Solving Multi-Step Equations

welcome to Mumu Math and Science in this video let's go over how to solve multi-step equations okay so let's go ahead and begin solving this multi-step equation and what we're going to do is we're going to distribute if we have parentheses and then we're going to combine like terms we're going to move variables to the left constants to the right so let's get started okay there are no parentheses so we will not distribute but we can combine some like terms we have 10x and -4x and so when you subtract 10 x - 4x that will give you 6 x - 15 equals and over here we can combine 8 and -15 so that will be 2X and 15 + 8 a -5 + 8 gives you A7 so now we can move to the next step and the next step is to move variables to the right so in order to do that this is actually a NE -2X we're going to add 2x to both sides okay so when we do on the right side these cancel so you're left with -7 equals and then 6X + 2x is 8 x - 15 now we're going to move constants to the right so we're going to add 15 on both sides and so when you have a positive 15 and -7 that gives you 8 equals and over here these cancel that gives you 8 x and then we're going to divide through by8 on both sides so X = 1 so now let's check our work okay so now let's check our work and what we will do is we will plug in our answer of one anywhere there is an X so we have 10 * 1 which is 10 - 15 - 4 * 1 is 4 = 8 - 2 * 1 is 2 - 15 so again what we did we just plugged in a one which was our solution anywhere there was an X now we just combine like terms and so that gives us 10 - 15 is a -5 - 4 is a -9 equals and then we have on this side we have 8 - 2 which is a postive 6 uh and then we have A5 -5 - 6 = 9 so9 = 9 so in summary to solve multistep equations we're going to distribute if we have parentheses combine like terms if we can we're going to move variables to the left and constants to the right thanks for watching and remember kindness mult implies kindness be kind to someone today
