ready for the second half to kick off on Friday. These all star breaks feel like they get longer
and longer. But before we get back to the action, again, we are less than two weeks away
from the MLB trade deadline. So I'm going to tell you what my three dream trade scenarios
looks like. Who would I go after? I'm also going to get some of your responses as well.

loves talking about the trade deadline. Before we get into what my top moves will be and I'm
going to give you my three trade deadline moves that I think the Braves need to make.
Let's talk about what they need. I believe, and this is my personal take,
we'll love to know yours. I believe the Braves need two hitters and I believe those hitters
need to be more on base oriented, contact oriented with some speed. Now this isn't me
saying the Braves need to just completely change their approach top to bottom in the lineup,
but here's the thing, and I say it all the time. You may be tired of hearing me saying it.
Nothing is going to matter unless Austin Riley hits like Austin Riley. Matt Olsen hits like
Matt Olsen. Ozzie, Michael Harris, when he comes back, Ozuna has to stay hitting.
Sean Murphy has to step up. Be nice to get something out of Orlando Garcia.
It doesn't really matter who you get at this deadline if those guys don't hit like they're
capable of and what those guys do well is hit for power. You got plenty of power in this lineup.
It just needs to start showing up more often. What you don't have in this lineup are guys who can
take walks, steal bases, put the ball in play when you need to, try to do those little things to help
them score runs in different ways. Not saying you have to have a lineup full of that. I'm talking
about filling out the bottom of the order with guys like this. So those are some of the guys
that I'm targeting. So my trades probably aren't going to be quite as exciting as what you are
hoping for. Also as part of this exercise, I'm only taking names that are on MLB Trade Rumors
top 50 trade targets at the trade deadline. Now that is pretty all-encompassing. I think
pretty much all those names are right on point. There may be some surprises that come off of that
list, but I will be choosing all the names from players who are on that list. Now along with that,
who needs to be replaced? You look at this Braves roster right now, obviously hoping we're going to
get Michael Harris back here pretty soon. He's going to replace Eli White on this roster. So
that's one person that's going to get replaced. There's still three other people, in my opinion,
that need to be replaced. Zach Short, upgrading the infield depth piece. Either Eddie or Adam
Duvall, depending on what type of bench bat that you get, right-handed or left-handed.
I think either Eddie or Adam needs to be replaced. Most likely Eddie. And then I think Grant Holmes.
I know it's a great story. I know the Braves can probably make a lot of money selling those wigs,
but I think he's not somebody you're going to be relying on down the stretch in high leverage
situations or in a postseason series. So for me, there's three pretty obvious candidates on the
roster right now that need to be replaced. And that's not accounting for any injuries that may
happen later on, because those are still a thing. Just because the trade deadline's over doesn't
mean your players can't still get injured. So you have to prepare for some of that depth.
So I'm picking three players, again, from NLB Trade Rumor's list of potential trade candidates,
and I'm looking to replace Zach Short, Eddie Rosario, and Grant Holmes. So that means I'm
getting two bats and a relief pitcher. Some of you may still be thinking that we need a starting
pitcher, and there's actually a lot of good starting pitchers available on the trade market.
So I wouldn't hate if the Braves went and did that, but I don't think it's necessary. Look,
if you get to the postseason with a healthy rotation of Freed, Sale, Lopez, Morton,
I feel really good about the Braves' chances. And again, a lot can happen in that last two
months and somebody get injured. So maybe you grab an arm just to give you some more depth there.
But you still have Schwellenbach, who's looked really good. I don't know what he looked like in
a postseason series. You have A.J. Smith-Shawver coming back. You have Ian Anderson. You have
Bryce Elder. So, I mean, you have arms to help you get through the rest of the season.
But look, if Max Freed gets hurt, Chris Sale gets hurt, the season's probably a bust at that point
anyway. I don't know that you can overcome losing another frontline starter after already losing
Spencer Strider. So if you lose one of those guys, it's pretty much a bust at that point anyway.
And I just don't see the Braves going all-in to get a top, the rotation starter. And later,
I'm going to answer the question, is this the season the Braves should go all-in
at the trade deadline? We've never really even seen Alex do that, so I doubt he would anyway.
But we'll talk about that a little bit later on. So let's get to my first move. And this one's,
again, my moves aren't really going to excite you. I'm going to give you some of the
listener dream scenarios later. But the first one for me is Tanner Scott,
left-handed relief pitcher from the Miami Marlins. Braves came into this season with
plenty of left-handed options out of the bullpen, with Tyler Massick, Dylan Lee,
Aaron Bummer, AJ Minter, even had Ray Kerr, who's now injured. They had plenty of left-handed
options. At this point, though, Massick is hurt. I don't know that you can really count on him for
anything the rest of the season. Lee has good numbers, but he's not generally somebody that's
used in higher leverage situations. He's usually somebody that's used when the top bullpen arms
are unavailable or you need somebody in the mid-innings to kind of bridge that gap.
