My friends, I hope you all are doing well. Welcome to this episode of the Outdoor Gear Review where
we have returned to the green forest. It has been a really long time since we've been to this part
of the green forest. We've been around this mountain but not back to this side in a really
long time. It is beautiful as always and I tell you I'm glad to see that there's a ton of firewood
here. At the same time, a lot of it is dry. That is really surprising considering how much rain
we've been receiving recently. One of the reasons why everything is so dry, that's because of the
wind. It is quite breezy today and it looks like it's been that way for a while. The ground is
covered in all sorts of debris and you can tell that it's been really windy lately. Before it gets
much later everybody, I'm going to go ahead and set up my tent. That way we can have that job out
Finding a site here for my tent, that is going to be difficult because the ground is not level.
It's covered in rocks and roots so I will have to walk around a little bit.
with me that is very similar to the Light Fighter one-person tent. There are some differences and
in the future I'll talk about those. This tent runs around $100 and for $100 I'm very
impressed with the quality so far. Testing this out tonight is going to be very interesting.
Alright everybody, well we have the tent set up. That's good. It's already about seven o'clock.
It will be sundown in about an hour and a half. With that being said though,
it's already pretty dark and that's because we have full cloud cover. Later on tonight,
there is a chance for rain. It's pretty slight. It's about 20%. I'm torn everyone. I've thought
about putting up a tarp. I cannot put it up over my tent. There's just no way to make that work.
I was just barely able to find this spot here amongst these trees for this tent. I could take
a tarp and put it up over here but the question is, will I need it? Am I willing to gamble on it?
I think for the time being, I'm not going to put up a tarp. If I feel like I need to later on,
I will but as it stands right now, I'm going to gamble it. We'll see what happens. I'll tell you
what. It is getting late but I still want some coffee so let's make some real quick.
It is without a doubt getting very, very windy. At the same time, the temperature is dropping.
According to my watch here, it says 66 degrees but that's not accurate. That's for like around
3,000 feet. We're up here around 6,000 feet so right now it's probably about 54 degrees.
It is chilly and it feels incredible. How well can you all see? That's a good question.
It is getting rather dark. Let me get some light going and we'll do some talking here in a second.
Maybe that will help. There's two things that cameras don't like,
wind and low light. If that can help you all see better, then great. Again, it is pretty dark for
only being 7 30. Officially, the sun goes down at 8 38 and the sun comes up tomorrow at 6 o'clock.
Let's take a second here and let's talk about this tent real quick.
Let's go back roughly three months ago, two months ago, something like that. I've begun
receiving messages and emails about this tent. A tent from a company known as Free Soldier.
People were asking whether or not it's any good. Shortly after I began receiving messages,
guess who I heard from? I heard from Free Soldier asking me if I wanted to take a look at this tent.
Is that a coincidence or is that manipulation? Honestly, I do not know. Hopefully, it's not
manipulation, but you never can tell. Considering all of the messages that I received and hearing
from the company, I went ahead and I agreed to take a look at this tent for an honest review.
Folks, you know how I am. I'll be honest about it. The tent arrived two months later. It took
forever for this thing to show up. What interested me about it was the fact that it looked very much
similar to the Light Fighter one-person military tent. I mentioned earlier that this is an
inexpensive military tent. I misworded that. This is a tactical style tent. This is not an
official military tent of any sort. So I've set it up. I am fairly impressed with the quality.
Everything looks good. The materials feel good. They are cheap though. This is a tent made from
a polyester material. It's worth, in my opinion, about a hundred bucks. For a hundred dollars
though, I have seen tents that look far worse than this. I'm going to save my thoughts concerning
this tent for the preview, but as it stands right now, this is not terrible. It is small,
but it's not terrible. It will be interesting to see what our experiences are with this tent
tonight. You just never know. The biggest question is whether or not it's going to rain. Is it going
to rain? I simply do not know. The chance for later on tonight, it's around 20-30%, something
like that. Tomorrow, it's about 70%. So we shall see. It's up in the air. All I know is that it's
nice to be out here in the forest with these cool temperatures. We have some warm coffee.
Bison Beer Black Bean Chili. Seriously, folks, this is so incredibly good. Oh yeah.
It's also just a little bit spicy. And also, this bag here is like obnoxiously tall.
I mean, it is almost as tall as this spoon is. Actually, it is.
I mentioned in last week's adventure that I was going out of town for a couple of days. We went
down to the beach and we saw our son, Lucas, and we had an awesome time. We really did.
Ate some good food, had some drinks. It was great.
In last week's adventure, I also spoke of a bar that I like to go to. They have these
really powerful drinks. Did we go? Yes. Did I black out? No. Did I fall asleep on the floor?
