Ep, 1 - What is Van Life really like... A Day In The Life

Morning guys The vans a bit of a mess. We both just took some nice showers Yeah, so we got a way to do some chores and straighten up and but I'm cooking breakfast and So we got some sausage some potatoes, I've got some cheese and eggs going in so it'll be a nice Scramble got some onions salt pepper garlic. That's gonna be tasty And this is where we slept last night just wanted to show you guys our view Pretty good. I haven't even opened up the van yet. That's to come but Yeah, so today We're gonna hang out get a few chores done, but mostly just hang out so What's van life really like? You know, honestly guys Every day is not Doesn't have But every day, you know, we get up we have a nice breakfast we shower My little baby goats going but and not every day do the kitties get a walk What are you going baby, it's not every day that the kitties go for a walk But there is a lot of times that they do So they're seeing some of the most beautiful spots in the world Gee, who's never been a lap kitty will actually hop on our lap as we're driving down the road to look out the window with us but We're gonna take you along with us today We've got a couple chores to do We've just showered so we got to get the van clean we're going to And get the trash taken out We got to go to a dump station and fill the water Yeah today. We'll show you What van life's really like? So as you can see today has to be garbage day. We just did some cleaning of the van Yeah, and so today we're gonna take them along in a day in the life of van life and show them what van life's all about Yeah, I knew you guys didn't want to see that that's why I told you all about it But we'll show you a couple things, but don't worry. We still have some chores left to do We got to empty the gray water tank and fill the water and do some other stuff So you guys will definitely get a look. Oh, it looks like we have a fellow sprinter pulling up Is that your cooker in there yeah, it's just an old Coleman stuff somebody gave us okay Okay So how much gray and how much fresh So do you guys mostly boondock and stealth or do you guys mostly campground it Yeah, yeah, yeah Oh cool Yeah I'm filming by the this. Okay, is that okay? Okay We did we did three weeks in Park City I love Park City So Tahoe is one of those favorite places, yeah So that's what you guys do Pat said that's it Okay, oh sweet that is nice Just you guys know it's not every day that we get to boondock in a place like this, but last night we did and so Maybe don't think this is what van life is always like But maybe so far in our journey 80% of the time Now I have to admit this coast is probably one of the most beautiful coast we've ever seen But we've had a few nights right here on the Pacific Ocean, so Anyway, we're gonna go do some chores and we'll film that so you guys can see what it's like living in a van Catching crabs right there They are We had to get a little license we got to see if we can do that that'd be fun Can we do that today? We need to check it out. He's making his bed So a day in our life We have a great bathroom in our setup. But if we ever find a nice clean public restroom, we use it Makes our composting toilet material last a little longer. Yeah, Kurt's giving a van tour in there Which is also not uncommon But we're right here on the water So day in the life and so you've had you how long have you been in this? 23 years you've been living in this van not full-time. Most of the time. Okay It's my primary residence, but I do a lot of house-sitting Sitting I'm in here and I'm on the road four or five months a year Yeah, and the van I had before this was a 66 Chevy I had for 18 years Wow that I Lived out of and traveled out Wow, and then before that one I had a West Valley So you were doing van life before van life was cool. I got my first 1973 Wow 61 Ford Econoline most of Millennials who are watching this weren't even born then probably not Well, none of the Millennials were Geezers like me around who've been doing it for a while what I do Like if it's morning time I get out I bust out my little Impromptu kind of portable setup table Okay Just an old box and in the morning Oh Look at there you got the little kettle. Yeah. Yeah, and then here's where I keep my stove my one burner stove that I've had for many years White gas stove That works really good And the first thing I do Is I pour some water in here Yeah Get that water hot and I pour it into my coffee And then I keep my coffee cup nice and hot and then I make my coffee Then when my coffee's done I'll heat up my milk. Oh Look at there. You're making lattes. Yes, it's latte and this little stove top express and makes incredible coffee They get that day, there's there's the remnants from this morning Wow See, you're a coffee connoisseur. It's like five ounces of water and about eight healthy tipi heaping tablespoons of coffee Finely ground I grind it myself. I got my own grinder Wow So yeah Look at that. Yeah, you're a coffee connoisseur and then when the milk's hot I get my Preheated coffee pot my cup out now, is that you're actually coffee copper. That's just you're what you make it out of Real there and then I get my coffee Worst-case scenario is you have to urinate and I keep a little jug jug. Yeah, right it back in here Which gets washed out daily. Yeah hot soap and water and discarded once every couple weeks and I get a fresh one up here, oh Oh, you have like a little a bucket toilet. So this this is my My chest of drawers I call it. It's my clothing and it's just organic Boxes fruit boxes from like Costco or something. Yeah, and they stack five high And they have these interlocking devices so they've never tipped over on me and I've got a couple more here