HOW DID THIS EVEN HAPPEN?! / ALLOTMENT GARDENING FOR BEGINNERS

[Music] good morning morning everyone happy Friday welcome back to my allotment Garden it's a little bit windy today so we'll do the best that we can with the filming um I have been away from the plot for a few days just really really recovering from this bluming covid that I've had it's really knocked me for six guys yeah I've just really really found it hard to recover from this one but I am feeling like so much better now um for sure this time oh look what's happened to this tree now this tree fell down absolutely ages ago in a storm and it was sort of halfway through the fence and I kept thinking it's going to go it's going to go the second we get another like gust of wind or a little storm or something it's just going to fall and look it literally has it's almost completely gone through a shed that's so bad the thing is of course now that it's actually officially on the allotment and blocking the pathway it's now officially the allotments problem so it's probably going to be one of us that's got to cut this back and stuff I mean that is pretty awful I don't know anyway not my circus not my monkeys cuz I come the other way so there we go um I did get a really nice surprise when I got here this morning I'm very very happy about this so do you remember in my Vlog on Monday I was talking about how a lot of my pumpkins were just rotting and falling off and someone said oh yeah they're not pollinated so they're not there's no pollinators around this year I did mention that before so it's really affected the germination of like the pumpkins and the pollination that's what I mean the pollination of the uh pumpkins but not this one not this one guys and I don't even know what this pumpkin is but my goodness it's getting bigger look at this one look at this one absolute be I'm just put my hand there so you can actually see how much bigger it's got it's looking fantastic yeah it's looking really really good it's like James and the Giant pumpkin this is the only pumpkin I have growing just checking just checking if that's actually the truth did I just make that up no I think I'm actually telling the truth there six pumpkin plants about four of them died then I had like two left and now I've only got one pumpkin growing throughout the entire year that's the worst pumpkin harvest I will ever have officially this year I don't know I don't know there are some flowers in some of them can see some little flowers so maybe possibly we will still have time to get some but this is not clung onto the archway I've really neglected this actually that's our first job let's sort the pumpkins [Music] out it [Music] okay no where are you oh there okay do you want to go this way you want to go this way you can go this way you know what you can go walk bleeding way I tell you to go it's my garden you go this way mate that's it I think I should have go at some self-pollination what do I need do I need a paint brush I think I might have a paintbrush actually let me go see now I can't find a paint brush but I have got a little bit of twine like that which is sort of like a brush I think it's just to get the pollen on it or something so I think what we do I feel like I am messing with Mother Nature now I don't feel like that's ever good that's always the start of a very bad film when I start trying to mess around with things that should not be messed around with you know I think I do that I have any on there oh yeah I've got some on there fantastic right now I need to find another flower and then I think I just put it in the other flower that that's it I think that's pollinated now it's actually be a male and a female there's not actually many flowers on it at all to be honest so I've done the best that I can I think with what I've got I can't even see any male flowers no but that's what I should have done at the beginning I should have self-pollinated them all not relied on the blooming pollinators cuz they are useless this year useless they've just not done their job theyve just not pulled their weight maybe they're on strike [Music] [Music] [Music] oh oh oh [Music] [Music] do you know what guys this sweet pee tee here is actually another really nice surprise look at my gloves by the way the fox got to them cuz I left them outside I look like the burglar in Home Alone it's ridiculous considering the stress that I went through with this all a slugs eating it and then the the vine Weevil thing that like ate all the leaves and stuff anyway I had to start it again like four times but look how absolutely stunning it is I mean you know it's not exactly what I wanted I wanted it to be a lot more full than that lots more color on it and I also wanted like plants around it and stuff but do you know what for what I've been through this year with it I'm really really happy with it so I've just been working up my plotting sections because when I went away on holiday it became a bit overgrown so I'm just choosing little sections and I'm working on it and really weeding it and making it you know back