Chinese Traditional Story: Evil Intention Nearly Caused Disaster

This story took place during Emperor Tang Dezong’s reign, in the year of Zhen Yuan. A man named Zhou Han saw a man introducing a fifteen-year-old boy. He said that the boy could remain under water for long periods of time; he could even stay under water for several days. Zhou Han thought the boy's ability was magical, so he hired him, and changed his name to "Water Spirit". One year, Zhou Han travelled from the Shu State to Jiang Ling by boat. When they passed through the Qu Tang valley, he asked Water Spirit to go to the bottom of the river to find out how deep it was.
