We Broke RV Etiquette at a Truck Stop - What NOT to Do (RV Life). Truck stops can be a great place to sleep overnight for an RVer. As an RVer however, there is an RV etiquette at a truck stop for what you should and should not do to make sure we don't make things more difficult for truckers. In this RV life vlog, we spend the night a very unique truck stops in our camper van. We share our experience and discuss RV etiquette at a truck stop.
We are living in a camper van with a murphy bed that can only come down when the slide is extended, so we ask permission from the truck stop to bring out our slide. Bringing out your slide in your RV at a truck stop would, in our opinion, normally be breaking RV etiquette. In this case, we get the appropriate permission and make sure that we have the space to do so and that we don't take up multiple RV parking spaces at the truck stop.

OK, I know you said truck stop, but we have an RV.
We're not a truck.
And we know there's a lot of rules that comes with, you know, the etiquette
being respectful to the truckers.
So do you know if they have RV spots there?
Yeah, no, we're going to have to I may not have planned out
as perfectly as I should have on this one, but we'll find out.
Good morning.
I kind of like saying this since we started this sort of like mini series
road trip in this beautiful, gosh, view.
And a big thank you again to Blacksford for giving us this home on wheels
for two weeks.
The only thing we're really missing right now are the kitties.
But we know we'll be with them soon, right?
Absolutely.
How about the Blacksford and see the kitties again?
I have to say, I feel like it's the afternoon, even though it's the morning,
because we got off to a very, very, very, very early start.
I'm talking way before the sunrise.
And I feel like we need to do that more often
because we kind of make dents in the trip, right?
Oh, yeah, it makes a huge, huge difference.
So we're going to check out this really cool spot.
It happens to be in the town of Pahrump called Mom's Diner
before we head to our destination because we are starving.
But on our way, we're going to be getting kind of tired, too.
So I'm sure after we have that breakfast, we're going to have to make a stop.
And the stop that we're heading to is where, babe?
We're heading to a truck stop, actually, believe it or not.
You're ready for that?
I don't know about that.
I know you mentioned it yesterday.
We're going to be picking up a truck stop.
I was like, yeah, but it's one of the coolest truck stops out there.
It's a very cool truck stop.
So we're in the heart of Pahrump.
Well, that's what Mom's Diner says.
Anyway, I can tell you, Dave found this spot here
and it looks like it's going to be extremely busy, which is great,
which means the food has great turnover.
And Dave said he actually looked at Yelp.
And it's almost amazing to see like how many positive reviews were on there.
So I'm excited.
A local favorite.
Mmm.
City thinkers.
So we put our names in.
I told you, very popular, very busy.
But it looks like it's, like you said, moves very quickly.
So we'll be in in no time because of all that delicious smell.
It's like...
And we're so hungry.
I'm starving.
After the drive, it's like, time to eat.
Oh, that long drive.
All right, looks good.
Yeah, pretty right off the bat.
You walk in and I feel just like we're there.
We're great.
How are you?
Good.
What would you like to drink?
I got to go for the hot turkey sandwich.
I know.
I'm on like a hot turkey sandwich kick a little bit.
You have been.
It's an open hot turkey sandwich.
Yeah, open, plenty of gravy.
Lots of gravy.
It's going to be good.
I know it is.
But I had to go with, of course, the skillet, which is breakfast, you know, all that great
stuff in there from the sausage and bacon and, of course, a biscuit with some homemade
gravy.
If you got to do it, you got to do it.
You got to do it right.
This has to be the coolest skillet I have seen.
I thought it was going to come out like an actual skillet, but this is mom's version
of it.
But that egg looks perfect and all of the, it's like rolling open a curtain underneath
all that from the eggs and the potato and the sausage.
Yum, yum.
Give me some.
I'm ready to dive in.
You ready to dive in?
I am.
Let's eat.
I was starving.
Oh, look at that cheese.
Oh, the cheese train.
You see that cheese train?
I see it.
Looking good.
I'll never say no to a hot turkey sandwich.
It's good, man.
It's like the moment of truth of pulling up and being exhausted after that delicious food.
We're pulling in and we're hoping to find, let's see, only spots for trucks right now.
Yeah, railroad pass, truck stop here at Travel Center.
Okay.
Maybe we can find an RV parking.
Down there is only trucks.
So if I see an RV, that's a big one.
If you see an RV, it's in a big truck area.
Yeah.
That's not, that's not supposed to be down.
I don't know if they like that down there.
Okay.
Oh boy.
So I think what we're going to do just to be safe is we're going to park and ask where
we can sleep overnight and what are the rules just so we can get a sense of what the rules
are here.
So we're abiding by them because I think once we pass out.