under control that just seems to be working for me right now so I've done the sweet corn bed and the teepee bed so um and also the pathway a little bit I mean this still a few weeds but you know it's looking a lot better and a lot more sort of in control down here now I need to get that like mentality so ridiculous um I need to get that mentality of it being perfect out of my head like I don't want to to be perfect it's never going to be perfect um but I just want it to be under control ready to go into Autumn time so I can sort the plot out for Autumn which is coming guys it's coming and the Autumn Vlogs are coming very soon nice and cozy nice and sort of getting your plot ready for the next year um so that's all all to come all very exciting right so this bit is now weired [Music] oh look how amazing these blueberries have turned out they are just stunning I've got so many I'm going to try one is amazing it's actually amazing Oh Come Back oh my God that so good I literally can't I was going to take some of these home for everyone to try but you know what there're not really enough on the plant anyway so I might as well just have a little snack to be fair I did do all that work so there's more in this one too gosh these plants have just done so well this year the first year that I put them in obviously they are happy together cuz they sort pollenate each other but wow so nice one of my favorite berries blueberries awesome honestly these plants you give them a structure to grow up do they grow up it no she wants to go on the floor what are you doing obviously go this way that's it that's besty you can go up now honestly oh wow look these are almost done [Music] beautiful so these snap peeves have been growing for absolutely ages this one looks like it might almost be ready there's also one over there that looks ready too so let's try one might not quite be ready yet but you know what we're just going to go for it anyway rest of this Vlog is just going to be me going around my lot and eating everything I can now my God is it doing what's your problem be knock me over um it's not quite ready but it is absolutely delicious it's still quite juicy and sweet oh my goodness it's just the best flavor amazing did you want some they are just loving all this new borage that's come up this is all new so I thought the borage was sort of over and I was really sad about it but actually all this has just come up and it's just starting to go into flower now and they are just loving it I was watching Garden as well the other day I don't watch it very much anymore do you guys I just sort of don't find myself drawn to it anymore maybe because I'm just busy doing my own allotment don't know I just don't know um I go through phases of really liking it and then phases of sort of hardly ever watching it but I did watch it the other week and it was an excellent episode and old Monty Don was talking old Monty Don that's so rude Monty Don was um talking about sweet corn being ready and how to tell if it's ready and stuff so I thought I'd check mine so it's all about this on the end the crazy hair so if it's got some of this left so like if it's got green on it it's not ready if the whole thing is brown it is ready so let's see if one of them's cuz that is pretty much all brown that could possibly be ready that one also was almost completely Brown that could also be ready and this one seems to have lost his hair so we'll never know if that one's ever ready this one yeah that's all brown no it feels really small though right let's pick one of them to see I think I think this one here I think we're going to go for it you know quite nervous about this one I don't know why I think cuz I don't have plants left I feel a little bit like there's not much wiggle room for being wrong so we're just going to it sort of just came off right there's only one way of knowing if this is too early o bugs in it and that is to peel it and see I see yellow I see yellow oh God I see yellow going to cry I'm actually going to cry my God I feel really tearful oh God oh my God I'm actually going to cry oh my [Music] God what what what is this did I grow this I can't believe it I actually can't believe it I've never grown I'm more perfect and beautiful sweet corn in my life this is unbelievable I can't believe this exists I can't believe it's mine I'm in actual show I literally don't know what to say I feel quite tearful I feel quite emotional right now I've never been emotional actually that's a lie I've been emotional even loads of my crops but never over a sweet corn before this is amazing I can't believe this it weird that I just want to pick all of them now but I won't I won't I'm going to leave them a little bit longer I cannot believe this I was not expecting this today I I was not expecting it at all this is shocking I can't wait to eat this I can't wait to eat you I'm going to be so happy when I eat you oh my god flipping s on what is it okay if I just like jump up and down a little bit is there anybody here I just feel so emotional I just need to like okay I feel a bit