Hey guys, welcome back.
Today's video we're gonna paint this large seascape slash cloud painting.
So we're grabbing a set of three colors, you can see here.
And start to mix the colors for the background.
The first layer of color.
In this case, also the final layer of color.
And the brightest color we start on the right side.
And start already to kind of leave out the area for the clouds.
That we're gonna put in later on.
Also make sure you paint around the edges.
Yeah, very straight forward process.
More or less.
This video here is available as a full time tutorial on my Patreon.
Link is somewhere down below here.
With I think over 70 other videos meanwhile.
And two new videos each month.
So make sure to check this out here.
Yeah, the difficult part here is more or less.
Just to make sure that you have a very nice transition between those colors here.
See I'm using a very big brush here.
Two inch one.
And then I start to mix the colors for the beach area.
The brushes I'm gonna use here.
And it's kind of a very easy process of mixing some base colors you can see here.
Just two colors for the water part.
And some different brown and sand color.
And base colors for the front area.
I already start to add in some smaller details.
So that's the color for the water part here.
It looks very basic, very easy.
And that's what it is more or less.
Just setting in the base colors in those areas.
Making sure we have the base color right.
The mid tone value.
And adding some blue colors for the rest of the cloud area.
Beneath those clouds.
Then we go back.
Let the whole thing dry.
And start to mix the colors for the clouds.
And you've seen on the preview that the clouds on the right side kind of emerge from the lighter color in the back.
And this is what we apply here now.
The dry brush technique.
Basically grabbing a very small amount of color on the brush.
And rubbing this color into the canvas structure.
And you can basically do this as often as you want to.
To really get the colors right.
The way you want to have them.
And then I go in and start to build up those cloud areas themselves.
And this is not too easy.
Because you need to make sure that the colors on the edge are thick enough to really give the clouds the shape that you have in mind.
As you can see here.
I basically reshaped them partially.
As you can see here.
Standing them a little bit on the upper side.
And going back.
Adding those darker areas here and there.
While using different brushes.
As you can see here.
The brush with the whiter color for the white areas of the clouds.
And some brushes with the darker color on.
The best advice is to really use for each single color one single brush.
So that you don't mix up the colors too strong, too heavily on the brush itself.
And then I grab a smaller brush.
A small soft round brush.
And start to build up those very fine details.
On these cloud areas.
As you can see here.
We have the light coming in from the right side.
And we have the light kind of illuminating the areas on the upper part.
Where we have imagined clouds to be round objects more or less.
And of course they are not round.
Not completely overall round.
But they have volume.
This is something that we now put in more or less.
This very fine brush here.
I also start to add cloud details over the still wet blue underpainting.
When you don't apply the darker blue color too thick.
You can really easily adjust those colors.
And add some more cloud details here and there.
And on the lower end we need to get darker.
And I already apply here again the dry brush technique.
Kind of letting the color on the brush fade out.
And cover with the rest of the color we have on the brush.
The first layer of color that we have put in before.
We also have some areas here where we have lighter colors.
As the sun shining through.
And therefore we have to adjust the thickness of the color that we apply.
With this dry brush technique.
Here and there.
I'm not extending the clouds.
I'm adding again some background for the clouds.
Some fading out areas.
This is done in a very simple way again.
I'm dry brushing.
Letting the colors fade out into the background.
First I'm using a smaller brush.
To put in the colors where they belong.
And then I grab a bigger brush.
As you can see here.
With no color on.
And start to let those colors fade out.
Kind of dry brush them into the background color.
That is still dry of course.
With this very simple technique.
You can kind of let those clouds fade out.
Into the background.
This is a very.
I think an easier way to do it.
Than trying to get those clouds in the first sitting.
In the right way.
This way it's really easier.
Because you can kind of readjust.
Fine adjust those areas.
In a much more controlled way.
And the same goes for the lower end of the clouds here.
As you can see.
We readjust the darker colors.
More or less.
And start to make them a bit darker.
Add some a bit more raw sienna.
A bit more.
Yeah.
Glam black and so on.
To really have those.
Clouds coming more to the foreground.
And yeah.
It's a fine balance between those colors.
You can see here.
The cloud that kind of fades into the background.
Here we are.
Yeah.
And now we start to build up those.
Yeah.
Towering mountains.
Clouds.
And again.
Clouds need the volume.
And on these clouds not that much.
They are not that extremely different color wise.
But still you need those little extensions.
Those little fine little details.
That need to be random.
And yeah.
See here.
All kinds of different extensions.
That leave the cloud more or less.
And adding those darker colors here and there.
To really make sure that we flesh out the cloud.
Like a portrait.
Like a kind of an apple or a tomato.
Whatever.
To really make it look 3D.
And I grab another set of brushes here.
As you can see.
It's a special brush.
Very old ragged stiff brush.
That I.
Yeah.
Kind of shortened the hair.
On one side.
To really be able to.
To stipple on.
Very fine marks of color.
And.
In a very quick way.
And this is done.
Yeah.
With this very hard.
And.
Regular old brush.
And.
Yeah.
This is much easier.
And saves much more time.
Than when you try to.
Yeah.
Put on every single dot of color.
With a.
Very fine brush.
I'm using another special tool.
Kind of a.
Thin down.
Um.
Detail brush for.
Yeah.
Bushes and stuff.
And here I'm already.
Building up the.
Little rock details that we have here.
And this.
Done in a very simple way.
By.
Adding those.
Dark.
Those lighter colors first.
And then I.
When I know.
Where those rocks are located.
I just.
Add some.
Shadow areas.
On the left side.
Obvious.
As the.
Shadow is coming in.
From the.
As the light is coming.
From the right side.
I mean.
Of course.
You have.
Somewhere.
Some even smaller details.
That you.
Need to put in.
With a.
Very fine.
Soft.
Round brush here.
Yeah.
So.
Gradually.
And.
Very slowly.
Build up.
Those details here.
And when I'm done.
With the rock part.
I start to.
Yeah.
Build up.
Those.
Um.
Water details.
Basically.
Using the.
First layer of color.
As kind of a.
Base level.
Color.
More or less.
Just adding in.
Those.
Um.
Yeah.
Areas.
Where the sun.
Is not hitting.
Where we have the.
Shadow areas.
Those bluer colors.
And.
Yeah.
Trying to really.
Get in those.
Very fine.
Details.
Adjusting them here and there.
Um.
Getting lighter.
Getting darker.
Using really.
A small brush.
And.
This brush.
Kind of.
In a.
Fading out way.
By.
Sharpening it.
On the.
On the palette.
Um.
Making it flat.
So that we have a very.
Even more.
Knife like.
Shape of the brush.
And here.
I'm building up.
Those.
The.
Yeah.
Center.
Detail.
Wave part here.
This.
Breaker.
And you see we have this.
Very dark color.
Shadow areas.
We have this.
Lighter blue color.
Um.
Kind of.
Yeah.
Representing the.
Of the white water part.
That is in the shadow areas.
And.
Some areas of the water.
Where.
The water is very thin.
Uh.
Being very greenish.
Looking.
And this.
If you do this right.
Uh.
You end up with a.
Very nice looking.
Yeah.
Breaker.
Kind of.
Yeah.
See.
It's a.
I mean it's a very large painting.
No.
Not very large but.
Large one.
Fifty by hundred.
It all.
It needs all those.
Very fine little details.
Yeah.
Let's see another finished.
Painting.
So.
That's about it for today.

That like button.
