On one man and he's not even on the pitch he's in the dugout at the side and of course I'm
referring to Ilkay Gundogan. A shock move back to the Etihad Stadium complete just a matter of a
few hours ago and the reality is that he is very much back where he belongs. Four titles in a row
that was proof that City are formidable. Five well this bunch are capable of anything.
City make progress down the left with Guardiola across the face of the goal Harlan almost slid in
and Muric got to the ball. City say that might be a penalty Harlan is saying it has to be a penalty
he felt he was fouled the referee didn't get any real view of it we're just looking at the replay
now and Harlan is convinced he should be given a penalty I don't think he's going to get one though
Nicky. No it was I think the defender's got a little bit of his shirt it's fantastic goalkeeping
from Avo Muric to start with it's a great ball in. Harlan into the final third they go Doku won't get
to it it's Rich win it back and they'll clear it through Morsi and now they lose the ball in
midfield and Kovacic guides it back to Diaz on halfway. City with Akanji and Diaz and Guardiola
and Lewis as a nominal back four. De Bruyne comes forward try to play it back to Guardiola it's
cleared up to Omari Hutchinson. Hutchinson drives Ipswich forward takes it into City territory
in the middle third Ipswich Town and they're playing it into the gap and the offside flag is
down and it's a chance for Smodics and it's deflected in and Ipswich score first Sammy Smodics
his first ever Premier League start and he played it under the body of Edison and it hit his back
and rolled over the line and Ipswich Town stunningly have hit the front at the Etihad Stadium
it's Ipswich one City nil. Edison appeared to have saved it but it bounced off his underside
and had enough energy to creep over the line. Well I don't think it'll change the tactics of
the game which were already pre-set but that is a real shock to the system remember the Blues with
a clean sheet last weekend away at Chelsea no clean sheet today. Bernardo Silva loses out
City win it back with Akanji. Akanji now on to Savino. Savino going down the right side
tries to get to the byline oh he's brought down is it in is it outside is it a penalty
it is a penalty no it's a goal kick I thought he'd given the penalty and he's been asked to
go to the monitor. There's enough contact there for me to say it's a penalty yeah he's gonna have
to give it yeah he is yeah it was a penalty all day long the Blues are now looking for an equalizer
Erling Haaland has this record of having scored against every single Premier League opponent he's
faced well he'll want to extend that record today by scoring against Ipswich. Haaland now
steps up and scores easily and City were behind for only a matter of moments yeah normal service
resumed at the Etihad now and I think once the referee had given a penalty there was almost
no doubt that Haaland were going to dispatch it it's uh what we'd expect from City to come
straight back after going one behind we thought be an entertaining match it's going to be oh and
Savino has been oh and it's a goal Savino has just tackled Muric on the edge of the box
Muric had it under control he tried to take on Savino, Savino dispossessed him and De Bruyne
taps it in into an unguarded net great closing down from Savino something they'll have identified
I'm sure in the pre-match build-up uh he's the one who does the damage and he's been influential
in both goals and yeah five minutes after going behind they're in front now absolutely well he
doesn't get an assist for the first goal Savino because he was brought down but he will get an
assist for that one tapped in by Kevin De Bruyne and now they're coming forward again and Haaland
through the middle and he's got beyond Muric 2-1 3-1 2-1 one minute 3-1 the next Erling Haaland's
on another hat-trick and Ipswich Town are absolutely in a spin a wonderful wonderful ball
over the top Haaland on the end over the top of the advancing goalkeeper and City suddenly have
a two-goal advantage hey it's welcome to the Premier League Ipswich isn't it you know the
fans were you for the Tractor boys they were euphoric sort of six or seven minutes ago been
1-0 in front and it soon turned around and now the two goals behind them it's a fantastic finish
it's a great goal from City City were one down they now lead 3-1 on it goes to Guardiola and now
Diaz in central midfield Diaz plays it out wide to Doku, Doku down the left wing but plenty of
work to do in front of him so he plays it back to Guardiola and on it goes to Akanji, Akanji into
Savino, Savino can go both ways that's the danger for a defender plays it back to Akanji, Savino
again he knows he can go outside he knows he can go inside he does do brilliant and then he lost it
just as he was thinking about shooting a feeling for Leif Davis what an afternoon he's got ahead
of him I tell you what he is a different player altogether isn't it there's a number of players
in the Ipswich Town side who made their Premier League debuts last weekend having never played
in the top division Leif Davis is one of the few exceptions having played for Leeds but
the vast majority of this 11 on show today are playing their first ever Premier League away game
not a place to do it home of the defending champions and as Nicky alluded to earlier
they stung the champions by scoring first Doku oh Lewis will score oh he's hit the bar I can't
believe he's missed it it just suddenly came to him in the area he well he had to score he
mishit that it was in the back of the net he hit it too well if that makes any sense Lewis oh he
should have made it 4-1 the ball broke to him by the penalty spot Ipswich all over the place
and he smacked it goal bound but off the underside of the crossbar looked easier to score Nicky
he's absolutely smashed it and it's at the underside of the crossbar where really it
just needed a little clip in the middle of the goal looking up at the heavens he couldn't believe
it it was a gift and City looking for a fourth before we even reached the half hour mark Doku
down the left hand side on one side you've got Savino with their tricks and the dynamic pace
from the standing start on the other you've got Doku much the same here's De Bruyne tries it from
range oh he's got the underside of the bar as well De Bruyne with a dipping shot Juric all he could
do was watch it it hit the underside of the bar bounced on the line and went away yeah it's all
of 28-30 yards out the amount of dip has gone it's phenomenal he's almost up on the ball to
create the dip Juric has stood there didn't move and it's at the underside of the crossbar
oh Juric can't believe he's missed that one wide right position and it goes to Bernardo Silva
that's into the side netting or is it a corner it is it's a corner definitely hit the side netting
I just wondered if it was a mishit cross but it wasn't Savino will whip it in left-footed
caught on at the near but City win it back De Bruyne picks it up on the edge of the area
and Haaland brilliant save that is a stunning save from Juric Haaland header point blank range
and now prepare for one of the biggest roars that you will hear for a player coming on as
it is the second coming of Ilkay Gundogan just listen to the noise welcome home Ilkay
creeps forward plays it across to De Bruyne wide on the right side back it goes to Bernardo Silva
Bernardo Silva into Gundogan back to Bernardo Silva again wider to De Bruyne De Bruyne into
Lewis can't get to it Lewis then wins the second ball dip switch lose it Haaland's got it hits
the shot into the net Erling Haaland hat trick well it was probably a really awkward position
from which to shoot he must have been about 22 meters from goal and he slid it off the inside
of his instep and there is a huge ovation it has been a pretty good afternoon all things considered
a victory a hat trick for Erling Haaland and of course Ilkay Gundogan came on for a cameo
in the second half as well but the final score on the opening home game of the 24-25 season for
the Blues they beat newly promoted Ipswich Town by four goals to one
