Good morning you guys here from Lisbon here in Portugal. Today we're super
excited to show you guys this beautiful port city.
Lisbon is one of the oldest cities in the world and the second oldest
European capital behind Athens. When doing research on this city we
noticed there are a ton of things to see and do
but today we're going to squeeze in as many top sites as possible and of course
eat a ton of delicious seafood. Our first stop of the day
here is at Bellum Tower. It was built in the 16th century.
It is such a beautiful setting. It sits right on the water and then you can see
the mountains in the background. So are those the mountains you were
talking about? I guess they're more like hills. I was trying to describe it.
They looked a lot bigger from back there. Mountains, wow.
It's just the grassy knolls over there. There are so
so many people here. We're here right at 10 a.m.
I don't think we're going to go in because the queue was already
a mile long before this place even opened but it's a beautiful setting and
there's a park right behind it so the weather is beautiful today and
we're just sitting here by the water and kind of like people watching to
start our day. We were just
walking from the tower to the pastry shop and we walked by this
beautiful monastery. It is massive. I believe it's built in like
a Portuguese Gothic style of architecture.
Anyway, the line to get in is absolutely massive. It's actually wrapped
around the building. That is crazy to me.
Okay, so we just went and picked up our pastries.
These are pastéis de Belém. So they are the original
famous Portuguese tart. So what makes these
so special is that this is the original recipe that was created in 1837
by the monks that were in the monastery that we just walked by
and this recipe is a secret and this bakery is the only
bakery in Portugal that can call these pastéis de Belém.
I think pastéis is plural and pastel de Belém
is singular but they look so flaky and good
and Tommy and I have been eating pastel de nata
pretty much every day that we've been here in Portugal so I'm and we love them
so I'm curious to see how the best and the original
taste. Already it's just like so incredibly flaky and good and my
fingers are like definitely a little bit oilier than they
usually are so let's see.
That's a good one. The crust is so flaky and buttery.
The custard on the inside is a little bit thicker
than the really really incredible one we had in Porto.
It's very good. The flavor is good but it's a little bit thicker which I think
I might prefer that one. It's incredible though. That was a
perfect little appetizer. Such a beautiful park. We're sitting in
We're heading to get some more food next. We're heading to a local market to
hopefully try some seafood. So if you're watching this video and
you're following it for like an itinerary of like best 24 hours in
Lisbon what Tommy and I did was we took the
train because we're staying in the center of Lisbon.
We took the train down to the tower and then we walked back and got the
pastries and then we took an Uber up to our next spot which is the market
just because that logistically made the most sense like time wise and we got
to ride the tram and the train and everything like that so logistically if
you're wondering how to do it that was what we did. There's a few
different markets that you can come to here in Lisbon. There's like the one
right on the waterfront. I believe it's called
Time Out Market. Tommy and I decided to come to this one that's called
Ricardo de Campo. Sorry I need to walk over here so I can see the rest of the
sign. Ricardo de Campo de Oric. Anyway I read
online that this one was a little bit less touristic.
It still has some food stalls and so we decided this was the one we were going
to come check out and there is nobody around. Lisbon is full
of people so whenever you can take the opportunity to go somewhere where
there are not a ton of people it's always a good thing. So that market
didn't quite work out. It wasn't what I was expecting. A lot of international
cuisines and I wanted seafood, octopus especially. I read online that
the food was amazing and that they had like seafood there. I didn't realize it
was raw seafood so that was my bad. So we're going to go to the Time Out
Market because I know for a fact that they have
seafood there and traditional Portuguese dishes and
that's what we want to try and we're tourists so we're gonna go where all the
other tourists go.
So we made it on the famous tram here. It's pretty crowded. We had to wait like
20 minutes to get on and it was just over six euros for the both of us
for a 20-minute ride in the main square here.
So the tram got a little too busy and crowded so we had to get off early.
We have not talked about the hills here in Lisbon. Like everywhere you go it's
either up or down a steep hill which gives great views of the ocean
though from like all the side streets. Blue tile everywhere you look. Today
turned out to be a little bit chillier than I thought it was going to be.
I wore like this skirt and the sun is out but the wind
is chilly. All these alleyways and roads are so beautiful. All the buildings are
different colors with either the paint or the tiles.
Such a beautiful place.
Tommy found this little kiosk on google maps so it's literally just like a red
little kiosk but they have, well we came here for their Solana de
Fulvo but they don't have octopus yet but the gal working suggested that we
order cod fish salad and the sandwich fried
squid. So we got one of each to share with a
glass of white wine. Can you believe the setting behind you
though? Look at the church and the fountain.
Only in Europe you find just little kiosks like this
and sit and enjoy. You have a good view there.
So this is the cod salad. It looks fabulous.
It's a traditional Portuguese dish. It's cod
with garlic, herbs, onion and olive oil. Looks so good.
Oh yummy that looks amazing. Thank you.
I put the biggest fight on my bread you guys. I'm so hungry.
I know the video goes fast but it's been a couple hours since
we ate that best salad. That peste de nata.
