The migration of Yuezhi from Ganshu to Bactria
"#ancient #ancienthistory #barbarian #Yuezhi
The Yuezhi originally lived in what is now Gansu, China, but over centuries, they migrated due to conflicts and persecution by neighboring tribes like the Xiongnu and Wusun. Initially powerful, they eventually faced defeat and were forced to move from Gansu around 162 BCE, eventually settling temporarily in the Ili River Valley. Continued pressure from the Wusun led them to migrate further west, ultimately reaching Bactria by 130 BCE. There, they overthrew local Saka rulers and established themselves, transitioning from a nomadic to a semi-sedentary lifestyle. Over time, they integrated various tribes into their confederation, which evolved into the Kushan Empire, known for its significant influence in Central Asian history."
