Can you spend a day in Oslo with just £20?
Oslo is the capital city of Norway and it's one of the most expensive places in the world.
Can we find enough budget-friendly things to do in Oslo to fill a day here without breaking the bank?
So this morning we've come down to a place called Harold's Waffle for breakfast
and they do traditional Norwegian waffles here which are different from the Belgian waffles.
They're a lot thinner and they're actually heart-shaped and on top of our waffle we've
got some brown cheese which is also very traditional here and it turns brown
apparently from the caramelizing of the sugar during the process of making the cheese and
we've also got some whipped cream. It's quite nice actually.
This waffle costs 59 Norwegian kroner and you could get up to three toppings on it for that price.
Instead of buying a drink we are filling up our water bottle at this water fountain
completely for free. Unfortunately you have to pay to use the toilet and this cost us 10 kroner.
We've just come down to Oslo's waterfront and over there you can see the iconic opera house
and you can walk on the roof of this opera house for free so we're gonna go and walk up
and have a look at what the view is like from up there.
This place is so bright the sun is reflecting off all these shiny white surfaces and we can hardly see a thing.
Watching an opera isn't our cup of tea but if you do want to watch a performance in the opera house
good tickets can be expensive. However if you don't mind having an obstructed view you can
get standing and listening tickets for most performances for 100 kroner which is only £8.40.
We're just having a look around Akerhus Fort which seems to be free to walk around
and another benefit of coming to this fort is that there is a free toilet here as well.
For lunch we went to 7-Eleven and we got a taquito and this was 19.50 kroners which is
not sure the exact version but it's less than two pounds. We've just walked 40 minutes across Oslo
and now we're at a park called Vigeland Sculpture Park and all the sculptures here have been made
by one artist a guy called Gustav Vigeland and it's actually the biggest collection in the world
of sculptures by all just one artist. It's quite interesting so we're going to go now and have a
look around but this park is free to come to free to see all the sculptures so it's not adding any
cost to our day. So we've walked around the sculpture park there's quite a lot to see here
it's quite big and there's lots of different sculptures but now we're going to head back down
towards the city centre and there's a palace I think on our route back so we might stop off there
but I don't think we're going to have a huge amount of daylight left so that's probably going
to be the last thing that we'll be able to do in the daylight. We've just stopped off at this palace
it's quite nice there's lots of big grounds and stuff that you can walk around it's free to do that
down here is a nice view down towards the city centre unfortunately it's blocked off at the
moment but we have actually been here before and I do remember it being quite nice. Now we're going
to head back into the centre of Oslo and we're going to go and see what we can get for dinner.
We've walked everywhere today in Oslo if you don't want to walk around you can use the buses
and the trams they have both here but they're quite expensive.
Our final stop today in Oslo is to Freddy Frego for a burrito that's quite good I'm a big fan of
burritos so this was an easy way to please me we both got the vegetarian one which is a roasted
sweet potatoes with rice, beans, peppers, salsa, cheese, sour cream and yeah it's pretty good
good burrito. This cost 135 kroners which brings our total to 223 kroners and 50 whatever they're
called and that is equal to £19 and 14p so that was a day in Oslo for under £20. One last thing
to mention is that we did park here in Oslo all day today and it was actually free for us today
because it is a Sunday if we had come in the week it would actually have been really expensive and
we'd have probably spent our entire £20 just on parking.