Bummer's been solid. I know he's had a couple of hiccups here and there, but for the most part,
he's been solid. But he's somebody you more so want to bring in to get a ground ball. You need
a double play to get out of an inning. Aaron Bummer's your guy. AJ Minter is really the only
high leverage left-handed arm that the Braves have. We saw it in a recent game. Brian Snicker
preferred to go with Joe Jimenez over AJ Minter with a couple of lefties coming up. Jimenez is
good against lefties. You can certainly do that, but you would generally think that Minter is the
guy for those situations. I don't know. Obviously, Minter's just coming off the IL. I don't know.
Maybe that tells you where Minter is in the pecking order right now. Look, he was struggling
a little bit before he got injured, and he's been okay since he came back. But getting somebody
like Tanner Scott, it would give you another left-handed arm that you can use in high leverage
situations in the 7th and 8th inning. Now, Tanner Scott, good strikeout stuff, 27.6% K-rate. Actually,
I'd love to see that back up over 30% like it was last year. But he doesn't give up any hits,
a 189 XBA. The only scary part here, and it is very scary, a 15.3% walk rate. As you know,
and they say it all the time, in the postseason, a walk is a rally. And so that certainly could
get him in trouble, but it's a guy that doesn't give up a lot of hits. He racks up the strikeouts,
big-time stuff from the left-hand side. So I really like Tanner Scott. I think he would be
a good option. He's a rental, so it shouldn't cost you all that much, but he's going to be
one of the more sought-after relief arms at the deadline. So could cost you more maybe than you
would like to pay for a rental player. And I'm also in this dream scenario, assuming that we
don't have any competition for any of these guys. So Tanner Scott would be the first move that I
make. Upgrade that bullpen, give you another high leverage setup arm from the left side.
So Tanner Scott is the first move that I would make. When we come back, I'm going to tell you
the second and third moves that I would make, including two bats that I would make. One,
somebody that I think that could play pretty much every day, and another one just to add some depth
on the bench. We'll discuss those moves and get into some of your suggestions here next.

All right, my second move for the Atlanta Braves, if you've been listening to the podcast for a
while now, you probably know where I'm going with this one. I've been talking about Jesse
Winker for weeks now. He's a rental player, so shouldn't cost that much, should be pretty cheap
to get him. I'm mainly wanting Jesse Winker and why I'm picking him over some other names that
I'll get into. I mainly want him for his 374 on-base percentage, his 13.5% walk rate, his
18.7% chase rate, the 12 steals that he has, and an 862 OPS against righties. He checks off pretty
much all the box for the player that I am wanting. And again, this is just Jake here. This is the
type of player that I am wanting for the Braves in their lineup. His range in a corner outfield
spot is pretty bad, but he does have a solid arm to make up for it. And the Braves lived with Eddie
Rosari there last year. I can't imagine that Jesse Winker is too much worse than that. And I just
feel like he's a type of bat that this lineup needs. Someone that you can plug in at the top
of the order against righties to get on base. You can plug him in at the bottom of the order
to set up the top, and he can just do some little things for you that this lineup desperately needs.
It would be a platoon situation. You most likely would not start him against a lefty. So while I
would love an everyday player here, I do think just what Jesse Winker brings you, and it's a
strong side of platoon he's going to be playing most days, I just feel like that is what this
team needs. I see Joe Mee saying a Winker-Duvall platoon would be solid. I agree. I certainly
agree with that. I think that would be very, very solid to be an upgrade in the Eddie Duvall
platoon that you have right now. Having said all that, if the Angels are willing to trade
Taylor Ward, I might prefer him here. Obviously, Luis Robert would be best-case scenario to get him
an impact bat, but he hasn't had an on-base percentage above 320 in four or five seasons.