Oh, good dog.
I'm sorry.
I do not remember.
Well, we found a nice spot here right up against the side.
Not sure if we're actually in the overnight RV parking area.
We're going to go inside to the Travel Center and just find out, but hopefully this will
be our spot for the night.
We are leaning a little bit, so we'll have to see if we can do something about that too.
What do you think babe?
I like it.
You parked next to a couple of trees, so.
We got, we got trees.
A little bit of shade.
We got trees.
A little bit of ambiance of kind of feeling a little homey like, but I think I'm just
a bad dog.
Yeah, me too.
We'll talk to you guys later.
Woo.
Okay.
Back to really, really warm weather here in Vegas.
I am feeling really good.
And we're going into the Travel Center to get that final word.
I keep saying it because I'm still a little nervous about them saying we can't put out
the slides.
And we kind of need to because to kind of get to things in the refrigerator, we need
to do it.
So here we go.
There's even showers.
Oh, nice.
Showers and towels.
Nice.
Wow.
This is kind of nice for a little Travel Center truck stop pulling in here.
I mean, they have showers.
I don't know how much they cost, but I will ask in just a minute.
There's a Capriati's behind you for dinner.
And there's a restroom and all kinds of goodies we can grab for tonight.
Since we didn't go to the grocery store.
Exactly.
No, it's awesome.
Plus, you got the old granddaddy casino next door.
Yes, that's right.
And what is it?
Like the oldest one or something?
Yes.
Yeah.
It's the oldest continuously operated casino in Nevada.
Going back, I think it has like the third or fourth license, casino license in all of
the state.
So it's interesting.
I think the Golden Gate started before, but this one has been operating as a casino longer.
Well said.
I mean, Dave is like the Nevada historian right there, just bringing it all in.
We're going to check it out for sure.
But we need to find out what's going on with our spot.
And if we can put up the slides and put up whatever we need to find out, we better find
out now.
Okay, so here is what we've learned.
So after speaking with some of the folks inside the travel center, truckers drive all night
long.
They're really tired.
So when they get here to pull off, they want to be able to have a spot.
They do not want to see RVs in those trucker spots.
So between, say, the casino and actually the travel center, there are some designated spots
for RVs.
Now, they did say as long as we're comfortably in our spot, which you'll be able to see inserted
somewhere in here, we are in our spot that we can put our slide out.
Now, as far as balancing is concerned, that's a different story.
If you want to balance your RV at night, you're going to have to go into the casino and speak
with security to make sure that you are allowed to do that.
I think we're perfectly fine with just sleeping with a little bit more blood flow to the head
this evening.
So we'll probably be perfectly fine with that.
We are going to go check out the casino.
So maybe we will ask the security if that is something we can do.
And if not, you will know as we give you a little tour later on on how we set up in this
spot.
But definitely respect the truckers, you guys.
Seriously, there's a lot of them in here.
We've just noticed here for sure.
And a lot of them are probably sleeping right now from all these long drives.
So respect the truckers.
If there are spots here, definitely go in and ask.
Use that because we don't want to ruin it for all of us RVers out there.
We get tired, too.
So you want to make sure there are spots that's designated for us.
But if there aren't, just ask.
You'll get an answer from someone that can guide you in the right direction.
Look at that, huh?
Plenty of space.
Look at all that space.
I can even fit in here.
Right there.
I can fit.
Look at this.
Oh, man.
Look at that day.
Even the stairs are perfect.
They're perfectly in line.
Perfectly in line.
If someone comes here, just stay on this side of the line.
Don't take out our stairs.
And the nice thing, too, baby, is you can take the slide out here and not bother anybody
because you're right over this little island.
Which means we can actually get our bed down.
I know.
We can get our Murphy bed down.
But you know what?
It is going to be leaning a lot lower, so we're going to have a lot of good brain play to the brain.
We need some extra pillows this evening.
So we actually got the okay to put our blocks so that we can balance the RV for the evening.
That's what Dave's doing right now.
And that's a really important piece to this is, you know, we didn't know if we could.
We just went in and we asked security.
We spoke with the head security of this establishment, and they said it was perfectly fine.
But the real importance is to make sure you ask because every place is different.
Every truck stop is different.
So every rule is different.
So that was important.
Ask.
And I'm so happy that they said yes because I definitely want to wake up with a balanced
mind versus all that blood rushing to my head.
All right.
So it's finally time for dinner.
And they have a great sandwich shop, Capriati's, here, which we're excited to grab a sandwich
at.
They're only open until 9.
Tana's actually ahead of me.
And so we're going to get some meat.
Here we go.
Coming on through.
All right.
Hey.
Hi.
I was just asking my good old friend here what was he having for dinner.
