Hey there, I'm Chef Ani, and today I'm joined with my mama, and we're making a fun recipe
today, aren't we mama?
Yes, we are, and an essential one.
Yes.
This is vegan gravy, and what an amazing recipe.
I mean, this is a delicious one.
Yes, and this is beautiful and wonderful enough for a holiday meal.
It is, it just has all the comforting feel and flavor of a really good gravy.
Gravy can make or break a dish, if you ask me.
Absolutely.
I mean, think about it, eating without any gravy on mashed potatoes or the roast, you'd
miss it.
You'd miss it, right?
You'd really miss it.
Yeah, especially this one, because it has so much flavor, the texture is really beautiful.
This is a family favorite recipe, isn't it mama?
Yes, it is.
And let's make it right now.
So enough talking, let's get cooking.
So we're going to get started by adding water to a pot, along with some fresh mushrooms,
carrots, a little bit of potato and onion, and some garlic.
Next we'll add in some cashews, which really give a creamy consistency to this gravy.
Also some nutritional yeast flakes, and better than bouillon, and some salt.
Then we'll cover it and bring it to a boil, and then simmer for a few minutes until the
vegetables are tender.
Next we'll pour it into a blender and blend it until smooth.
Now we like to toast a little bit of flour on the stove and add it into this gravy.
And this really adds to the flavor and consistency of this gravy.
But this step is optional if you want a gluten-free gravy.
Return it to the pot, and this is the time to bring it up to a simmer, and you can adjust
the flavor and consistency.
I like to add a little bit of oil at the end.
It just helps to finish off this gravy, but it is an optional step.
And there you have it.
Look at that amazing gravy that you can pour over so many amazing dishes.
Like it would go so well with the vegan roast that we made a couple weeks back.
It's perfect for that.
It will really elevate the vegan roast, mashed potatoes, whatever, your holiday meal.
It really finishes off the dish beautifully.
Yes.
