Day 6 of the Blue Ridge Parkway trip updates from the road.
A cold front moves in bringing flash flood warnings and rain all across the parkway, but that doesn’t matter, I’m finishing this!
Let’s Go Explore!
Blue Ridge Parkway updates from the road starts right now on Motor Travel USA.
So the rain's coming. I'm getting flash flood warnings from here to Waynesboro on my phone,
but I'm not letting that stop me. I'm finishing the parkway today.
So it's starting to rain right before I head out, but I'm ready to go. I took all non-essentials
off the motorcycle. I'm waterproof and I'm ready to go. I'm ready to finish the Blue Ridge trip
today. Let's get out on the road. So I made it to the parkway and it's raining. It's nothing too
bad just yet. It's kind of a drizzle. It was a little freaky coming over because there was a
great road that I had planned and it would have been awesome had it been dry. First you went up
this huge mountain and then you came down, but it was a ton of curves. However, since it was raining
and I wasn't used to it, the locals, of course, want to go 50-60 miles an hour and I want to go
like 20-30 around these curves when my tires are cold and I don't know the road and pretty tight
turns. That rice mountain right now, it's actually, again, even with the rain, it's not too bad.
You can tell there's a cold front moving in because the temperature has dipped. The climb
latitude is keeping me nice and dry. Water's just beating off of it. All is good. It's still fun.
Visibility, even though it looks like there's fog here, visibility is still pretty good. This is
pretty awesome, even though it's raining. Hopefully, if it stays like this, I'm good.
See you in a bit. I'm further along on the parkway and, man, this is invigorating.
The rain and fog come in and out. Not many other people on the road, but there are some.
It's actually getting a little chilly. The suit being wet on the outside and the wind
kind of chill you to the bone. I'm going to stop at a coffee shop in Waynesboro,
warm up, and hopefully they have some food to eat breakfast, but still having a blast,
even with the fog and rain. Almost there. Well, as always, that was awesome. I made it to the
north end of the Blue Ridge Parkway all the way through. Makes you feel alive. The fog has moved
in. The rain is slight right now, but awesome. Even with this rain, even with this fog, you can
always pull over if you want to. If you've ever dreamt about going to the Blue Ridge Parkway,
do it. Stop waiting and just do it. It's awesome. I've done it a bunch of times and it's still
awesome and a unique experience each time I do it, so just do it. You won't regret it.
I gotta go get some coffee now and warm up. There's a coffee shop right down the street I found,
and I'll see you there. So I'm in the city or town of Waynesboro and I'm going to
the French Press. Let's go inside and check it out.
Still raining after getting out. I think it's going to be raining for the rest of the day
looking at the radar. The French Press was about average. It wasn't great. It looked good,
but it was about an average cup of coffee and it was just a bagel. They didn't have much other
than that, and the service was mediocre. I think against my better judgment, I'm going to go
on the Blue Ridge again to back to the Natural Bridge. All right, see you once I get there.
Oh yeah, before I leave, I wanted to switch gloves. My other gloves soaked through,
so I brought an extra pair just in case this happens. I'm going to put those on now. Here are
my backup pair. More of a winter glove, but that'll be fine. My hands are kind of cold.
Let me get suited up and get over to the parkway. Back at the entrance to the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Fogging and raining, but hey, I'll just take it slow. See you at my first stop.
This is actually the place I think I stopped at when heading to Waynesboro.
It just seems to be above the storm clouds. It's not raining here, so I just needed to wipe my
visor so I could see and just wanted to take a little break. All right, see you at the next stop.
It's still raining, but the fog has cleared in this section. I just needed to stop. I wanted
to find some place to eat. I found a diner close to where my hotel is, and I'm going to head that
way. I've seen a couple more motorcyclists on the road, which is cool, but I'm going to continue.
Still having fun. The rain's not too bad, and the fog is sporadic, so all is good.
Next stop, lunch, I think. I'm going to get out of the rain for a little bit
and have some late lunch at the Pink Cadillac Diner.
Well, that was good. The French onion soup warmed me up, and the salad was good as well.
The service was also good. Definitely stop by the Pink Cadillac Diner if you're ever in the area.
A little chill in there. It's about 57 degrees. I'm going to head back to the hotel to hang my
riding suit up to dry. I'll see you there. Back at the hotel now. The rain has let up a little bit.
My blood has thinned out living in Florida, and I'm a little chilly. The Klim jacket kept me dry,
but just the wind. I think I said it's like 57, and then the wind chill when you're on the bike.
And I didn't bring my long sleeve shirt that I brought with me, or my jacket.
Great day, though. Can't complain any day you finish the Blue Ridge Parkway,
and then get to ride it a little bit more again.