Oh, yeah.
What he's having is extra.
It's perfect for a diet.
I'm not sure I want to have what he's having.
Or what he ate.
I think I would because it looks like something that's great for the perfect diet.
You're all skin and bones, but I don't see any skin.
I'll take what he's having.
Thank you very much.
All right.
So you can get the half size, small, medium, or this massive large one.
18 inch.
That's crazy.
Or just one of these guys right here.
Woo.
OK.
I have to honestly say that is probably one of the nicest little travel centers.
Right.
The staff is great.
I think it's great.
I love the staff's great.
Capriati's is great.
Plus, you got the casino right next door with some options, too.
It seems very organized.
Yeah, they do a good job.
It's a really important piece.
Organization.
So, so far, we're impressed.
Now, let's see how we do overnight.
Whoa, whoa.
What'd you do there?
I thought it was a little too perpendicular.
It's a little too low, so I just put a board in there.
A little Dave Special on there.
Yeah, I would have put more.
That's the only board I had.
So, hey, it does the trick.
It works.
What are you doing over there?
I am playing adventure.
Oh, there he is.
Oh, it's a dragon.
Oh, there you go.
He's, like, guarding the gate.
Oh, there he is.
Oh, here he comes.
Oh, there's some big dragon coming after you.
He's definitely a big dragon.
I'm just going to figure out how to get this key in.
Oh, my God.
There he comes.
Yes, I got it.
Okay, that's the bad guy.
What's that thing?
I don't know what's going on.
It's a classic game.
It's, like, all, like, basic.
Like, I don't know.
Like, Dot Matrix vibe.
I think this will allow me to take out the dragon.
Uh-oh.
Those two purple things were blocking the entranceway.
The magnet's kind of pulling it to it, so it allows me to kind of pass.
Everything has a purpose.
It's a classic game.
Ah!
She's pretty good at this.
Yeah.
Look at that.
Kill those things.
Steve is rocking out on all the classic Cinepeed.
Look at him go.
Look at him.
Oh, there it is.
Come on.
There it is.
Go up.
Oh.
Not that button.
Score!
Dave's almost at 10,000.
Whoa!
What can you say about that?
There's luck.
Uh-oh.
Who remembers this classic Atari?
Oh, my gosh.
This is so cool.
Wow.
10,000.
All right.
Time is cranking away here.
Almost 50,000.
Killing everything in the past.
96,972.
No!
It's almost 100,000.
Not bad for kind of warming back up after a few years since you last played Atari.
Yeah.
Only a few years.
You know.
A few years.
Oh, yeah.
All right.
Here it comes.
Inch it on down.
You take it all around.
There you go.
Put it down.
Oh!
Timber!
You're as smooth as me.
Timber!
Mama has a little smooth touch like butter.
I mean.
Oh!
We got the incredibly slippery leggings.
Nice.
So, Dave, how's the shower?
Oh, it feels great.
It's actually, it feels smaller than ours.
Does it?
It does.
Like, you know, it's the same size, a little smaller.
So, like, the shower head is a little lower in this one than ours.
So, yeah.
But it's great.
Instant hot water.
And I finally, finally get to wash off this dirt.
Now, one thing about truck stops.
Don't expect them to be quiet.
Whether it's RVs running their generators or the trucks running overnight, they tend
to be pretty loud.
But, I mean, let's take this over this way.
Now, the last thing we wanted to do was increase the tension between RVers and truckers.
And the tension can be very real.
And we didn't want to, obviously, get into any arguments with truckers as well.
Because when you're staying at a truck stop, I mean, this is really, in many cases, this
can be the only place truckers can stay.
Right?
And we're, as RVers, we have many different options to stay at.
And while truck stops can be a really nice, convenient, and cheap for RVers, you definitely
don't want to take up important spaces that truckers need.
Now, this one was great because it had its own RV section, which was very important to
us to make sure we weren't going to pick, you know, take over any trucker spots that
they need to get a good night's sleep before the next long drive the next day.
And if you're parking overnight at a truck stop, don't set up camp at the truck stop.
It's a place to overnight.
Don't bring your lawn chairs out.
Don't bring all your awning.
Obviously, in this case, we needed to bring out our slide to actually get our bed down
and sleep.
But we made sure that, actually, the slide went over an island.
We did not take up two spots.
And, you know, we often see RVers will come in, they'll come in and maybe take up two
spots and really set things up.
That's really not what you're supposed to do at truck stops.
And also, if you're visiting a truck stop, especially locally owned ones, you know, we
recommend going in, you know, picking up some things.
Obviously, you can fill up your gas tank, maybe pick up some food and coffee, which
I'm doing right now because I've got to get some coffee.
