In a major ruling, U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon on Monday granted former President Donald Trump's request to dismiss his classified documents case. She ruled that the appointment of special counsel Jack Smith was unlawful under the Constitution's Appointments Clause.
The Republican National Convention begins in Milwaukee Monday, where former President Trump is expected to formally accept the Republican nomination for president. The former president said he has rewritten his speech for the convention following Saturday's assassination attempt, and that he will announce his pick for vice president.
