Following the Yellow Brick Road in Search of the Wizard of Oz

foreign [Music] to do the skip down the yellow brick road I'm not gonna sing we're off to see the wizard though I know we'll get in trouble but this is uh I like how they've done this and they've got pretty cool isn't it yeah and then on the ground here they've got people I guess that help donate to put this together so that's really neat I know the old paintings now these paintings kind of look like they've come out of the original book yeah yeah like the Ambiance of the uh the lights as well then this must be the Emerald City yeah with the poppy fields I got a fun fact about this did you know that it took 22 men one week to make 40 000 poppies for the poppy field true story and then the hot air balloon that crash landed the wizard [Music] [Music] [Music] okay you ready yep you ready to enter the Land of Oz I've been waiting for this let's go first thing of Dorothy Toto leaving Kansas well now you know the story of them don't you yeah I haven't seen it since I was about this big though so so you remember the story The reason why Dorothy was leaving because the dog bit somebody because she didn't want the dog to get into trouble [Music] this is really well done yeah and the ruby slippers yeah I remember when the house did fall onto the witch I remember everybody remembers that now do you know that the ruby slippers in the original book were actually silver not not red and the reason why they changed them to Red was because the Technicolor would show the red up better on the yellow brick road yeah wow look at all the original books and because this book the book was um originally what was written in 1900 yeah and then of course the first character she meets is the Scarecrow who doesn't have a brain it's kind of amazing how lifelike that looks it almost you're expecting to like jump up don't you look at his eyes yeah I said that's just beautiful very well done [Music] the second character Dorothy Mates is the Tin Man who hasn't got a heart third character Dorothy Mates is the lion now did you know that it took over two hours to do the makeup for The Lion and the Lion's outfit was actually made of pelts of real lion skin and Wade I think it was about 60 pounds now that's heavy Haunted Forest in witch's castle Yeah [Music] too dark there's the winch [Music] he's the Wicked Witch of the West which is pretty scary yeah and then of course you've got Glinda the Good Witch now she was played by Billy Burke and if you remember we actually went to the for the want of a better word yeah um where she ended up and she also stayed there I think around the same time as Marilyn Monroe's mother yeah he wrote a book about it and here's the poppy field pretty impressive can you imagine all those hours it did take those men to do the 40 000 poppies for the film yeah that's amazing now it's all just computer generated but then they made everything [Music] we get in the bath this is how the wizard ended up in the land of Oz really yep I'm gonna have to watch the movie again it's really good did you know that it's the number one movie watched of all time and did you also know that the song Over the Rainbow was actually taken out of the movies three times because they thought it was too slow glad they kept it in because it's ended up being the number one movie song in the whole of movie history yeah and story yeah and so beautifully some did you also know that Judy Garland wasn't close choice of playing Dorothy it was actually Shirley Temple but Shirley Temple's voice wasn't strong enough yeah amazing [Music] [Music] thank you [Music] foreign [Music] foreign