But overall, I mean, this truck stop here, I've got to say, it's a great spot if you're
coming into Las Vegas looking for a place to overnight.
They have RV spots.
They have some really nice food here at Capriati's right at the truck center.
Then across the way at the casino, you have some pretty good restaurant options.
Obviously, if you like playing slots or something, you can play some slots.
But this morning, we're going to actually get some free breakfast over at the casino
because we signed up for players' cars.
And when you sign up, you have an option of free breakfast or like a burger or something.
We opted for the free breakfast.
So we're getting that this morning.
But first up, it's time for coffee.
Good morning, baby.
Good morning.
Coffee for you.
Thank you.
You know, I knew when you were gone, I was like, he's probably over there picking up
some coffee.
Got to get the coffee.
Got to have that morning coffee.
So are we heading over after this to get that free breakfast?
We're definitely getting that free breakfast.
Absolutely.
Hold on.
Let's get your coffee.
Oh, OK.
A little morning toast.
Our last day in this beautiful view.
Cheers.
Cheers, baby.
Love you.
Love you so much.
Coffee and breakfast.
Exactly.
Staying at a truck stop.
Well, that's not supposed to happen right there.
You can see taking up that spot.
The trucker's coming out.
All right.
Feeding the pigeons here.
Oh, come back.
There they are.
Coming back.
That's funny.
Feeding the pigeons here at the truck stop.
Those are some happy pigeons.
The reason why I'm telling you this is because the last thing we want to do is increase the
tension between RVers and truckers.
That's not supposed to happen right there.
There's an RV spot right across the way.
And of course, we're in the truck stop here where the trucks are supposed to park.
Perfect.
I got our two passes.
The Iron Rail Cafe.
Time for some breakfast.
You're very welcome.
And you guys enjoy.
Are you filming here?
Yeah.
Hi, how are you?
Oh.
Thank you.
How are you?
Good.
Thank you.
Yeah, I've watched it and everything.
Oh, we've got to give you a gift.
Oh, thank you.
Of course.
Do you want to say hi to the camera?
Hi!
I love them.
They are just so cool couple.
Thank you so much.
Thank you.
That's amazing.
Oh, I love it.
I see folks in the road just stopping and saying hello.
And I love it that we're here for a day.
I keep saying it.
Breakfast!
Exactly.
I don't know, breakfast seems to taste a little bit better when it's complimentary.
Nothing wrong with that.
I know I mentioned this already, but just to cover this for those that skipped right
to this breakfast.
Nom nom.
Exactly.
When you come here, if it's your first time, make sure you sign up for the player's card
because it comes with actually a free breakfast or like a free burger.
Right, babe?
Yeah, exactly.
You kind of have your choice.
Of course, we're going for the free breakfast.
It's great.
You get it with two eggs.
You get bacon or sausage, toast.
And it also comes with orange juice or coffee as well.
So that's pretty cool.
Totally went for the orange juice because we had coffee this morning.
But the voucher is for seven days.
So when you sign up, it is for seven days and things may change.
So this is at the time of this video, that's kind of the promotion they're offering with
that.
But get your player's card, get those $5.
We got the $5 free play and a free breakfast.
Breakfast.
So did our friend get the free breakfast?
He got the free breakfast.
No, the one that was feeding the pigeons.
Yes.
So he took your advice and came in and got that reward card.
And plus they also have deals for truckers too.
Yes.
He has deals that we won't be eligible for.
Right.
If you have a CDL license.
Yeah.
You can do that.
Yep.
Yeah.
This place is great.
It really does serve the truckers really well.
Oh, what does a free breakfast look like today?
Well, you got your hash browns.
You got your eggs with hot sauce and you got your sausage links.
It looks good is what it looks like.
It looks good.
I don't know.
But this life keeps on moving.
Don't you worry about me.
I've been so behind tonight.
Now one thing I should mention about this truck stop.
They do have an RV dump station.
Just know, however, it is $25 to dump.
So not cheap at all.
But hey, if you need to get that RV dump in, you can do it here.
It's just $25.
And it's right across from the gas pump.
And for those of you wondering what it looks like once we have these slides in.
This is kind of what it looks like.
Yep.
You still got access to the bathroom, but it's tough to get into that refrigerator.
So yeah, I know just in case you're curious what it looks like with the slides in.
That's it.
All right.
So for the final, final fill up, we have $79.48 and 16 gallons with a whopping $4.93 or $4.94.
Exactly.
In diesel.
Oh my goodness gracious.
I can't wait for the video we're going to put together so we can show you the total
of this trip.
Stay tuned for that video.
Dave's going to be doing some heavy calculations.
Outrageously expensive.