nice storage and it's clothing and over here is The five-gallon porta potty. Yeah only used in extreme emergencies So to answer your question about there you go when and where I use public facilities It's mostly outside, okay. Yeah, I have no black tank storage for it. Yeah. Yep Cool and fresh water. I keep here. Oh, look at that I usually keep three gallons and part of that is helping keep the lid on the cooler nice and tight. So So far days not going as planned So we planned on walking the kitties getting up and going and Uploading our next video. So that was our plan for this morning. And so in any event We've done two van tours Yeah, we uh, we met some people Van lifers a super cool couple. They have a super cool van We showed each other the vans and then we came down to this area looking for a restroom Waterfill and gray water dump and all that stuff And it's this beautiful marina and a guy walks up and he wants a van tour Snow walked around there's a bunch of cool sculptures around here. So she walked around To check that out and it turns out they're crabbing right out there So then I did more walking around while Kurt was doing the van tour and we can rent a crab pot basket For either eight or twelve dollars depending on which one and for out-of-staters We can get a three-day shellfish license for $12 So Kurt's like let's do it because Kurt loves that stuff. But then I had to remind him that today was chore day So it's here it is. It's almost noon We've had a lot of fun Make the bed clean the kitchen a little bit and sweep out the floors and we got rid of the trash Yeah, we have done some chores throughout the day But so we we need to go find a coffee shop to upload the videos Yeah, but I think we're gonna come back here So I hope you're getting kind of a sense of a day what a day is like in van life. This is So anyway, we're gonna continue to share with you our day and We hope to have this video up pretty soon as well So you're gonna see this in more real time than you see most of our other videos. Please. Oh and then Hopefully tomorrow if we get all our chores done, we're gonna maybe try to catch some crabs So we're doing a day in the life and I should have been filming the last three minutes Because it's typical when we're trying to park the van We're a little bigger than a normal car we can fit into a normal spot but So right where that car just pulled in Yeah, so but it goes over there we're on the backside of the coffee shop Okay, just wanted to give you a little taste of it we've been around the whole block it's a pretty block Now we're gonna go So we had to come upload the video So we had to find a little coffee shop and then find a parking but we got a nice parking place The coffee shops right there But again, it's pretty easy to get distracted. And so here's more that that art and this art Was made by stuff by trash that was picked up on this on the ocean on the beach And so here's a pretty cool fish And you can see all the the rubbish and then here is a sea turtle Riding away And so again, these were all made from trash washed up on the beach but I'm gonna get in trouble because we need to get some work done and go upload a video So back to work So just checking the YouTube stats We're doing a little Business snows doing a little work a little banking a little this a little that and we made it this nice little coffee shop So snow's doing a little work today. So what are you doing snow? There you go We also just updated our red mini page on our website because there's a referral code there that can save you 50 bucks if you buy a bite So we're just taking care of some business today, we're just like we're getting it done It didn't look like we were gonna get it done first thing this morning, but now we were cranking it out We also took care of health insurance credit cards and a bunch of other stuff. So if you guys are interested in that let us know This coffee shop has been great Just you guys know in terms of a day in the life of van life We really don't work this much every day. So it's not typical But it is stuff that we have to do on a regular basis. Just not every day We're back at the marina that we started out earlier in the day at before we may have to go to our work Kurt's gonna make a sandwich Then checking on the crab fishing Let's see how this goes Oh, we're catching a crab. Well, see if you catch one big enough to keep What are you using for Baker Thanks to the bottom I'm gonna be myself or I could be someone else. No one's stopping me now I'm gonna skip my brains. I'm gonna make mistake. I just wanna feel It's just what I do when I'm out so I'm gonna drive a faster car. Nothing can break me. No, no, nothing can break me Nothing can break me. Oh, no, nothing can break me Cars I want to drive a faster car. I'm gonna be it's time to make the doughnuts again guys Got to pull another trap, but this one right here is from a boy down a boat of Scotty little kettlebell exercise right here Scotty Bunch of little ones a day in the life snowing Kurt On our new van journey continues. We might be able to check out another cool sunset right here. Yeah Yeah We're still only catching baby crabs They're cute when we throw them back No big ones yet, but it doesn't even matter. Well, we have that little seal or whatever it is. Yeah There's a seal out here playing for us So there's a seal. I don't know if you guys can see that Right there He went away but we still have that so it's another good day guys Take my hand Our day is coming to an end We're still on the dock watching the sunset the seals the birds I'm trying to catch some crab We haven't given up But you'll probably have to watch one of our weekly videos to see if we caught it because this is just the day One day in our life.
