In this tutorial, we cover the proper technique behind the double handed backhand.

Make sure you have the correct grip. That is a chopper grip with your dominant hand, and then an eastern grip with your top hand.

Make sure that you have a proper unit turn by rotating your hips and shoulders into your power position, and then make sure that at the end of your takeback, you have your hands by your hips, and your racket head above the grip (at around 45 degrees). Imagine leaning in, and pressing your front shoulder against a wall to help shift more weight through the shot.

To hit a proper double hander, ensure that you are utilising the top hand effectively. The top hand does most of the work and where a lot of the power comes from.

Do not drag the swing across your body before fully extending through the shot.

Finish by fully uncoiling the hips into the shot, and finishing square to the net. In this position, your front elbow should be facing towards 1 o’clock, and your left elbow facing towards 3 o’clock.
