so in
1894 Laura her husband amono and their
7-year-old daughter Rose came here
bought 40 acres of land and they because
of the hassles that they had had in um
theet or they lost their Farm they
Diversified so they did poultry
[Music]
Dairy and
[Music]
fruit we're about to take the tour of
their original home that was built by
Alonzo where they took part of their
first Log Cabin here on the property and
made it the kitchen unfortunately we're
not allowed to film inside but we can
take some
[Music]
photos yeah just
[Music]
kidding now eventually this new house
was built and they enlarged the property
from 4 acres to nearly 200
[Music]
acres and it was here in 191 that Laura
started her career as a journalist
writing about Rural Life

Alonso died at Rocky Ridge in 1949 at
the grand old age of 92 and Laura
continued living here until her passing
at the age of 90 in 1957

well that was really really
interesting yeah it's and that really
like that house beautiful house and you
can understand why they really
liked this house wanted to come back
here yeah it feels more like a home yeah
to me it's very very
hely right let's go up and check out the
rock house then

so welcome to the Rock House and this is
where Laura and amono lived from
1928 to
1936 now apparently they never really
liked it here not as much as their
little white house so when Rose moved
out of the white house because she had
been staying there they moved back so
this came about because Rose their
daughter had been traveling Europe had
become a very successful journalist and
with the money she wanted to build a
house for her mom and dad hence the rock
house now
unfortunately we are not allowed to take
any video inside of the home but we are
allowed to take some photos so we're
going to compile a list of photos to
show you what it looks like inside hope
you enjoy it

is
[Music]
so even though they had a brand new
house with all the top line of things
like a refrigerator
Alonzo smart man as he was didn't trust
technology so he decided instead of
using that fancy refrigerator he wanted
to stick with the good old Cold Storage
which is just down here yeah you can
just see it's all over grown you can see
the wall the roof of it that is really
neat I'm surprised they don't uh clean
that off
actually so this is where story ends so
to speak the final resting place I guess
this is where everybody's story ends
though I'm Monza James and Laura Les
1857 to 1949 Laura Engles was
1867 to
1957 he was 92 she was
190 their daughter
Rose December 5th
1886 to October 30th
1968 and there's a little be there a
separate one now I'm wondering with or
not that is rose's baby that she lost in
infancy I'm not sure it doesn't say
anything so there you have
it the end of the
story yeah she brought so much to so
many people through her writings you
know kind
of brought more of what the pioneer life
was like growing up
rest in peace Laura and
Alonzo do you like what we do want to
see more adventures and behind the
scenes footage why not join our patreon
it helps support the channel the link is
in the description below thank you