You aren't getting him for his OBP, though. You're getting him because he's going to smash,
maybe another 15, 20 home runs the rest of the way and still as many bases and play really good
defense in the outfield. So clearly, Luis Robert is on a stage of his own, but I don't know that
that's exactly what this team needs. Again, if everybody else in this lineup is giving you what
they should be, you're getting that type of production. Maybe not necessarily the speed part
of it. I don't know. It's hard for me to sit here and call myself a baseball fan and say that I'd
rather have Jesse Winker over Luis Robert in a dream scenario, but I just feel like this lineup
needs something different than Luis Robert in there. Randy Rosarena would be a good option
here as well. He's played better lately. He has a career OBP of 344 and he's on pace for his fourth
straight 2020 season. So I wouldn't mind Randy Rosarena here if you're buying that it was a slow
start and he has picked things back up. Cody Bellinger is hurt right now, but he would be
another great fit here. Mike Tuchman also of the Cubs. He is hurt at the moment as well,
but would be a great fit, although he doesn't run as much as some of the others. I'd be thrilled
with any of these guys. Winker, Ward, Robert, Rosarena, Bellinger, Tuchman. There's six names
right there. You get any one of those and I would be ecstatic at this trade deadline. I think all of
you get two of those and I'm just absolutely through the roof, but I think you have to get
at least one of those six guys for me. Again, talking about guys that were on that list and
AA doesn't go by list. He is turning over every stone possible to make the right move for this
team. I fully believe that, but of the guys on this list, these are six that I would love to get
that I think would help this team tremendously. But I'm picking Jesse Winker here again for the
on-base, for the steals that he's showing this year, and just his ability to make contact and
get on base. Something I think this lineup desperately needs. My third move, I'm going to
say Nico Horner knowing this isn't going to happen. It's not going to happen for several reasons,
mainly because the Cubs likely still view him as an everyday player. I don't, and the Braves would
be acquiring him as a backup plan for Ozzie in case of injury. Ozzie does get injured quite often,
or a backup plan for RC at shortstop if he just continues to decline and can't get it together.
But he is also that ideal hitter who doesn't strike out. He will take his walks, although he's
under 10% with the walk rate. I would like to see that go up some, and he can steal a lot of bases.
He's also gold glove at second base. Don't know if the Braves would ever do it, but it could be a
nice defensive replacement for Ozzie Owens, although Ozzie's defense has picked up here
as of late. You've seen a little bit better range from him, and these two have pretty similar
arm strength. And Nico Horner can also handle shortstop with the added range that he has,
but again, it's an arm that's almost as bad as Ozzie's. Now, another reason it's not going to
happen, he's owed over $10 million the next two years, so doesn't make a ton of sense in that
regard. But he was on this list, and he's just that type of hitter that I think the Braves need.
He would be great in that backup infielder situation, but you're going to have to pay
starter prospects to get him, and financially as well with what the Cubs have already locked him up
for. Another name that I think probably makes more sense but isn't quite that hitter that I want is
Luis Rejifo. So again, knowing that Nico Horner's not going to happen, Luis Rejifo is probably my
third move more likely. He's also injured right now, but switch hitter, he gives you a little bit
of everything as well, can play all over, doesn't strike out, has 22 steals on the year despite
a low sprint speed. But as we know at this point, sprint speed doesn't really mean much of anything
when it comes to stealing bases. Jesse Winker, another example of that. However, he does chase
a lot and just a 4.8% walk rate this year. So that doesn't really match up with the type of
hitter that I'm looking for, but it would be a perfect utility bench guy that can fill in all
over, hit from both sides, gives you some speed. So I do think he is the more likely perfect
scenario option to replace Zach Short. I am not in on the Bobachet train. The vibes around Bobachet
aren't great in my opinion. Not a great defender at shortstop, and it's the second straight year
of a decline, and he's way too young to be declining like he is. So I steer away from
Bobachet. I know there's going to be plenty of people in their dream scenarios that want him,
but I kind of move away from Bobachet right now. A couple of comments here. I see some in the chat
section talking about Jazz Chisholm, Braves Thrill says, I wouldn't hate Jazz Chisholm or Randy
Rosarena. For me, Jazz is also just one of those guys. I don't know. I just feel like on the field,
there's bad vibes. Certainly love his personality. I think it would fit well. Maybe give the Braves
a little bit of a spark, but I don't know. I've just never been huge on Jazz and the price you're
going to have to pay. Those trades are just really hard within the division. So I mean, I wouldn't
hate having him on the team, but I just, I don't feel like that's, I don't feel like it's going to
happen. And I don't know if I necessarily love the fit or what he gives you on the field.
Mass boost. I don't see a reason why Baltimore wouldn't entertain trading Jackson holiday.
I mean, what, what would the Braves realistically give for Jackson holiday? Even if his stock has
gone down and I don't, I don't know that it has, but even if his stock has gone down,
I really don't think the Braves have a package that could land you a Jackson holiday,
unless you're giving up something at the, the major league level. I mean, you could throw out
a Spencer Schwellenbach and a Hurston Waldrop. Is that, is that enough or get the number one
prospect in, in baseball? I don't know. But I think their Orioles could be interesting trade
partner because they do need pitching Braves have pitching and the race could certainly use
some bats. But again, both of those, both teams obviously looking to upgrade at the deadline.
