Ronaldo, there he is pictured. Tell everybody why he's making headlines off the pitch as well as on it.
Well it's all to do with Ronaldo taking the decision to sign up to YouTube and open his
own YouTube channel. Now I think perhaps it was timed because he did it yesterday and the SPL
season starts today but he's been breaking all sorts of YouTube records. For instance he was
the fastest ever person to get to a million subscribers. He did that in an hour and a half.
Six million subscribers. He got to that in six hours. Ten million. It just took him 24 hours
and at the moment he is on 23 million subscribers. For just a few minutes to go until he kicks off
the SPL season they're playing Al Raid in Riyadh tonight. I've just seen some footage of him
arriving at the stadium but I think off the pitch he's very very happy with his profile
because his subscriber numbers are shooting up. I'm not quite sure how it works. I'm not really
that much into social media but I think basically he gets paid per click of all the videos that are
shown on there so he's a very very rich man and I think YouTube are going to make him even richer.
Now I know a few people have been asking how big is he on YouTube? How does he compare to
other people? Now I hope Lionel Messi is not watching this. He's great rival. He never misses
Sky Sports News at Six incidentally so he probably is. Well I'll take your word for that but I'm
really not sure he'll be watching but I hope he's doing something else this evening because
Lionel Messi has only got 2 million YouTube subscribers. The Premier League,
the most exciting league in the world, 7 million subscribers. Real Madrid, his former club, 15
million subscribers. I actually think Barcelona have got a bit more than that. I think Barcelona
have got 17 million. FIFA, the world governing body of football, 21.5 million. I think it's
because people want to watch World Cup goals on that channel. Ronaldo already, even though he's
only been on YouTube for a day, he's up to 23 million pounds. That is rising all the time.
Now I'm not a mathematician but I think if he carries on growing his subscriber base at this
rate then he's going to overtake the one and only Taylor Swift sometime on Saturday or Sunday.
That's if he keeps up this rate of subscriber acquisition and if he keeps it up for a few more
days as well I think sometime on Sunday or Monday he could even have more subscribers on YouTube
than the one and only Justin Bieber. Carvey and Mike, Swifties and Beliebers. There we are. All right
okay so that's all well and good but he's a footballer. Didn't win a thing last year. I'm
not impressed by all that. He's got to win football matches. Did you just call him a footballer?
He's a little bit more than a footballer. No he's a footballer. He's a footballer. He's possibly
the greatest footballer of all time. Greatest what? Footballer. Great. He's a footballer.
You're in a mood tonight. Cristiano Ronaldo has scored I think 897 goals. He's 39 years old.
A lot of people are saying he should retire. In the Euros he didn't score any goals for Portugal.
I think he wants to carry on playing because I think he wants to score a thousand goals. So I
take your point. Last season he didn't win anything in Saudi Arabia. Al Hilal finished 14 points ahead
of his side Al Nasser. Also I think on Saturday there was a Saudi Super Cup. Cristiano was not in
a very good mood because I think his side lost 4-1 but he is breaking all the goal scoring records
in the SBL. So even if his side are not winning trophies and I'm not suggesting he's an egotist
or he's not a team player but I think personal records are very very important to him as well
and I think he's looking ahead and over the horizon in maybe a couple of years time
I think he's thinking I want to get to a thousand goals and I think he can do that in Saudi Arabia.
