Today we're in Napanee, a small town not too far from Kingston, here to explore a new area close to home. We came here to see the Christmas lights at night but realized there were quite a few things to do during the day. So we explored! We got coffee, toured the town, ate at Ellena's Cafe, learned about the history of Napanee, went wine tasting at 33 vines and Bergeron Estates, had hot cider and apple fitters outside with goats at Loyalist Trading Co, and had dinner at the Waterfront River Pub, all before checking out the Christmas lights.
Thanks for watching! 😄
We upload a new adventure every Monday!

👩❤️👨MORE ABOUT US: We met at LaSalle Secondary School in Kingston Ontario and we’ve been together for over 8 years now. Keith comes from a bilingual military family and Devon from a Kingston family of teachers. We made it through Queen’s University together where Keith studied Mechanical Engineering and Devon, Concurrent Education and Global Development. Come January 2022 we have bigger plans in mind. Our goal is to #travel full time, become self-employed, and #explore the world while sharing what we’ve learned and capturing our #experiences. 🌎✈️📚
Good morning from
We're Keith and Deb our goal is to make the most of each day with adventures big and small
This past year. We've been exploring Canada from Vancouver all the way to Quebec City and today we're in Napani
Like this and they all just like
Holy crap, so many geese. We're in the car. It is too cold outside for the fingers
We're not used to the cold Canadian weather yet
It's not even that cool. It's just you know, harden the fingers. So we're in the car gonna warm up. We're gonna get some coffee
There is no indoor seating
Fair enough, we're still in the pandemic. So you're probably wondering why are we in Napani today in November?
That is true. The first reason is it's a beautiful Saturday and it's really close to Kingston
So we wanted to explore a new town and a second reason Keith is
Because we've been told by so many people to come here for the Christmas lights when they say there's some pretty intense Christmas lights
They mean it. They weren't kidding and maybe do some Christmas shopping while we're here
In Napani
So although Napani is a small little town here
It's got quite a bit of history and right here is City Hall for example
Completed in 1856, it's a lasting symbol of the development of local government in the 19th century
It's dual function as a town hall and market was a popular arrangement in Ontario before 1870. How's that Sun treating you Debbie?
I feel warm for the first time in like 10 minutes
And that coffee is doing it for you, it's kind of cold somehow but it tastes yummy still
So have you had one coffee today or more than one?
What did you have today?
Well, we got up early this morning. So I may have had two shots of extra. So before we left and a coffee I
Have an issue. Okay, I
Have the same issue
This post office was made or designed or built built in
1888 and it was an optimistic sign that this was going to be a prominent town
This is a great good place really good place
We made it to the Falls
This is in fact why Napanee is here because there used to be a sawmill that was built in the 1780s
And then one of the first grits mills was actually built here first between Kingston and the Niagara Falls Peninsula
So that's why this town exists. Another really awesome cool fact is that this is the town that Avril Lavigne is from
You know, chill out, watch you yell, lay back, it's all been done before
Pretty much the music I grew up watching from this town
Another reason to come here is because of the wineries. Yes, there's wineries really close to Napanee
So we're gonna go check it out. See if they've got some Christmas vibes going
I think we might be the only people. When is it not time to taste wine though? Yeah, what's going on?
Oh, you should wine taste in November just because the vines are dead
Doesn't mean that they don't have wine. Exactly. Shall we? We'll get the place to ourselves. Thank you
It's so beautiful in here like I can't get over this
I have to guess. Oh no. That's the Chardonnay 2013 and you wouldn't have guessed it for sure
Wow, that was amazing. That was
Like I'm blown away the inside of that barn is gorgeous. Also the wine was really good
Very unique. Very unique. They're all so different. Yeah Curtis. Thank you so much for the tasting. That was awesome
They've done such a beautiful beautiful job with the place
They got it in 2019. They bought it from an old vineyard and then it was shut down for five
Abandoned sort of thing bought up again and they've been building it up and it's looking good. Gorgeous
Definitely, almost done upstairs. If you're doing a Prince Edward County wine tour definitely stop here. What's next Keith? What's next?
We can either go to another winery or we can go to the trading post
Should we go to Bergeron winery? Since we're doing winery stuff
Let's go to the other one
We made it to the next little winery literally two minute drive away from the last one
This place is called Bergeron Estates or Bergeron I guess
Yep, maybe French, maybe
Well, that was great another great winery just down the road, thank you very much Josh and look what we got
Oh, is this gonna be a gift? We can't show people here. We can we got some cabernet
No, we'll show you sorry it was maybe it was gonna be a gift but not anymore it's wine jelly
How cool is that? I know the thing off to the trading post
Which used to be a general store we learned and is now like a nice store with fun artistic thingies in it
So maybe we'll find some Christmas gifts
This is so cool, so Sandy was telling us the story
She's the owner of the Loyalist trading post that her and her husband who met in high school
They took a trip to Tofino and she saw a little country store across the country with two goats or goats on the roof and
She told she has a picture of it and she told her husband if they ever got a country store
That they would have goats on the roof. And now they have goats on the roof and it's looking at me
Hey, buddy
Are you scared?
There's also a Christmas event running at the lowest rating company stores, so there's a hot
My goodness we're spoiled
See, this is why I love small towns because you just come across these random things that are so cool
Yeah, this is like goats on the roof
It's so good
So this thing has batter in it and a fresh piece of apple all this beautiful cinnamon and sugar
mmm
Fun fact, there's some cool specs about goats over there goats have four stomachs
like a cow goats are also the most consumed meat and
Or most milk and meats in the world actually come from goat. What but these ones aren't eaten
But in general goats
pretty sure
If I read that wrong, I'm that's really interesting if that's the case
Another fun fact is that you know how coffee was discovered the Ethiopian legend has it that it was a goat herder
And he saw his flock of goats
Frolicking and being super stimulated all of a sudden after hanging out by a red berry bush turns out it was a coffee bean bush
Thank you goats, then I really appreciate your existence because of the goats that we have coffee. Thank you goats. I owe you one
Wow, it's nice being warm and cozy, isn't it nice being inside somewhere? Yes. It's been cold all day
Yeah, I have I'm not used to this cold weather yet. We're at the waterfront
Waterfront River Pub, it's really cute and really nice and there's a lot of options on this cute little menu
So
Yeah, we're gonna take a look at it. We ordered our food
So I was reading this little poster behind me about the history of this place of the waterfront River Pub started as a brewery in
1857 or so in the 1850s and then passed down another brewer and
Marina, it was abandoned in 2011. They made it this beautiful
No, like for real this is a massive holy crap, this is a good this is a really good bang for your buck
You
When they say there's some pretty intense Christmas lights they mean it they weren't kidding. This is impressive. It's really beautiful
It's so cool. All these buildings have their entire top half covered. It looks really beautiful. It's beautiful
That just about does it these lights are phenomenal, I'm really happy we came yeah, not only for these lights but for this day
Especially on a cold day in November, there's still so much to do wine tasting goats on it on the roof
Good food. It was a lot of
And the apple fritters. Yeah, it was a lovely wonderful day. So if you're in the area, thanks, Anthony
Thanks so much for watching. Thanks for watching
Was that a good wink?
No, what happened? Oh no
Mom dad I need a new jacket. I'm happy we stumbled upon this place. What's next?
You see I get stuck in my nose. Look
Sometimes I think we spend too much time together
