【Classical music and nature 古典音樂小站】Jacob Obrecht: Rompeltier (For 4 Clarinets - Hughes). This beautiful piece was played by Matthew Hughes. It has Creative Commons license (CC BY 3.0 DEED Attribution 3.0 Unported) and is provided through www.musopen.org.

Jacob Obrecht was a Franco-Flemish composer, singer and cleric of the Renaissance and was unanimously counted among the great masters by the music theorists of his time. His superior mastery of musical techniques, his productivity, his sense of balance and clarity and his "subtilitas" were unanimously praised. Heinrich Glarean reported that the composer once wrote a complete mass in a single night. He is said to have been able to compose very fluently, which puts a complete mass in one night into the realm of the possible.

"Rompeltier" (for four voices) is a song or dance melody. It was disseminated in various texts in both Flemish and German sources of the 15th and 16th centuries. According to these, it is said to have been composed in 1501.

We spotted the chamois when we were travelling towards the Susten Pass in Switzerland. Wild chamois are shy and I was glad that they didn't run away as soon as we approached to film them with the telephoto lens. Anything else would not have been possible.

The music fits very well here, precisely because it is dance music and not hunting music. What do you think? Let us know in the comments!

The chamois were filmed by Simone Schlegel and the video was edited by Wenjing Ma.
