WE LOVE BOGOTÁ - spending our last day in Usaquén and getting locals to try hormigas culonas

The guy gifted us with a free beer. That was so sweet of him. Good morning you guys. It is day 6 of our daily vlogging challenge. Today is our last day in Bogota. But we're pretty excited. We're heading to a market. A ton of you guys have recommended and some locals here as well. Buenos dias. How are you? Traffic today huh? No. Which was surprising. So Bogota is known for terrible traffic. But so far this is the best car ride we've had. Thank you. Have a good day. It's one of Bogota's most well known markets. So many people told us to come here. It starts at 10am and goes until I think 6pm. And we're here right around 10.30am. So let's go check it out. Looks like a lot of handicrafts. Yeah. It looks like a lot of artisan goods from what I've seen so far. Okay so this is the area I've been waiting for. Coffee, juices, pastries. I think I saw an empanada. Let's go check it out. Oh my gosh. Look at that color. That's a beautiful orange. It is. I love how the orange juice is not like overly sweet. It's very tart. It's so good. So I have to say the juice here in Colombia has been the best I've ever had. It's by far the freshest. I'm not a big pulp fan but there's always a ton of pulp. And just because it's freshly squeezed usually, whatever the juice may be. It's amazing. If you can believe we've been in Bogota for over... This is our 7th day. It's our 7th day and I have not had an empanada yet. So this is my first one here at the Uzeque market. Can I see that middle? Mmm. So? Does it live up to all the hype? It's really good on this. It's like warm and it's kind of chilly outside. So yeah. It does. So it's a carne empanada. Wow. It's amazing. Very crunchy. Savory. And the meat's been so delicious here. It lives up to the hype. Perfect little breakfast treat. Woo! 25. This one, right? Is that your bargaining skills? I don't have any bargaining skills. She doesn't. This is the price. What is this? Chocolate. Uh huh. That's delicious. A lot of the chocolate here is San Azucar, so no sugar. So it's just chocolate. Just cacao. We just found a chocolate stand. All the chocolate's here for Colombia. I think we're getting some with almonds, peanuts. She just gave us a little sample too. Delicious. Look this. Okay. A little dark chocolate bar, San Azucar, and a bag of dark chocolate with almonds, sesames, and merengón. I think that's macadamia, but I'm not quite sure. It's the third nut that's in the chocolate. Gracias. Now I know why I read online this market, to take out a lot of cash and you'll come away with nothing, because I want to buy everything. This is natural soap bars, shampoo bars, conditioner bars. It all smells wonderful. So we forgot our dry bag at home, but this is perfect. We just ran into this gentleman who's selling them. Now let's get back to the video. I just got a fresh coconut. It was only $0.50, which is about $1.50. Wow, so fresh and delicious. Wow, so many cool art shops here. Very high quality goods, it seems to be. But it definitely is sensory overload. There's tons of people. It's hard to move in and about. And I read about a cool beer place around here. We're going to go try some microbrews. What'll it do? So we just made it to a brewing company here. It's called BBC. We've seen them all over Bogota, but we had no idea what it means. Bogota Brewing Company. Now that makes sense. But the ambience here is so awesome. Inside, it's so rustic. There's old barrels, a bunch of cool old posters. And the ambience outside is... And the ambience outside is also great. There's flowers, heating lamps. So comfortable and quiet now, away from the market. We couldn't decide what beer to try, so we decided to get a flight. We're trying them all out. I'm excited. I don't know if my translations are correct. Tommy and I speak a little bit of Spanish. But we're trying the October Special. I'm pretty sure he said it was banana. Cheers. Do you taste the fructose? So much. It's fruity. I don't know what else to say. I actually really love this. I don't really enjoy like sours or really like fruit beers. But this is really nice. I think it kind of tastes a little bit tropical. Perfecto. Chapinero negra. Chapinero. Gracias. Oh, this is named after a neighborhood. So it's pretty cool. One's named after the neighborhood. Another one's named after Monserrate. And the third one was... One wasn't Tricky Tricky. So this is the one I didn't catch the name of. Do you know the name of this one? I think that is the Monserrate. Oh, the Monserrate. This one tastes pretty basic, I think. Yeah. Pretty normal. Cool. Like, no notes are like jumping out at me. Trying the Monserrate now. I think this is the lightest lager there is. Oh, that's good. Very easy. I taste notes of... I'm just joking. So this is the Tricky Tricky Blonde Ale. Oh, it has a very delightful smell. The Blonde Ale is the fruitiest. It's the lightest yet. Very easy going. If you like Blonde Ale, you'll like this one. For me, not my favorite. Look at that bracelet you stole from me. So I got the bracelet. It's perfect for the season. Halloween colors, orange and black. Sammy just got