The Peel Watershed in Northern Yukon Territory. A vast, wild place deep in the Mackenzie Mountains.
Gwich'in legend says that in ancient times a giant worm came out of the ocean
and traveled up the Mackenzie, Peel, and Snake Rivers, swallowing massive boulders along the way.
To this day, that worm hides within a mountain or lake in the Snake River headwaters.
From these headwaters, the Snake River surges through canyons and rugged peaks
where wildlife roam and humans seldom visit. Through this wild landscape, we knew there
would be plenty of both challenges and rewards on this nearly 300 kilometer long journey
over 13 days as we paddle north towards the Peel River.