All right, next, we'll get into some more of your comments and takeaways

social media that you sent in. Jared Vickery says, Ian Anderson, Michael Harris, Waskari,
Noah. It's like making a trade without giving up anyone. We got some Chip Carey
references coming in here, but you know, those are obviously three guys. I was
not necessarily including those. I'm hoping those guys are going to have something.
Kelnyx Boomstick really shot high here, said Jack Flaherty, Jazz Chisholm, and Mason Miller.
If the Braves wanted to just go all in on starting pitching, and maybe that is the correct path
this year is to just go all in on starting pitching. I would love to get Jack Flaherty.
I just, I don't think starting pitching is necessary. And Jack Flaherty was number one
on MLB trade rumors, trade targets. I would love to have Jack Flaherty. We talked about Jazz
already. I don't know why the A's would trade Mason Miller. Maybe this value is as high as
ever going to be, and you capitalize on that. But I would hope that they get an absolute
ransom for Mason Miller. Same for the White Sox if they were to trade Garrett Crochet.
Personally, I hate to see these small market teams trade away really good players, exciting
players that they can build around. And maybe I know it's probably four or five years down the
road for either of those teams before they're competing, and those guys may not even be
viable then. But I just really hope if those two guys are traded, they better get
a huge package for them. Nate Oates, Mechanic Shop. I don't know what that means.
Boveshet, Garrett Crochet, and Brian De La Cruz. I talked about Boveshet. I just mentioned Crochet.
I think that package would have to be absolutely massive. Brian De La Cruz is an interesting one.
He's under control for a while. I'm more so I'm looking on the rental side of things for an
outfielder. Brian De La Cruz would be solid. It would be okay. It's not anything that would
get me too excited. I think you'd probably have to give up more than you want to for somebody that
just doesn't get you that excited. Hayden Harris says Gunnar Henderson, Kyle Tucker, and Camilo
Duval. I know a lot of people mentioned Kyle Tucker. I know the Astros are back in it now,
so they're probably not going to be sellers at this point. I don't know where the Gunnar Henderson
one comes from, but that might be a little bit too dreamy there. You might want to go back to sleep.
Mordecai Heyduke says Matt McClain, Lawrence Butler, and Jazz Chisholm. So many people
wanting Jazz. Am I just so off on Jazz? I feel like he's overrated. For what you're going to
have to give up, and I guess this is a dream scenario, so I shouldn't be focusing too much
on what you have to give up. Jazz is a good player when he's healthy. I don't know. Same
with Boba Shedd. I just have bad vibes around Jazz Chisholm as a player. Matt McClain is an
interesting one. He'd be coming back from injury for the Reds. Lawrence Butler with the A's could
be another interesting one as well. I know he had a big game the other day before the All-Star break
against the Phillies, so if he can match against the Phillies, why not bring him over? Davey says
dream would be Miller, Winker, and Holiday. Another Holiday one here. Are the Orioles really
thinking about trading Holiday? I feel like he's still in the plans for the future there.
Davey also said more realistic but still unlikely. Tauchman, Duvall, and Ward. I would love that. I
don't know if Duvall is going to be available or what the contract looks like for him, how many
years of control left they have over him, but I would love that deadline. Tauchman, Duvall, and
Ward. 4PF Danny. I think Kevin Pallaro would be a great guy to bring back. Solid defender who can
get high to the plate and brings the leadership aspect for the young guys in the outfield,
but with Duvall and Nettie, I don't see it happening. To get Pallaro, you'd have to get
rid of Duvall, in my opinion, and I don't know that the Braves are willing to do that. I do like
Pallaro for the leadership. Like you mentioned, he does crush left-handed pitching, but you kind
of already have that in Duvall. Jay Cho says Ian Hap, Nico Horner, Jamison Tyon. So just ransacking
the Cubs there. I've always liked Ian Hap, switch hitter, good power, does a little bit of everything
for you. Talk about Nico. Is Tyon really an upgrade for this rotation? It'd be some more
depth. Double A Alex says Garrett Crochet, Cody Bellinger, William Contreras. That is quite
dreaming. I don't think they're going to get William Contreras back. Bellinger is a possibility.
I don't think the Braves are going to pay the price that it should take to get a Garrett Crochet.