I almost blew on it. The wine's going to my head. I've had like two sips. That's
a great flavor combination. The herbs with the fish and the olive oil
on bread.
Okay our second dish we have the legendary fried squid
sandwich. I read so many amazing views about this sandwich.
The bread looks like super homemade crispy. I can't wait.
That is perfection. I love their little spicy aioli sauce.
It's been so long since we've had such fresh seafood.
Another great thing about being here in Europe is
you have to drink a coffee after every meal here. No question you have to do it
right. So please tell me the difference. In
Porto it was called a pingo and here in Lisbon it's called a pingado.
I think they're the same thing. Please let me know in the comments.
Wow what an amazing meal. They are small plates which are perfect just for like a
little snack. We're about to go eat some more food
though right now we're heading to the market nearby.
Both those dishes were only six euros and 50 cents each which is
such a great deal. We finally made it inside the market. This place is super
packed. There are so many people enjoying lunch here.
So many different choices of restaurant. I still want to try the octopus salads.
Hopefully we can find some place that serves that.
So we ordered the Portuguese sampler tray. It comes with five traditional
Portuguese snacks. This place is packed you guys. We couldn't
even find a seat. This sweet lady at this bar was like oh you can just stand here
and eat your food. So that's what we're gonna do and we
ordered two glasses of wine. All of this was 32 euros. We have a few
different things to try. We have like the traditional bacon sandwich.
We have octopus salad which we've been wanting to try.
Finally. I know we've been like looking for that for so long.
Then we have some mussels and a tomato sauce and then I think another
cod fish salad with chickpeas. Oh yeah and some traditional like jamon and
cheeses as well. I want to go for the octopus salad just
because we've been wanting to try it for so long.
Yum. So the octopus is worth the wait. It is so delicious. It is not chewy
whatsoever. You can tell it's super fresh. These mussels are where it's at. I love
the little tomato sauce mixture and they're served cold which is
different but very good. Also the jamon and cheese. You can
never go wrong with me. It's one of my favorite dishes ever.
The cheese is so sharp. A little spicy too.
I'm officially so full. We have eaten so much food
and the next spot, spots I guess, that Tommy and I want to go to
will maybe clear or help with our digestion just a little bit.
So Portugal is known for this like liqueur,
like a cherry liqueur. I think it's called like gin gin.
Tommy and I both picked out a spot. Tommy can tell you about the spot that he
picked out. But anyway we're gonna walk to the
spots and try a local Portuguese liqueur.
We came to this place because they serve the cherry liqueur, the gin gin,
in a chocolate shot glass. Look how great this is. She said don't
eat the shot glass though. Cheers!
That is so good. So it's just like a sweet cherry liqueur. Good right?
So now we're allowed to eat the shot glass.
Cheers!
So good. I feel like it's a fun little touch with the chocolate cup.
And it's like you get two for the price of one. It's the perfect combination.
The cherry chocolate. It reminds me of those like little christmas cherries
that you get.
So we just made it to one of the main squares here in Lisbon. Look how
beautiful you guys. The purple trees are my favorite. Oh
they're so pretty. I dropped liqueur on my sweater.
Dois is a masculine word. Because this was correct. Dois.
This one is dois. It's a feminine word.
Now we're at my place for the gin... Ginna? Gin-gin-ha.
Gin-gin-ha. Anyway the guy here was super sweet. The reason I chose this
place. It's been in the family for over five generations and it was built in the
1840s which is crazy. They must be doing something right.
Lots of details. The other place had chocolate which was really good.
But this is better. The original. It's better. It tastes better too. It does.
And this one. This one has cherries. Did you eat one of your cherries already?
Both of them.
Lots of spilt drinks here. You can tell.
It's kind of sticky in here. Keep customers inside.
Check how massive this cathedral is. This is Lisbon Cathedral.
So huge. Cost five euros to go inside. Looks like there's three different
levels. Great place to hang out though. Get
pictures. There's trams going by and great people watching.
So we're heading up to the last stop of the day. The castle. But on the way up
going up all these hills you have these amazing views of the entire ocean up here.
Check this out.
That is our last stop today.
So we just got in the castle. It was 16 euros a person to get in.
The views up here look amazing. The top tip as you're entering in
there's a huge line. If you go past the line on the left enter the tickets
office and there's two machines on the left
that nobody was using. So I just went in put my card in
and you can get tickets there and avoid the entire line.
Such amazing views right? I know. I think, I mean we didn't pay for too many
entrance fees today, but I think if you're gonna pay for one
the 15 euro charge for the castle is definitely worth it. You're getting
the best views over Lisbon. You can see the bridge, the river,
like all of the red roofs, pretty much the entire city.
I think, I think it's worth the entrance fee don't you? I feel like that's rare for
me to be like oh I'm glad we paid that.
What a special place to end our time here in Lisbon. This castle is so
humongous. It's so cool too. There's so many walkways to get views
all over this city. What a great day here in Lisbon. The food especially stood out.
Not enough time though. Hopefully we'll be back. Thank you guys for watching.
Appreciate you guys like always. Love you guys. Have a good day.
