Hey, credit warriors, welcome to the show.
And in this video, I'm going to go through five credit cards that, in my opinion,
are the five best credit cards out there on the U.S. market right now.
Most of these cards either came out or were revamped in the past few years
and caused quite a frenzy.
And these are cards that I think the average person will get value out of,
not just hardcore credit card enthusiasts.
So without further ado, let's get into it.
These are the best five credit cards on the U.S. market right now.
And this video is brought to you by Silo.
But more on that later.
Number one, the Amex Gold.
All right. How could we not cover the Amex Gold?
It's just been revamped and there is a new limited time white gold design.
But the real selling point of this card is that it earns four X Amex points
per dollar on dining and U.S. supermarkets.
Now, there is a spending cap on this.
It's twenty five thousand on supermarkets and fifty thousand on dining
that you can earn those bonus points on.
But that's still really high.
I spend about six thousand dollars a year at restaurants
and about eight thousand a year in supermarkets.
And generally I earn around fifty to sixty thousand points
from those two categories.
That's enough for a one way business class flight to Europe.
So those bonus categories are the massive selling points of this card for me.
But what about the annual fee and other benefits that offset that fee?
Well, the annual fee is now three hundred and twenty five.
It was just raised up from two fifty.
But there are four hundred and twenty four dollars worth of credits.
The resi credit, the uber cash, the dunking credit and the dining credit.
So if you use all of those, you end up with American Express
paying you ninety nine dollars a year to hold the car.
If you want to see a full breakdown of how this works,
you can check out this video on my channel.
That's what it looks like.
And I'll put it on the end screen of this video you're watching now.
For new and current card members, you now have the option of the white gold design.
And for brand new card members, there is a targeted ninety thousand point
offer plus 20 percent back on dining up to one hundred dollars.
And if you're really lucky, there's also a one hundred thousand point
offer plus the 20 percent back on dining that you might get targeted with, too.
But if you aren't targeted for that, you could go to Resi dot com
and there is a seventy five thousand point offer plus 20 percent on dining
up to two hundred and fifty dollars that you could get instead.
All right, let's now move on to our second card of the video.
Number two, the built master card.
This is another credit card that caused a real buzz
when it was released in twenty twenty one.
It is the only card on the U.S.
market that lets you make rent payments to any landlord and earn points
on that purchase that you can then transfer to airlines and hotels.
There are also other bonus categories of travel and dining
where you can earn extra points.
You do have to make five purchases every month to earn points, though.
But that isn't going to be hard for most people.
There is a cap on rent spending that you can earn rewards on
of one hundred thousand points per year.
But again, that shouldn't be a problem for most people.
Another great thing about the bill card is rent date,
which is on the first of every month.
On this day, you earn double points on everything except for rent spending.
So the cards bonus categories of two X on travel and three X on dining,
as well as one X on everything are now doubled.
OK, it's two X, four X and six X.
Now, what we do need to point out, though, is that this is currently
capped at ten thousand bonus points, which is pretty generous.
But unfortunately, as of October 1st, twenty twenty four,
this is going down to a cap of one thousand extra bonus points you can earn.
It's still a great card to have in your wallet,
especially if you rent where you live, since there's no annual fee.
And there are still opportunities to earn more points,
like you might as well go out for a meal on the first of every month
and earn six points more on that.
But the strategy of putting an entire month worth of dining or travel
spending on the card on the first is going to be a thing of the past
because of that new one thousand point limit.
All right, let's move on to the next one.
But first, now, guys, I know you're watching this because you are into making money.
We have enjoyed high interest rates on bank accounts
and corporate and government bonds for some time now,
seeing rates above five percent on many T-bills.
But the Fed could be about to cut rates, which would be disastrous,
especially for savings accounts, because the rates would change immediately.
So now could be a great time to lock in those higher rates.
And today's sponsor, Silo, is an innovative platform
that can help you do just that.
You could call them the Robin Hood of bond investing.
They have a very fair commission structure of just one dollar
per thousand dollar corporate bond purchased.
And the same for U.S.
government bonds, one dollar per thousand in value purchased.
Their mobile app is also modern and easy to use.
And for my viewers, they are offering a three percent deposit match
for everyone that signs up with my link.
