Little Deru once had a happy family. Dad is the kindest person in the world. The family practiced Falun Dafa and was happy. Relatives and friends all practiced Falun Dafa. Everyone was happy and peaceful.
In 1999, the CCP launched an inhumane persecution. In 2002, Deru's father was persecuted to death in Guangzhou because he persisted in practicing Falun Dafa.
For Deru's sake, they left their hometown and fled to the United States via Thailand. In 2009, they were interviewed by The Stories of Life for the first time to tell people the truth about the persecution.
In 2013, Deru joined Shen Yun, a world premier arts group. She began to tell people the truth about Falun Gong in a new way.
Hi, nice to meet you again.
Lin Qian, DeRu,
when you dance on the stage,
what's in your mind?
When I'm performing on stage,
usually I just stay calm and focused.
But behind all of this,
there's a mission behind what we do.
Basically, we want to tell the audience members that
truthfulness, compassion, and tolerance is good.
There's this persecution going on in China right now.
We all believe that we have the sense of duty to stop it.
That's why we are performing.
Every year, basically,
Qian Yun delegates this special contemporary piece
that showcases what's going on in China right now
with Falun Dafa practitioners,
how we're being organ harvested,
how we are facing a lot of brutality.
We just want to tell the audience members that this is real
and it's happening in China right now still,
and we want to stop it.
And for myself personally,
Qian Yun touched me on a personal level
because I'm basically a victim
of this whole entire persecution
because I lost my father
due to the persecution when I was four.
And before that,
both of my parents had high-paying jobs in China.
We were pretty well off.
We wouldn't think of coming to America,
but the persecution of Falun Gong changed everything.
So in the end, me and my mom,
we had to fled to Thailand
and later come to America as a result.
And I just felt like my dad,
all he wanted to do was basically tell the Chinese government
that Falun Gong is good,
truthfulness, compassion, and tolerance is good,
but he couldn't.
And all I wanted to do was basically continue his wish
of telling people
truthfulness, compassion, and tolerance is good.
This is actually a very interesting question
because I have been dancing for 11 years
and the more I learn about classical Chinese dance,
the more I realize that it's very, very profound.
Because Chinese classical dance
is part of ancient Chinese culture.
And I realized that it's basically intertwined
with one's morality.
And in order to be good at classical Chinese dance,
you have to be a very good person yourself.
And you have to learn to be a more moral person.
There's this very special trait in classical Chinese dance
called Shen Yun, which is bearing.
It's like a showcase of your inner spiritual realm.
So you have to cultivate your inner self
if you want to dance well in classical Chinese dance.
How do you feel about being in Shen Yun?
It's pretty fun and challenging, actually.
This whole entire environment,
like Shen Yun's environment
is because dance is a competitive career,
but then we have a very friendly environment.
So everybody is trying to help each other out.
We all want to improve at the same time.
Shen Yun taught me how to be a more grateful person.
And I want to thank Master
and thank Shen Yun to bring me up
to become a more righteous person.
Does your mother support you?
Yeah, she supports me so much.
I'm very proud of my mom
because when I first started dancing,
I always called back home,
I'm like, mom, it's too hard.
And my mom always said,
she's always like, you have to continue to persevere.
What do you want to tell your audience?
I want to tell the audience member
to hold on to the goodness
and hold on to your faith
because in the end, that's what's most important.
For myself, because my dad was persecuted by CCP,
all he wanted to do was tell the Chinese government
that Falun Dafa is good,
that truthfulness, compassion and tolerance is good.
He showed that the government can take away someone's job,
they can take away someone's family,
but they can't take away your faith.
I think my dad's courage changed my life
and it's still instilled in me a sense of duty
that I want to tell the whole entire world
that truthfulness, compassion and tolerance is good.
Thank you, Lin Qian.
Thank you, Deru.
I saw my dad being taken away by the police
I was locked up in the brain washing room at that time.
I didn't even know.
So your dad didn't come back at that time?
Did you say your teacher expelled you
even though you get the best grades in school?
My little lotus flower, crying
Lotus flower, it's not wrong to tell the truth
or to be kind
Lotus flower, how can I stand by silent?
Your life's on the line
Child, I will take you in
Child, I will bring you home
Happiness back to you
No more you'll suffer alone
Child, we will take you in
Child, we will bring you home
Be a flower that sees the spring
Soon a dove flying high over the storm
Soon a dove high over the storm
