Pacific White-Sided Dolphins, scientifically known as Lagenorhynchus obliquidens, are captivating marine mammals found in the Pacific Ocean. With their sleek bodies and distinctive black, white, and gray coloration, they are easily recognizable. These dolphins are known for their acrobatic displays, often leaping, somersaulting, and riding the waves with remarkable agility. They are highly social animals, living in tight-knit pods and forming strong bonds with their fellow pod members. Pacific White-Sided Dolphins have a diverse diet, feeding on fish, squid, and other marine organisms. Their playful nature and synchronized swimming make them a delight to observe in their natural habitat. However, like many marine species, they face threats such as habitat degradation and pollution. We don't see them often here in Santa Barbara, but encountering them on our maiden voyage sent great omens for the future of Santa Barbara Whale Watch!
