Is that your happy dance? Yeah, I'm so excited to be back you guys.
The weather is so amazing today too. The weather's perfect, the views are amazing,
we're in Portugal. It's been a long time coming, we've talked about Portugal for such a long time.
Yes, so over the last seven months we've been in Asia and it just feels so good to be back in
Europe. I'm just so happy right now. Oh, and well, this is not a good thing but I don't know
why I'm smiling about it. They lost my luggage so I got some new clothes. I guess I'm smiling
because I really like the new skirt so it was an excuse to buy a little a new European wardrobe
until they bring me my luggage and then I have way too many clothes but we'll worry about that later.
We've come to this bakery called Pastro for the famous pastel de nata. So this is a famous pastry
that originated here in Portugal. This restaurant has 4.9 stars with like over 5,000 reviews.
The line is wrapped around the building and this thing is packed so
let's see if these are good. Can you hear that crunch?
These are incredible. Flaky, flaky crust. It's egg custard on the inside. It's so smooth,
does not have an eggy taste at all and it's just perfectly lightly sweet and brown and crispy on top.
It's just perfect. It's so good. So you can't start a trip to Europe without having
a cafe of course. So they actually call this a pingo here which we learned just yesterday.
It's just an espresso with a tiny bit of milk. It's the perfect cafe for me.
Thank you. All right we're off the main street now. Where are we heading Sammy?
So we're gonna go back in Europe. We're gonna go climb the bell tower.
This one has a specific name. Torre Clérigos. So it's a 250 year old bell tower and we're gonna
go climb and get views over the city. Sweet. Always down for a good bell tower climb. I know
it was so funny last summer when we did like I don't know six or seven eight countries over
in eastern Europe. Every city we went to we're like oh let's go climb the bell tower. It's like
the first thing we did everywhere we went to get views over the city and now it's kind of like
we're back. We're back. That's what we're gonna go to. Pretty buildings everywhere you look right?
I know. Oh look at this one. I like that one. Not much. Just the energy the vibe of being back in
Europe. Just having our coffee and our pastries and going to see some history. Uh-oh. Big line
and it's eight euros a person. That's like 20 bucks for us to go see the church. Back in Europe
We're finally heading up. I was amazed to get up here. A little claustrophobic. I'm getting dizzy.
Let me put the band on top. Check out these crazy views. And windy from up here. You can see all
of the red roofs. You can see the river. You can see the ocean out there. It's a beautiful day.
Okay we just made it out of the church which was super beautiful. Just a little too hectic
We're on a nice quiet street now which is a nice change of pace. One of the ladies there was so
sweet. She gave us a whole list of places to eat here and drinks and food. We're about to go have
a local sandwich here at this shop.
When I hold you in my arms. I feel like I can do it all baby. When I hold you baby in my arms.
So we're here at the restaurant Razeo. Razeo. What's that? One of those three.
We actually found this place because the very sweet lady working at the church we just left
said you have to go here for the local sandwich. The sandwich is called
Francina. Francicina. Francicina. Francicina. Francicina. No? I think so. I'm trying you guys.
Francicina. Francicina. See she was wrong too you guys. And we got our first local beer. It's
called Superbok. It's like a light beer. Perfect for these sunny days. I saw a bunch of locals
drinking it. Hanging out. Let's try it out. Very easy. Perfect like light lager. One of my favorite
things about being back in Europe is they serve you olives and fresh sourdough bread. Two of my
favorite things. So we're a little surprised that we actually got a table here. It's a super popular
place that you usually need reservations for. It's such a cool rustic place. There's actually
two levels. So we're on top. They have like these two balconies. It's such a cool setting. There's
a gorgeous bar and it's very packed. Hopefully pretty amazing. So a little top tip for you guys
especially if you're American like us. Europeans usually take their time with meals like over a
few hours. So our first day here we were walking into another shop. Like you have a reservation?
We're like oh no sorry. It's like oh okay sorry. I'm like but we're American. So we eat super fast
and then it always makes them laugh and she's like oh sit down. And Sammy did it today to get
to this place. So you can get the typical sandwich with an egg and without. I heard getting it without
is the more like traditional way. We actually ordered ours without but we got the surprise
egg on top. Wow this sandwich is so much different than I thought it was going to be. It's like
soaked in this beer sauce. Look how cheesy it looks too. All right first bite.