Joshua Daniels, Lubav, Bo, and Sonny Gray. The Cardinals are nipping on the Braves' heels
in the wild cards. I don't think they're going to be sellers. We talked about Bo and Lubav
already. Austin Burke, Luis Robert, Tarek Schuble, and Jazz Chisholm. Tarek Schuble is on MLB trade
rumors list there at the very bottom. Again, it's the same feeling I kind of have about Crochet
and Miller. You're a rebuilding team. Tigers even more so. They're closer to contention than the
other two. Why would you trade Schuble? He's the guy that you build around, and we talked about
those other two already. Jesse Quintino says Robert Jr., Crochet, and Miller. We've already
talked about those guys. Jamin, J-A-M-I-N, says Bichette, Roberts, and Ward. I like Ward. I like
Roberts. Not so high on Bichette. Just because we have to, Brad Bradford throws in Trevor Bauer
because that conversation is just never going to go away, it seems like. Thanks for submitting
those in on social media. Thanks for that. I want to answer this question, though. Is this the year
for the Braves to go all in? When you lose your top hitter and your top pitcher within the first
two months, it's probably not the year for you to go all in at the deadline. Going all in would be
giving up A.J. Smith-Shaw, Hurston Waldrop, Spencer Schwellenbach, J.R. Ritchie, Owen Murphy.
Giving up those guys, your top five prospects for Luis Robert or Randy Rosarena or Garrett Crochet
or Mason Miller, you would have to give up a lot of those guys, several of those guys, to get
most of those players. Is this the year that you do that? Is this the roster that you go
all in with? I don't know that it is. I believe this team has the ability to win the World Series.
I really, really do. But they need some things to break their way. Whether that be good matchups in
the postseason, bats getting hot at the right time, which you always need in the postseason.
I think they have the pitching to get it done, but I have very little confidence in this offense in
the postseason right now. They just aren't able to score runs in different ways. It is so dependent
on the home runs, and they just haven't been getting those as much this year.
I'll go back to my point. I'll say it one more time. I pretty much say it every podcast now.
Nothing matters if Olsen, Riley, Ossie, Murphy, Michael Harris don't play like they're capable
of. It doesn't matter what you do at this deadline if those guys don't turn things around.
Right now, I just have very little confidence in those guys getting it done in the postseason.
I think the pitching is good enough, and I think if those guys turn things around,
there's a great chance that the Raids could win a World Series. But I don't have enough confidence
in this group right now to say, give it those final touches. Go out, make that big move to
get a Lubav and put you over the top. This isn't that roster. If Acuna was healthy,
Strider was healthy, I'd say, yeah, let's go over the top here. Let's get a Lubav. Let's get a
Camilo Duval. Let's do that. I just don't think this is the roster that you do that with right
now. With all the injuries they have, and with how poorly the offense has played, I just don't
know that you can justify doing that at this year's deadline. Let me know what you think.
Maybe you disagree. I mean, this isn't a window. You got a chance to win, and this team still has
the talent to get it done, and maybe they just need that extra piece to get them back to that
point. But I just don't feel like this is the year that you go all in. We haven't seen Alex do that,
whether they be in-season, really out-of-season, even with the big trades he's made for Murphy,
for Olsen. I really haven't seen him give up a lot of... A lot of times he's given up his
top prospect. He gave up Justin Henry Malloy for Joe Jimenez. But I just don't feel like this is
the year to do that for the Atlanta Braves. Joe Mee says,
We should just trade for Freddie Dansby and Contreras. I don't want Dansby back to be
quite honest with you at this point. Lauro Bond says,
Yo, Jake, it's shortstop that I can see the Braves trading for is Oswaldo Cabrera.
That's an interesting one I haven't thought about from the Yankees.
Robert says, What, if anyone, do you want the Braves to trade for? Also,
this whole podcast was a back. So maybe you missed it, but go back and give that a listen.
EK Wipes says, Jake, what do you like most about Cam Caminiti?
I really just like the control. If you watch his delivery straight on to right
from behind home plate, it's just a smooth delivery. And that typically,
especially for a young kid, is going to play very well. The mechanics look very sharp. I
think there's certainly some projectability there for him to be a good command pitcher.
And then the stuff, you just expect that to kind of tick up with some more development. So
I feel like there's a very low floor for a high school player. And you don't really talk about
that with high school arms. You're talking about the upside. But I think even with Caminiti,
similar to when they took Murphy and Richie, those were considered low floor high school guys.
And they took off at the big league level. Those guys are now, obviously, after coming back from
Tommy John surgery, we'll see. But those two guys had shot up big time since getting to the
professional level. So I think you can do that even more so with a Caminiti type.
All right. Thank you for joining me today. Let me know your thoughts in the comment section below.
