Fearless first grader Steve Roberson has been riding waves since he was just 2 years old.
So the six-year-old you're about to meet is being hailed as a prodigy, though his mother might wish he were a little less fearless.
Because he's not a virtuoso violinist or a chess wizard, this kid can surf the gnarliest of waves.
We welcome ABC's T.J. Holmes to Nightline with this report.
Check out the latest surfing sensation catching waves. He flies through the water with the greatest of ease, but no.
It's not surfing megastar Laird Hamilton. It's actually a six-year-old. Yeah, six.
This pint-sized prodigy is making a splash in the surfing world by shredding waves bigger than he is off the coast of Maui.
At 6'2", Hamilton is at the top of his game in the documentary Riding Giants.
He's even known for co-inventing a new method called toe-end surfing to help catch the biggest waves.
Little Roberson has only one priority.
I like having fun.
He goes by Baby Steve or Uncle Baby, but make no mistake, even at six, he's no newbie.
My name is Steve, and I like to surf.
He's actually been riding waves since the ripe old age of two.
It's not just waves that dwarf this little guy, either. It's his fellow surfers.
Roberson can hold his own alongside surfers five times his age.
It's no wonder he got an early start. For the Robersons, surfing is something of a family sport.
I like surfing with my brothers, but not when they're talking to me for, like, 24 hours.
Are annoying siblings really his greatest fear on the water?
Roberson says those waves don't intimidate him.
I don't get scared, because I always know that God's with me.
But what about Mom?
When they first started, it was really nerve-wracking.
But now, over the years, they've been doing it for so long, I don't worry about them as much.
I'm so proud of them.
Keep an eye on him. This Maui maestro has no plans to retire anytime soon.
He's just getting started, and as he grows, so will the size of the waves he conquers.
I want to surf for the rest of my life, and when I grow up, I want to be a professional surfer and do big airs.
For Nightline, I'm T.J. Holmes.