This sandwich is fantastic. It kind of reminds me of like an elevated grilled cheese soaked in
tomato soup with some spice but it's filled with a bunch of good meat too. This is so delicious.
We ordered another Portuguese dish. It's called pica pau. So it's basically a beef and sausage
stewed in like a beer sauce or a wine sauce and it has garlic, mustard, and pickles. Those are
like three of my favorite things so hop in and out and be good. Okay you're gonna love that. And we
didn't even know about this dish. Actually the table right next to us suggested that we order
that one. It's like a roasted sausage good and like a stewy sauce with some is this like pickled
carrots on top? That's a good bite. All the meats are stewed in this really nice gravy
and then you get those super super sour pickly veggies on top. Such a great combination. This
is so much food. We're like carbo loading before our wine tour. I guess that's what you're supposed
to do right? All right let's eat. Wow what a delicious but super filling meal. Such a cool
place to have lunch at and the staff was so wonderful. So thank you guys. I think we are
fully loaded up and ready to go on a wine tasting.
Well it's always so exciting being back in Europe and especially our first time in Portugal.
It's always just a little bit hectic and confusing when we first arrive to a new place.
It's a little bit hard to orient ourselves, figuring out public transportation, finding
good restaurants, even learning like a few basic phrases without fast and reliable data which is
why we're so excited to be partnering with Olafly on today's video. Olafly is an eSIM company which
gives us instant access to data so we were able to purchase our plan before we arrived and whenever
we landed we were able to activate it which gave us access to unlimited data which made it very
easy to call an Uber to our hotel. Having an eSIM makes it super convenient to connect to data. We
never have to worry about wasting our valuable vacation time finding a store or waiting in line
to buy that physical SIM card. We use ours every single day to find the best restaurants, get our
morning coffee fix and you guys know we are terrible with learning new languages and pronunciation so
having access to Google Translate is crucial for us to be able to communicate.
It's so affordable and since they have plants in over 180 countries we got their Europe plants
we're going to be traveling around Europe for the next two months and we're covered in 32 countries
with unlimited data so if you're interested in fast and reliable data we're going to leave a
link in the description box below and you can use our code SAMIANDTOMMY for 5% off your next eSIM.
So we just walk on the boardwalk here and walk across this restaurant with these amazing views
we gotta stop. I got a local gin, Sammy got a white wine. Cheers you guys!
So
heading to our wine tour now and we're just walking across the famous bridge here in Porto.
This bridge was designed by Gustave Eiffel. I think we all know who that is. Who is it? The guy who
designed the Eiffel Tower. Oh look at you, spitting facts. Spitting facts. Anyway the view is great, the water's like
glistening blue and we're heading to our wine tour. So I gotta say I think I enjoyed the views from the
bridge much more than the bell tower or church. Way less people, you can move around freely and the
views of the river from both sides is pretty spectacular. Okay we just started our tour we met
our tour guide Ricardo which is quite the character. I think it's the best intro for a
tour we ever had. If you are drunk in the end of the tour let me be honest that's amazing. You are
drunk means that you like the wine so you are happy because you like the wine. I'm happy because you
are happy so in the end of the tour please be drunk. Don't be ashamed of being drunk. He said
you will get drunk. We're having 10 glasses of Porto wine which is kind of crazy right? Yeah I had
one glass of wine the other day and I was like so we'll see what happens. She was in trouble so
10. I'm not sure if we're gonna be able to do the last things in this video. We'll see what happens.
The Porto wine it's a little bit like champagne. If the grapes were produced on the Douro Valley
it is a Porto wine. If the grapes were not produced there it's not a Porto wine
but it's what we call fortified wine. So smell the wine, keep it in our mouth and then drink the
He's had our first taster. I'm super surprised that I expected it to be very sweet and sugary
and this is not at all. I actually love this. It's like very dry. Everything that we do around this
place and on the Douro Valley everything is 100% natural. What a great first stop. I'm super
surprised. I was expecting very sweet wines but the red was just a table wine. Very dry. It was perfect
and even the white port was very dry as well. My favorite. The next stop is supposed to be
super sweet so not sure if I'm gonna like it as much as the first winery we went to.
