Back-to-school tips: Generating meaningful conversations with children

it's the first time for many students returning to the classroom today is going to be a whirlwind of a day especially for the younger kids the day will be filled with learning new faces new names and remembering what time to get to lunch and recess and as a parent we always want to know all the things about their day but some kids aren't always so open and transparent and some maybe they struggle to articulate it we caught up with educator and senior director of curriculum for ABC Mouse which is a learning program Dr naika fabiani about how you can have a meaningful conversation with your kids once they get out of school and she suggests that there's a better way than that classic parent question how is your day one way to uh mitigate that is to ask some really targeted questions who' you talk to today what new friends did you make um something physical where did you sit for lunch so that way they're more inclined to answer with detailed responses she says instead of those short answers to well how was your day good it's what always my kids always say she says give them something to brag about and help them get excited about their bragging moments and tomorrow we'll discuss ways to improve your child's homework environment at home with some easy things that you already have around the house to set them up for Success this year so we'll be helping you out with getting them ready I feel like I'm ready right now you do you're ready to go back to what grade would you go back to if you could all of them what I feel like I could do a little bit better really yeah I wasn't a perfect student I love third grade third was my favorite oh yeah okay