her nails done, actually. How much was that pedicure and manicure here? It was only $25 for a gel mani-pedi here. That was including tip. I think she did an excellent job, right? She was... She spent a lot of time with it. I was waiting for a long time. She was amazing. She spent like three hours doing my toes and my nails. So I was like, oh, this is really nice. Okay, I've been looking forward to this one. IPA is always my favorite. The guy called an IPA here. So maybe they call it IPA's in South America. We called it IPA's before in Europe. Some people call it IPA's. We've heard it a couple of times, IPA's. Salud. Oh yeah, good hops. Great flavor. See, I always know it's the right one to order. By far the best one. Okay, Tommy and I are playing musical chairs to try these beers because this is the nice lighting. Anyway, this one is called Chapinero. So that's named after a neighborhood. The neighborhood specifically where we learned how to play Tejo. Cheers. Ooh, I like the way this smells a lot. Yeah, it smells like a porter. It does. A porter. That's the other word I was looking for. Not a stout, an importer. Hmm, okay. This is my favorite. Are we surprised? No. No, this is my favorite. I love this. You and my mom always love the dark beers. Yeah, this is really good. Very good. I'm surprised how delicious the beers are. I didn't expect much. It exceeds my expectations, no doubt. Perfect little stop. Okay, so that was a perfect little break. Pick me up just what we needed. We're going to go walk around Uxtequin and get more of a feel for this little neighborhood and go through the park. So I went to pay and the guy gifted us with a free beer. That was so sweet of him. Did he pay why or no? Maybe he said, but I think because you like the IPA, the Septimazo. So this is the IPA. Oh, that's so sweet of him? So sweet. All right, one more beer. That's what we're saying. Oh, shucks. So we just came to this little park. Something about this neighborhood. This is the Uxtequin neighborhood. It actually used to be its own little town outside of Bogota. And then Bogota grew so big that it pretty much engulfed this little town. And it's now a neighborhood here in Bogota. But it still has like a small town feel to it. Like we're sitting in front of the church and the little park and everybody's walking their dogs and there's the market. So it definitely has a small town feel, but we're still in Bogota. Anyway, just a little bit about the area that we're in. You made a friend? We came early in the morning right when the market opened. But now that we've had our beer, it's the afternoon. It is so much more lively. So if you're looking for like a good vibe, like something to do on a Sunday here, this is definitely the place. Cuanto mil? Seventa mil. Seventa mil, okay. What do you think? Would it pack up? It does pack up. Me gusta. I know, I like this one. Get it baby. Put all your stuff in it. You want something else? How cute is my bag? I've been seeing these little mochilas everywhere and I love them. And since we're going to be spending a lot of time in South America, I figured, why not? Put my groceries and everything else. And also, I put my dry bag and my chocolate I've been carrying around. I needed a bag. So, yo tengo. Cuanto es para uno? Cinco mil. Okay. Arequipe quesito. Okay. Arequipe no queso. No queso. What'd you get? So, it's called an obleas. It's two wafer cookies. And she's putting arequipe, like sauce, in the middle of it. Para princesa. Gracias, para princesa. Si. She knows it. En serio. So, we just ordered an obleas. It's a traditional dessert, street food dessert here in Colombia. Colombians love their sweet and salty mixed flavors. So, you can get this with like arequipe, like sauce, and queso, cheese. I got it with just sweet, no cheese. I don't like to mix my flavors. I like savory and I like sweet. So, this is just the sweet. Let's give it a try. It's exactly what you would expect. Thin wafer cookie with almost like dulce de leche in the middle. It's delicious. It's a pretty dessert. It's really good too. Have some. Cuanto? 20. 20 is too much. Lo siento. 10,000. 10,000, okay. I bought these huge ants. Victor actually recommended them to us. He goes, have you seen them around? We haven't, but we just saw a lady. She was super friendly. So, for 10,000, we're going to try some huge ass ants. Okay, perfect. Oh my gosh, look at these things. Look how big these guys are. They look fresh. Go for it. A little bitter. A little sour. But they're pretty good, actually. Okay, eat it up. This might be the best ant I've had. I'm going to show you the back. Watching the locals who have never tried it before? Yeah, it's so funny. Everybody says when you come here you have to try the big ass ants. But there were so many locals who have never tried it. So that was worth buying the little bag of ants and sharing it with the locals and watching their reactions. That was definitely worth it. So much fun. Sorry? So we're trying a cannabis beer. They have a stand here. Some typical Colombian drink. Oh wow. Very smooth and sweet. I expected it to be like a liqueur, but it's not. That makes sense why it's fruity. It has piña in it.