Every single time that you are that you want to buy a bottle of Porto wine you always have to look
for this thing right here. So it's called Porto wine. Port because of the city of Porto. It's not
produced in the city of Porto. It was not created by people from Porto and it does not age in the
city of Porto. So why it's called Port wine? Good question. I have no idea but it's a very nice name.
Cheers. This is supposed to be a sweeter white port. Look at the color. It's so pretty.
A little bit sweet for me but it has great flavor. It's actually really good.
I was scared it's gonna be more like dessert wines here but it's not quite at that level.
It's still pretty easy. Yeah, I'm turning red now.
I just picked up my water glass and smelled it and I'm always picking up my water glass.
Uh-oh. Uh-oh.
I don't like it.
It has notes of air.
Okay, what are you tasting?
I don't know. Berries?
I'm tasting berries.
It's got me off.
So far I've been pleasantly surprised. Nothing's been overly sweet. All the wines have been so
delicious and our guide is super hilarious but also very informative, super entertaining.
What a great tour. If you guys are interested in doing this tour we're gonna leave a link to the
Get Your Guide which we did. Super easy. You can book it on your phone. You just show up to the
meeting spot. It's already paid for. Everything is taken care of for you. Makes it super easy.
Can't recommend it enough. Remember that rosé, it's not for girls. Rosé, it's for everyone.
Now that you know this, let's go inside. So first step, rise your glass and swirl it like this.
Guys, the most important one, the sip part. Put the wine inside of your mouth. Let the wine touch
every part, especially your tongue and the under part of it. Do some noises if you want like
Okay, we'll help a little bit because the air will just enter inside of your mouth. I will not
be doing that. Don't be shy. I'm doing it right now. Come on, let's go.
Grapes, fruits, more. Strawberry. Strawberry, more. We have all these more. I can't be trusted.
Cheers. One of our last two wine tastings. This one is super sweet. This is the only one I'm not
a huge fan of so far out of all the eight other wines. It's a little syrupy. Has like a caramel
taste. Everything else has been so amazing though.
Wow, what a fun tour. It was so interesting learning about all the different types of
wine here in Porto. Did you have a good time? Yeah. Fun fact I learned was they drink more
wine per capita here than anywhere else in the world and because all the locals drink wine they
make the wine very affordable so the wine here is affordable for everyone. That's a fun fact right?
It is. That was a fun tour. I drank way too much wine. We're gonna try to walk around the city,
see a few more of the sights before we call it a day. We're gonna try to walk home some of this wine.
Welcome to Casa do Arquiteto. So this is the beautiful townhouse that we're staying in while
we're here in Porto. It's really interesting because the famous architect that designed this
place actually grew up here whenever he was a child and then he went to architect school,
won a bunch of awards and then he came back and redesigned this place and now it hosts people
here in Porto. There are six suites here. Our room is absolutely beautiful. There's so much natural
light and the ceilings are so intricate and detailed. You can tell that there was a lot of
thought and love that was put into this place. We have a nice little sitting area over here and we
also have coffee and tea and water. The best part is we are located right in the heart of the city
so we're not more than 10 minutes away from any of the sites making it the perfect place to stay
while you're here in the city of Porto. Oh and I forgot to tell you guys there's an amazing
breakfast that they serve and I will show you guys the highlights of that now. Wow what a feast
this is for breakfast. There is so much delicious looking food. We have a whole bread basket with
different pastries, fruit cub, yogurt, eggs, bacon, roasted tomatoes, of course coffee, a flat white, orange juice.
It's like too many good options. Okay cheers. Even Sammy has her whole pound of butter.
She's super happy about it. All this amazing food she's like oh look at all the butter I get.
Last time I was like oh let's go look at some blue tile work and he was like what and I was
like the train station has blue tile work. It's so impressive. This is pretty epic actually.
Porto you'll see this blue tile work everywhere you go. It's called
Azuelos. Azuelos. I don't know the Portuguese pronunciation is hard for me but it's this
tile work that's been used for centuries in Portuguese art and architecture. It's
so beautiful. It really adds to the charm of the city and yeah this is a lot more than I was expecting.
What a fantastic first day here in Porto. I feel like we only scratched the surface of the city
drank too much wine, had to wait too much food but what a fun day. Thank you guys for
watching. We appreciate all you guys. Can't wait to show you more here in Portugal.
