《Pomp and Circumstance》
What happened in the last 2-3 hours?
There are many people we knew in the past
or some of your friends that you know
If they don't respond, we will continue to do it
Jenny, why do you think we cannot forget June 4th's Cannon Massacre?
Why do we need to hold this every year?
Well, we're gathered here today to commemorate the brave students
that peacefully protested for a better future in China 35 years ago
and many lost their lives
And in this struggle, the fight continues
We're seeing what's going on in Hong Kong today
In fact, 6 people were arrested
And what were they doing?
Really, they were...
Mr. Yu, you were a participant in June 4th's Cannon Massacre, right?
Yes
Tell us about it
In 1989
June 3rd and 4th
I was a senior student in 1989
I was studying in Guangzhou
at the University of Henan
Where were you at the time of the shooting on June 3rd?
We were at school on the day of the shooting
At school?
Yes
And when we heard the news of the shooting
How did you get the news?
Yes, at that time, the students took to the streets
They took to the streets
and basically went out to protest
I remember some of the students
blocked the light rail
That's basically what happened in Guangzhou
So you think it's been so many years
35 years
You've been doing this unfortunate unemployment
Why is June 4th so important?
It must not be forgotten
And let many people in mainland China
who don't know the truth now
Because the CCP conceals the history and conceals the truth
They don't understand June 4th at all
Why is it so important?
Why is it so important to let everyone know about this history?
Everyone knows that the history of China is a false history
June 4th, in such a short period of time
Basically, it was wiped out on the land of China
June 4th actually represents a large group of people
Their youth, their wishes, their protests
After June 4th, at least many of our classmates
Many of our classmates with us
were treated in various ways
Some were expelled from the party
Fewer people went to jail
Fewer people went to jail in Guangdong
But a lot of people were affected
Because June 4th changed a lot of people
In fact, it changed a generation
Riker, could you tell us
How many years have you attended this commemoration?
Every year?
Actually, I only started in 2019
Before that, I was not really involved in any politics or world news
I was more kind of like
In Cantonese, they say 港豬 or 家豬
Like I just live and go to work
And doesn't really care much
You are from the Oriental Communist Party of Toronto
Yes
You are a post-90s?
Yes
As a post-90s, you are for the 8.9.64 student movement
Including the bloody massacre
How did you learn about it?
In fact, when we were young
In the past, before Xi Jinping
The Internet was not so strict
If you want to know the relevant content
You can actually see it on the Internet
At that time, the domestic Internet still had some
A little bit about the 8.9.64
And the Internet wall at that time was not as strict as it is now
It was just like that
Mr. Hu, could you tell us
Why do you think we can't forget about the 6.4
Why do you want to participate in such a commemoration?
What does it mean?
I believe that
We all saw these on CNN
These things that happened back then
Yes, so we have to remember these things
Unfortunately, China continues to make the same mistakes
Post-90s and post-00s like you
Many young people don't even know about the 6.4
They haven't even heard of the 6.4
Those who have heard of it may also know about it
So in fact, the Communist Party has been concealing the truth for so many years
Concealing the history
In fact, what he is most afraid of is that the people know the truth, right?
Yes
So what do you think, from your point of view
You are a post-90s young man
What do you do
What should you do now
To let more people know about this history
I think as a young anti-communist
I think for me
I think it is to try to put the 6.4
This period of history and truth
Can really spread
Spread out
Were you in China at the time of the 6.4 in 1989?
I remember very clearly
In 1989, I was in the sixth grade of elementary school
Then when the 6.4 came
The news report was very positive
Then the trend turned right away
Then the New Media League began to roll
It was broadcast that the students set fire to the PLA soldiers
Of course, I know now that it was a lie
China has always been deceiving
To cover up the truth
Let us say
We never know the truth
I think the road of democracy for the Chinese people is really very difficult
Thousands of years of feudal slavery
Then when it comes to this new revolution
Finally we have the Republic of China
I can taste the taste of freedom and democracy
For this brief freedom
We sacrificed a lot of people
So we must continue
I hope the younger generation can spread the fire
Can continue to expose the corruption of the CCP
The hidden truth of the CCP
The Chinese people should get up together
Overthrow the CCP
Because if you don't overthrow me
The tragedy will continue
Why did you come here to commemorate the 6.4?
It's a wound
In 1989, there was no so-called failure or success
Just like the Hong Kong students and citizens who stood up during the anti-extradition bill in 2019
Facing students, facing power, students are not silent
I'm afraid I can't hear you here
Can you clap your hands to let me know
Support yourself, support me
Thank you
I know we stand alone
For me
The June 4th history will not be erased
Will not be rewritten
And will not be forgotten
I'm hoping, we are hoping
One day
I'm hoping sooner than that
One day we will have the largest June 4th commemoration in Tiananmen Square
Are you with me?
To Tiananmen Square
That's my duty
Let's never forgive, never forget
And never, never give up
Thank you
My thanks and my gratitude
Indeed
If each one of us
brings one more next year
Just imagine
Wouldn't that be nice?
We will support Hong Kong
We will never forget the June 4th
We will always be together
Fight for democracy all over the world
Thank you
Do we have all of us together
Stronger
On each other's side
That is right
That is where hope comes from
That is exactly where hope comes from
Yes dark clouds are there
Sometimes it might rain
And snow
But we know
There's always blue sky underneath it
And the sun will always come out
So keep hope alive
Yeah we need to give him
A standing ovation ladies and gentlemen
Come on
Yes a standing ovation
For a democracy warrior
This is what faith
In action is about
Hong Kong is ready
To rewrite history
To rewrite the history of June 4th
The word June 4th
They dare not say it
But
This history cannot be ignored
One day
I was walking with Tiananmen
Mother
One of the mothers
Walking on the beach
To tell their people
We must fight
Until our family
Is forgiven
Let this
Be
The
So
We
You
Thank you very much.
Do you still believe that China can achieve democracy,
and that one day Hong Kong people will be free?
I believe that freedom will definitely happen in the whole world.
I don't know how it will happen.
I don't have a crystal ball.
But I think we should keep going.
55 years ago when the students and workers and ordinary citizens
in Beijing demonstrated in Tiananmen Square,
they were standing up for democracy, for human rights,
and an end to corruption.
The workers were marching for independence.
As we commemorate June 4, 1989,
as we remember the Tiananmen Square massacre,
a dark day in history,
a dark day for democracy and human rights.
I've shared with you before that my own political activism
started as a young student in the Tibetan Freedom Movement.
And so I've always felt a kinship,
a deep connection to the students and young people
who were there at the Tiananmen Square.
Students and young people have always been at the forefront of movements.
And those who were at Tiananmen Square refused to accept things as they were
and dared to.
We stand in solidarity with you.
We too will never forget.
Our struggles are tied together.
And so we must continue to work united
so that everyone—Hong Kongers, Chinese people, Tibetans, Uyghurs, Taiwanese—
everyone lives with freedom, with dignity, with human rights.
Thank you.
Say hallelujah.
Say hallelujah to the Lord.
Say hallelujah.
Say hallelujah to the Lord.
We are here.
Thank you.
Please light up our candles.
If you don't have a candle, you can light up your cell phone like we do in Hong Kong.
Happy New Year.
May you have a happy new year.
Thank you.
Happy New Year.
