Jordan Hicks his seventh year at
the big league level 27 years
of age and he has transitioned
from the bullpen to the starting
rotation this year and he's been
very very good and he doesn't
pitch like a guy who is just out
there trying to put up a high
velocity number which he can do
he pitches like he's a pitcher
Nico Horner climbing in and
ready to go little check swing
one hopper to Strata and that's
how this game gets started.
It's not exactly getting off
your swing frustration for Nico
Cubs overall have been
frustrated they've lost four in
a row and in those four games
that scored just 10 runs.
Got to down in the first.
It's Cody Bellinger now the
giant fans never wasting a
chance to boo a current or
former Dodger to to Bellinger
hits a pop up kind of into no
man's land who's going to take
it it'll be Austin Slater from
left he glides in and makes a
catch and that counts as a very
strong beginning for Jordan
Hicks.
The Cubs go down in order on the
hill today for the Cubs will be
the left hander Shota Imanaga
two point nine sixty eight a
bunch of those Ernie's came in
his last start against the
Mets.
He's got twenty six earned runs
this year and seventeen of them
have come in two starts down the
line.
That one hooking and that one is
foul Ben's foul hundred nine
miles an hour off the bat.
Oh so close back up the middle.
But there is Horner waiting and
throws him out one away.
So one up one down in Elliott
Ramos that's the center field.
PCA is back is there and makes
the catch Wilmer pops it up
shallow right Bellinger in
Horner out.
Bellinger makes the call and the
catch three up three down
nicely done by Shota Imanaga.
No score here at Oracle Park
you say yes Suzuki that is called
strike three.
Got him with the splitter beauty
from Hicks out number one one
cannot walk first base runner in
this game.
No score two down second inning
for Dansby Swanson and Swanson
at two 17 on base to ninety two
strikes one out in the center
field and it's going to fall in
half.
Tried to steal a run.
He made it out on the bases last
night.
He tried to catch the giant
sleeping here.
Ramos flipped it back and fairly
casually to Tyrone Strata but he
hit quickly and Tyrone wheeled
around through home and the
Giants got him.
So that's how the side is
retired.
Eight nine one.
He see a T-Dog in Horner.
Oh that's inside and it clipped
him and one of the fastest
players in the majors is on base.
There goes the runner pitches a
strike throw to second tag say
and PCA has swiped another.
He's a perfect 14 for 14.
It's so explosive.
There goes Crow Armstrong
swinging a miss throw to third
head first slide safe good
throw by Casale but a huge jump
by Crow Armstrong as Nito swung
and missed for strike three in
field and there's no score.
Nico Horner with a chance to
give the Cubs the lead deep
drive to left back goes Slater
near the wall.
That ball is gone to run Homer
Nico Horner Cubs lead two to
nothing.
Well he had had one extra base
hit in his last 19 games and the
Cubs get some thought from the
top spot to zip.
Nico goes yard Cubs lead two to
nothing.
Cody Bellinger with two down and
nobody on bouncing ball to third
Bobo by Chapman.
He got caught in between hops
had to back up and on the short
hop that ball ate him up.
It's a base hit for Cody
Bellinger.
And I like that call by the
third score say Suzuki batting
Bellinger not running this ball
is hit in the air to right going
back now as Matos it's over his
head bouncing away a run is
going to score Bellinger around
third scoring hot footing it to
third is Sega Suzuki with what I
believe will be ruled a triple
Matos misjudged that ball in
right again the ball carries
better in the daytime here than
it does at night and Matos
misjudged that ball.
It bounced over his head and hit
that angled brick wall and
bounced about 30 feet away from
him.
And when it did you knew the
Cubs would get a run even Naga
being forced to work to begin
the third a great eleven pitch
walk from Ahmed in a blind crisp
line drive up the middle by
Casale that's bounced towards
third Morrell steps on third
throw to first out the Giants a
look at it that's going to be
overturned.
It's a good time to challenge
you're down three nothing.
You've got the heart of the
order coming up chance to put an
ending together after a call on
the field is overturned.
Runner is safe almost a double
play but now one away first and
second.
Elian Ramos now swinging him a
strike three got him on a high
fastball for Seymour kind of
cutting in on him a little bit
out number two Wilmer Flores
coming up this one popped up
right side Bush and Horner
Horner and Bush Horner has it.
And even Naga allows the first
two to reach and then pitches
out of the jam and a three three
nothing.
So I think in all likelihood
this is probably going to be the
final inning for Jordan Hicks.
Well I mean they are managing
him they may want him to stay in
the rotation but remember the
most innings he's ever heard in
the year seventy five.
Did he go.
Yes he did.
Strike three.
So Hicks finishes five for the
Giants today but the Giants
offense needs to get to work
now.
The Giants half of the sixth
inning.
Here we'll leave things up
Slater in the left field lead
off single for Austin Slater.
And that's exactly what you want
to see.
The second hit for the Giants
here this afternoon Casale with
a single back in the third
Naga pitch count in great shape
at sixty eight Chapman in the
right field.
That's another hit for the
Giants.
Slater will go to second and
stop there in this dangerous
spot right here because a three
nothing lead and the tying run
at the plate.
Now Solaire chance for the
Giants to get on the board here
Solaire to left center hit well
and it is one hop over the wall.
Slater is in.
That's a bad break for the
Giants.
So there will go to second but
Chapman was going to score if
that stays in play.
It is three to one and that
didn't even get the sweet spot
that was up the bat a little bit
gives you an idea how strong he
is.
Does it get completely extended.
He still one hops the wall.
Now the Giants have run in with
two outs and a chance to tie the
game with a base hit to the
outfield down and in it goes to
the backstop.
Chapman will score on a wild
pitch.
Solaire goes to third.
It's a one run game.
That pitch was not close to its
intended target little squibber
not going to be easy.
That is going to tie the game.
Solaire comes home a little
little ground ball that split
Bush and Horner.
And you can see with Matos going
down the line he was going to
beat it out.
The exit velocity thirty six
miles per hour.
That is amazing.
Horner's at second Bush at first
a three three game or in the
seven Bellinger strikes out
swinging ninety seven mile an
hour fastball.
He got him to a two hour rally
early for the Cubs a hit a
steal a walk but no runs.
Now it's up to Dansby to try to
come through two outs three
three game or in the eighth to
go ahead run 90 feet away.
Got him.
He tried to hold up and Dansby
Swanson couldn't do it.
The lead off double and the Cubs
do not score.
Now the go ahead run is at third
base for Jorge Solaire.
It gives you some extra ways to
score the go ahead run.
Solaire hit a double into the
gap to drive in a run in the
sixth inning swing and a miss
strike three.
What a job by Tyson Miller
striking out Jorge Solaire with
the go ahead run at third base
three three bottom nine two outs
Hector Neri's Patrick Bailey has
been their best player in a two
eighty five and that one in
there called strike three is
gone.
One two three we're going to go
extra innings Bellinger out
there at second.
So here's half now in old for
two couple of walks in the air
center field pretty well struck
Ramos back at the track turning
in Apple touch them all.
And here in the tent it's five
three Cubs is ten.
Boy that's a huge swing in the
bat for me and half like about
the need to put multiples up in
these extra inning games and he
delivers.
Oh boy exhale and now to be left
up to Wilmer Flores Porter Hodge
giving up the blue single to put
to a board but he's got the next
two or is all for four.
This is playable near the mound.
Hodge calls for it and Bodie
comes over and makes the catch.
The Cubs win the ballgame.
I thought they were going to
collide for a moment.
Hodge was calling Bodie came in
and called him off.
It was one of those games run.
He didn't really expect the last
out to be easy did you.