better now I'm walking around with it like it's a trophy like I've won something um I have one of sweet corn yeah I just needed to get like my wiggles out or something I don't know just felt so emotional then I was literally overcome I thought I was going to cry I was like so I I can't cry over a sweet corn can I is that okay is that loud um yeah that's amazing that's the best thing I've ever picked this year this is the year of the sweet corn I can feel it I I actually have more sweet corn growing over here which again is actually doing really well I didn't think anything of it listen to how fast I'm talking I'm like I didn't think anything of it but actually now I'm very excited about it now this is Swift swift F1 I have grown it a few times but it's never done this well and um the cobs are a little bit smaller it's like a smaller variety of sweet corn but again these look sort of done don't they that's all should we pick another one feel like I'm on a bit of a roll now feel very excited a bit nervous about this one nice it's just come off straight away that's a really good sign oh my goodness what is that bug in there it's an earwig oh there's a gigantic earwig in there okay we've got a problem we got a problem there is an earwig in this one I know they do like sweet corn oh God look at it it's so horrible how do I um oh God it's hidden in that one now oh God can you see it it's like I can see it it's there what's the best way of dealing with this situation no not that all right this is not a very nice position that I find myself in but I feel like we just need to persevere this is like an evil game of past the parcel where I know there's a bug in there there's a bug in there oh God it's really [Applause] scary please don't jump out of me little earwig please please I'm begging you begging you don't know where he is now oh it's not quite ready oh no went through all that trauma okay some of it's all right let's pull it out in case the earwigs there all right some of it is okay it's not as good as the other one not as good as the other one but it's a um yeah okay so they need a little bit longer but you know where is earwig it's gone must have just left good good decision earwig I reckon I could probably still eat that maybe not the whole thing but I reckon I could cook it and then get some of those off so I'm really happy with that right last thing to harvest today is potatoes I think do I need more potatoes yeah I always need more potatoes or should I do the beach rout what should we do potatoes looking really sad now really sad oh let me just show you this here this is potato fruit I've never had a potato fruit before this is poisonous you can't eat this but um it does this sometimes this is the fruit of a potato and I'm guessing that has seeds in maybe and then that's how you get potato I don't know to be honest but just talking rubbish now yeah it's poisonous you can't eat it but it's just interesting I've never seen it sort of fruit before let's do some potatoes always got to do some potatoes when we come down he looking very done now so there we are look at those absolutely stunning absolutely love oh look at that it's an absolute Whooper flipping EG that will feed us for a week that one's even bigger it's amazing good I just love potatoes I just love growing them I love eating them I love looking at them um there we go little pile of potatoes to take home today very lovely you know what let's just do a beet rout as well let's just do it it's like I'm going shopping in my own garden isn't it I absolutely love it I absolutely love it this one's not very good unfortunately that one has been eaten by woodlice so that's not very good that one so right Beach root time there's a nice little one there very nice it's got you as well have two little ones that' be enough there we go got two little dinky ones for a nice salad or something I reckon they'll taste nice um the smaller that veg are the nicer they seem to taste for some reason I think and I could be completely off the Mark here but I think it's something to do with when they get really big they get quite Woody um and quite thick and stuff and when you eat them they don't have as much flavor so when they're little they do tend to taste better so that's just a fact I don't know why it's fat but it's just a fact so we got quite a good harvest let's actually gather it all together and I'll show you what we've Harvest today there we go that's our little garden Harvest today we got some beautiful giant potatoes I think these are main crop ones aren't they got a couple of little beach roots and we got some corn on a cob um and the only thing that I didn't actually you get to take home as the blueberries cuz I ate them and also a couple of Snapp peas because I ate those as well but technically we harvested those as well so it's been a really good day for harvesting I think I'm going to have a lot more to harvest over the next couple of weeks I have to just keep picking I think keep picking anyway I hope you enjoyed the Vlog today if you did do subscribe to my YouTube channel I
