Elise Mertens vs. Marta Kostyuk | 2024 Cincinnati Round 1 | WTA Match Highlights

She has been, she won 21 matches so far and for Kostuk who is having an incredible year. It's been 24 matches, not a big of a difference. Well dealt with. Great serve to start with from Mertens. Really strong body serve. What a point! First the angle from Marta and then... Oh beautiful! She finds the way. Set points. Right at the last. The break does come. And it's Marta Kostuk who makes her move in this opening round. First set in the bag and she takes it by six games to four. Big reaction. Pumps the fists. And it is a third set we need here. 6-2 second set. All over it there. Becoming the same intensity match as they played in Australia. Not by quality maybe but by mental strength for sure. Makes this one. Carefully watched. And it's the match for Marta Kostuk. And for the second time this season she gets the better of Elise Mertens in a tight three-setter at the Australian Open. She did just that and on this occasion here in Mason, Ohio. It is Kostuk moving on.