So you put in one thousand dollars and you get thirty dollars extra in your account.
Link for that deal is below.
But now let's get back to the video.
Number three, the city custom cash.
This card from Citi was also launched in twenty twenty one.
And this card is super convenient because it earns five percent,
which is also convertible to five X city points per dollar on five hundred dollars
in your top spending category each month from this list.
Restaurants, gas stations, grocery stores, select travel, select transit,
select streaming services, drug stores, home improvement stores, fitness clubs
and live entertainment.
But the best thing is that category is chosen automatically.
Just whatever you spend most in, boom, five X on that.
It's not like with the chase freedom where you have to activate a set category
for the quarter or whatever.
And yes, if you have other city cards, notably the city premier,
you can transfer the cash back over to that and it becomes city points
and then it can be transferred to airline partners and you can get higher value.
So if you can get two cents per point in value, then effectively
you are earning 10 percent, not five percent.
Like other five percent cards with spending caps, this card has no annual fee
and there is currently a welcome bonus of two hundred dollars
when you spend fifteen hundred dollars in six months.
All right, let's move on to the next one.
Number four, the Capital One Venture X.
Oh, look, another credit card that was launched in twenty twenty one.
I guess these companies just spent their pandemic lockdowns
designing new credit cards and came out with them after everything opened up.
But anyway, the Venture X is really exciting card,
because if you want airport lounge access, this is the cheapest way
to get unlimited access to some of the best airport lounges.
So the card has a three hundred ninety five dollar annual fee,
but then you get a three hundred dollar travel credit for Capital One travel
and a global entry credit of one hundred dollars
that you'll probably use in the first year.
Then after that, you get ten thousand points
just given to you every year after your anniversary,
which are worth at least one hundred dollars.
So that is four hundred dollars in value back every year.
But the card's annual fee is only three hundred ninety five.
So Capital One is paying you five dollars per year to keep the card
for lounge access.
You get priority pass with two guests,
Plaza Premium lounges and the new Capital One lounge.
So this means that it is the cheapest way to get unlimited lounge access
on two great lounge networks.
Then on top of that, you get the Capital One lounge.
They currently have just three locations, but they plan to open a load more.
So if you are a relative beginner or intermediate
and you're looking for your first high end travel card,
that is low commitment compared to something like the Amex Platinum
with a six hundred ninety five dollar annual fee.
This is a great choice.
And there's currently a welcome bonus of seventy five thousand Capital One miles
for spending four thousand dollars in three months as well.
All right, let's move on to our fifth and final card.
And this might be a little controversial, but I'm going with number five,
the U.S. Bank Altitude Reserve.
Now, I consider the Chase Sapphire Reserve for this spot.
But since this isn't a video for serious credit card nerds,
but instead for the average person to get value out of their cards,
I consider the U.S.
Bank Altitude Reserve to do a lot of the same things
that Chase Sapphire Reserve does, but at a cheaper price point.
So let's take a look at it.
The card's main selling points are that it earns three points per dollar
on mobile wallet purchases and five points per dollar on prepaid hotels
and car rentals through U.S.
Bank and the points like the points on the Chase Sapphire Reserve
are worth one point five cents per point when you use them for travel purchases.
So you can see on this points calculator my eighty six thousand points a year
from a hypothetical one thousand dollars a month in mobile wallet
spending would be eight hundred and sixty dollars in cashback,
but one thousand two hundred ninety dollars in travel.
As for annual fees, the card costs four hundred dollars a year,
but there is a three hundred and twenty five dollar credit for travel
and dining, even for takeout.
So that brings us down to seventy five dollars per year.
You also do get a hundred dollar global entry credit.
So if you use that in your first year, they're effectively paying you.
But most years it's going to be seventy five dollars.
Then the card also gives eight lounge access passes for priority pass,
which for most people who vacation once or twice a year is going to be enough.
So if you are someone who is considering the Sapphire Reserve
for the one point five cents in value per point, but wasn't liking the five
hundred and fifty dollar annual fee, this may be a great alternative.
Of course, if you want the Chase Sapphire Lounge,
then you do need to go for the Sapphire Reserve.
But I thought it was interesting to show you how much value you can get out
of an alternative to one of the most well-known cards out there.
Thanks for watching, guys.
