The Chinese Communist regime has intensified its suppression of what it terms “fan culture,” a phenomenon associated with the fervent and, sometimes, obsessive behavior of fans toward celebrities. This latest wave of repression saw the arrest of a 29-year-old woman, Ms. He, in Beijing on Tuesday. Authorities are accusing her of defaming a prominent Chinese table tennis player and coaches during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
