Hello friends and welcome to your YouTube channel, My Expert Doctor.
I am Dr Shalini Singh Salonke, your consultant physician.
Dry cough is a really difficult situation to handle.
It will keep bothering you while eating, while talking, while presentation
or even while sleeping. It won't let you rest even for a couple of hours.
Because of all these coughing, you might start feeling chest pain, throat pain,
exhaustion. You might empty a couple of cough syrup bottles but still,
it won't stop bugging you completely.
We do know that medicines have side effects. Cough syrups are medicines.
They have codeine as the cough suppressing agent.
This codeine is responsible for side effects like sleepiness, addiction, rebound cough.
So, it's always better to prefer home remedies over cough suppressant
or over-the-counter medications.
Even medically advanced countries like US, UK also recommend home remedies
as the primary treatment options for people who are suffering from allergic or infective coughs.
So, in today's video, we are going to explore home remedies for dry cough.
The ingredients of these home remedies are very easily available in your kitchen.

They are very inexpensive. They are very, very effective.
Probably more effective than the cough suppressant or cough syrups.
As well as, they are 100% safe.
And towards the end of the video, I am going to share 5 bonus tips
which will make these home remedies more effective.
So, watch this video till the end and don't skip it because you probably
might know the ingredients but you don't know how in what proportion
these ingredients should be mixed to get the maximum benefits.
So, let's begin the video.
The first in the list is ginger.
With its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory property,
it's usually the go-to home remedy for cough, cold, or sore throat.
It can be taken in various combinations like,
Number one, ginger syrup.
One teaspoon of warm ginger juice with half teaspoon of honey, twice or thrice a day.
Second is ginger honey lemon tea.
One inch ginger with one teaspoon of honey and one teaspoon of lemon juice
in one cup of lukewarm water, twice a day.

The second in the list is honey.
It reduces mucous formation, soothes throat and hence reduces urge to cough.
Very effective if you have night time cough issues as well.
Many studies have suggested that its efficacy in reducing dry cough is
even more than dextromethorphan which is a cough syrup component.
It can be used for all age groups but remember never to give honey to an infant
less than one year of age as it may cause botulism or floppy baby syndrome in them.
Now how to use it?
First way is to add one teaspoon of honey in 100 ml lukewarm water
and you can have it twice or thrice a day.
Second way is to just have one teaspoon of honey three to four times a day.
