In today's guided exercise, you're going to explore your relationship to trust.
While these exercises are meant to be gentle, they can sometimes bring up intense feelings and
emotions. So if this exercise feels too intense or triggering at any point,
please feel free to opt out and come back at another time if you wish.
Before we get started, grab a pen and paper or open a page to type in your computer.
So let's get started. Take a moment to find a comfortable seat
and gently close your eyes if that's comfortable for you,
allowing yourself to focus on the breath, watching it flow all the way in and all the way back out,
just being with what's here, not trying to change anything.
Notice what it feels like to be present in your body today. Are there any sensations or emotions,
any circulating thoughts? Again, we're just observing, just noticing what's here.
What thoughts are here today? Are you finding it easy to focus or is it somewhat difficult?
And so we're just taking an inventory, just gathering data on what it's like to be us today.
There's no right or wrong and we're going to do a little experiment.
So as you're ready, I'm going to say a few words and I want you to notice any sensations or
emotions that come up. And when you hear them, I don't want you to imagine that they're coming
from me, but rather that you're just hearing the words more generally. So notice what happens
inside of you when you hear the words, I trust you. I trust you. And I'll say it again.
So noticing what happens when you hear the words, I trust you. I trust you.
So before we move on, see if you can make a mental note while staying in a mindful state
of whatever came up, or if it's helpful, you can jot down a word or two in your journal or
in the page that you opened on your computer. So as much as you can stay in that state of
mindfulness and take a moment to make a note. And as you're ready, whatever came up,
let's let it go, melting into the ground beneath us. And we're going to do this experiment one more
time. But it'll be a little different this time. So I'm going to say those words again.
But when I do, I want you to repeat them to yourself. And again, as you repeat them to yourself,
remember to notice any physical responses in the body, or any emotions that come up.
So notice what happens when you tell yourself these words. I trust you. I trust you. You can
repeat it to yourself a few times in your head, really letting the words sink in. Take your time
here. And again, as you're ready, make any mental notes while staying in a state of mindfulness,
or jot down a word or two. Notice how this experience was different from the first experiment.
Coming back to the breath, let any thoughts or feelings melt down into the ground.
Coming back to that place of neutrality. Remember that there's no right or wrong.
This is just a guided study and self-exploration. And it's going to be different for everyone.
It might even be different for you next time you do the exercise. And I want you to consider
which statement felt more pleasant, and which felt more uncomfortable. It might be an indicator
in which area of your life that you need to strengthen. If hearing someone else say,
I trust you, made you feel more insecure, or scared, or triggered,
there might be some opportunity to work on trust with others. While if saying I trust you to
yourself felt more uncomfortable, it might indicate an area to strengthen in your relationship with
yourself. It might have also given you a tool. Maybe you didn't realize that you trust yourself.
And so now when you feel insecure, you can remind yourself of that,
and take that tool with you, and use it in situations where you don't feel so secure.
So please share what came up with you in the comments below. And thank you for listening.