Maybe. Susie said that I did. She said that I was trying to help her make the bed and I just like
plopped on it. But then I just rolled off to the side, off of the bed, onto the floor,
and just went to sleep. There's no pictures, so I say it didn't happen. If you don't have proof,
it didn't happen. She does have a picture of me passed out on the couch in the most
uncomfortable, awkward position I think I've ever seen. My back is completely flat on the
cushion, which means the rest of my body is hanging off in some weird way. I don't know.
I'm not sure what was going on there. But we really did have a good time. And no, I don't
want to drink again for another six months. One and done. Or every six months and done. Whatever.
I'll tell you what, everybody. I'm going to finish this up, then we'll get the fire going.
the south blowing all of the heat away from us. I can sit right next to it. Nice and toasty warm.
At the same time, my tent is protected. You will notice oftentimes that I do not have a fire close
to my tent. And that's because unless you can control the direction of the wind, you don't do
that. You don't take any chances with burning a hole in your tent, because that's your shelter.
That's your safety. In this situation, though, it's perfect. For a second there, I thought I heard rain.
I don't think I did, though. Hmm. Yeah, this is nice, everybody. This really is the perfect spring
evening. I mean, temperatures in the 50s, you can't beat that. It really is nice to be out
here in this forest. I mean, it's been almost a year since I've been out here, I believe. It's
been a long time. It is just so peaceful and quiet out here. I just love it. I love hearing nothing
more than just the wind. That's it. We have the wind and the fire. That's it, actually.
Now, speaking of the fire here, when I was processing the firewood, every once in a while,
you will notice that I take some wood and I break it over my knee. That is completely safe. You
don't have to worry about injuring yourself or anything like that. In fact, I'm not even sure
how you could injure yourself outside of doing something ridiculous, trying to break a log over
your knee. The only reason I bring this up is because every once in a while, I'll receive a
message from someone saying, that's dangerous. The thing is, it's not. What you're doing is
bending a piece of wood over your knee. Because of physics, everything is going to splinter away
from you, so you don't have to worry about injuring yourself. I mean, you will know when
you're trying to break something that's too hard or too thick. You're going to say to yourself,
that doesn't feel good, and you're going to stop. Mankind has been breaking wood over their knee for
of the tent. As far as the time goes, it is 1041. Thank you all so much for joining me for this
trip, everybody. So far, so good. As for the weather, it looks like it could potentially
begin raining here shortly. The forecast says rain after 2 a.m., but there's only a 20% chance,
so we'll see what happens. I did not put up a tarp. I do have one, just in case I need it.
I don't know. We'll see what happens in the morning. It was so nice sitting around that fire.
I sat out there for a long time, just enjoying the heat, especially with how cold and windy it is.
It was really nice. All right, everybody. I'm going to turn in. I may watch a movie. Who knows?
I'm definitely turning the camera off. That much, I do know. So good night for now. I will see you
today? As far as the time goes, it is 645 in the morning, and it is a beautiful morning at that.
Last night, it rained for, I don't know, three or four hours, but really didn't amount to much. It
was super, super light. The tent is just a little bit wet, but it's not bad. I would say more than
anything, it's just chilly this morning. At the same time, somewhat breezy. It is now seven o'clock
in the morning, everybody. That means it is breakfast time, and for breakfast, we have biscuits
That is so incredibly good. When you fry it in a skillet like this,
it gives the gravy like this little bit of a crust on the bottom, and it is really, really good.
I love biscuits and gravy. It seems like everybody's talking about it right now, so
it's been on my mind like every single day. As far as the time goes, it is now 735 in the morning.
Temperature's rising. Feels good. It's cloudy this morning. Supposedly, later on today,
Andrew and Tony, father and son. Hi, guys. Thank you so much for the postcard. Thank you so much
for watching. I appreciate it. John, thank you so much for the extra battery and the sunglasses,
safety glasses. The battery is for a still saw that he sent in. Thank you so much. I use it all
the time. It is awesome. Bobby, thank you so much for the donation to the channel. That is
incredibly generous. Thank you so much. Thank you for making this channel possible and for keeping
it agenda free. Leon and Debbie, their niece made this glass mug for Susie, and it is awesome. It
has llamas on it and her name. It is so cool. Susie loves it. Thank you all so much. Your niece is
very talented. As far as breakfast goes, unfortunately, I'm almost done. Let me tell you,
that was so incredibly good. Breakfast done. Coffee done. It's time to pack up and get out of here.
As far as this tent goes, last night it performed well. I actually had very little condensation
inside of this tent, even though I had it sealed up all night long. As far as the rain testing goes,
it didn't rain hard enough to test this out. It was more than anything just a sprinkle that
lasted all night long. Without a doubt, more testing needs to be done, but so far,
it's a good start. The quality of this is surprisingly good for a hundred bucks.
This adventure is coming to an end. Thank you all very much for joining me for this trip. I really
do appreciate it. It has gotten so dark. I think rain is around the corner, so I'm going to beat
my feet. Take care. Strength and honor. Bye for now.
