree.
Food of thought. You see these in Albania.
And then this city or town by the ocean like that.
It's such an awesome random thing to come on.
And I don't know if it's Vlorë or Vlorë,
but it's the third largest city in Albania.
And it sits right on the sea.
You have the city drop to the back of you with the restaurants and cafes
and apartments where everyone lives.
And then over here, you just have the ocean and mountain.
Makes me want to work out. That's a very short tunnel.
This is crazy. To the left.
It almost looks like such a barren landscape.
Some of it looks so dry. And then you just pan straight to the right.
And then you just see we're on this road that's on the side of this cliff.
That's just over the ocean, right next to the ocean.
And it's so freaking beautiful, man.
We're actually driving into this mountain.
We had no idea. Thought we're going to stay beachside.
But yeah, I guess we're going around.
It is what it is. Holy crap, look at this view.
I don't know if you can see how deep that goes down.
Yeah, it goes down deeper.
So cool. Never seen anything like this before.
We started to find some emoji bunkers on the side of the road.
Those were built under the order of Enver Hoxha, the paranoid communism dictator.
It's interesting to see the evidence of the dark time of history into something bright.
Same like the huge murals on the buildings in Tirana.
That is beautiful. Holy ----.
Only concern is that deforestation, but wow, this is crazy.
That was quite cold, actually.
That is so serious. So unexpected.
I thought we're just going on a coastline.
Never knew we're going through the mountain, coming out to the valley.
To this. And this is just breathtaking.
You can imagine we had to stop. It was an obligation. Oh my gosh.
Look, another emoji bunker.
We're winding down this mountain and there's just emoji bunkers the whole way down.
It's such a cool thing, especially with an ocean view like this. This is crazy.
This is so cool.
Wow.
Albany, are you crazy?
Can you see that? Can you see this?
It looks so like ancient. Wow.
So awesome. It's like just a town built in this style.
They're on a cliff. On the side of this cliff.
So Ikumi made us bring the bottle because she said somewhere we're going to find some natural mountain water.
I didn't believe her, but she was actually right.
We found some and we saw some locals getting some.
So we're about to go.
You must be right. We're at a fork in the mountain.
So we don't know if we should go straight or wrap around here.
Wrap around? We have to go through that mountain.
It looks like we're in Greece over here.
So we were getting lost and then this lady stopped by
and asked us about the place we're going.
So I don't know if she knows or whatever.
So we're following her now, but look, you got the ocean right here.
So this is the place. All in all, it's a very simple spot.
You know, there's a nice bathroom, but this is why we booked.
Look at this view. You can't beat this.
This is our porch and it's so quiet.
No one's even here. We're the only car parked here.
It's so peaceful up here.
Such a nice day. First day of the road trip. Success so far.
Big success. Albania, you surprise us.
Yeah, so we don't have that much stuff to pack.
Obviously, we're going to keep a lot in the car and we're going to settle in.
Now, this is a perfect way to end the first day of the trip.
Some fresh water from the mountain and a view like this.
I'll see you guys tomorrow.
Life surprise. Side track. We can still go back.
It says Apollonia. She lost my Yeti mug.
So we have to go back.
Now, this is a perfect way to end the first day of our trip.
Some fresh water mountain.
Water mountain. What does that even mean?
