Roberto De Zerbi had a five-star performance from his new Marseille side in their season opener
against Brest, winning 5-1 on the road. Reims arrived at the Stade Vélodrome on the back of
a 2-0 defeat to Lille at home. De Zerbi joining after nearly two seasons at Brighton.
Pierre-Emile Heuberg is on loan at Marseille from Tottenham. A Danish midfielder fired a
stinging shot from distance. It was pushed away by Yevhen Diouf in the Reims goal.
The sixth goal of the De Zerbi era came midway through the first half.
Kenta Merlin putting the ball on a plate for Amine Arete. A good side-footed finish from Arete.
Reims have now conceded in all of their last 12 Ligue 1 games away from home.
Arete paying tribute to his teammate Faris Mbanya who ruptured his ACL last week.
After half an hour, Heuberg shot again and somehow Eli Wahi missed the rebound.
A huge opportunity wasted for Marseille. The 21-year-old is a summer signing for Lyon.
He was through again on goal but he couldn't beat Diouf in the 44th minute.
Wahi had scored in the win against Brest last week
and he had an even better chance in the dying seconds of the first half. Mason Greenwood was
in space. He had a blistering shot that was too hot to handle but Wahi's rebound was miraculously
cleared off the line. Diouf getting a hand on the second shot but it was great agility
from the Reims defender Joseph Okumu. It was looking like it just might not be Wahi's day
and Marseille were made to pay for their misses early in the second half.
Sergio Akiyemi rifling an equalizer for Reims. Marseille didn't deal with the corner.
Luis Henrique's clearance only as far as the Spanish fullback and he got his second goal
in his last three Ligue 1 games. The team from the Champagne country then turned this game on its
head. A fizzing run and then finish from Yaya Fafana. The 20-year-old giving Reims a 2-1 lead.
Brilliant pace, skill and trickery. Fafana beating Rulli at the near post.
Things not going to plan for the former Brighton boss Deserbe. John Rowe had come on for Wahi
and he nearly had the perfect start to his Marseille career but his effort rebounded
off the post. Rowe who's only just joined on loan from Norwich. Fullback Merlin kept the ball in
play and after exchanging passes with Luis Henrique had a shot that was spilled right into the path
of Mason Greenwoods. The former Manchester United winger having a great start to his Marseille
career. He becomes the first player to score three goals in his first two Marseille games
since Dimitri Payet back in 2013. And with three minutes to go Merlin could have snatched all three
points for Marseille but his shot was saved by Dieuf. So Roberto Deserbe only manages to get a
point in his first game in charge at the Stade Vélodrome. It finishes Marseille 2, Reims 2.
