Gynostema is a leaf that grows in southern China. It's an herbaceous vine. It wasn't really known
well until the 70s when a group of Japanese researchers found that in this one region
in southern China, people were very consistently living to be over 80 and 100 years old. They found
that everyone in this area is drinking a tea made from this leaf just about every single day. They
called it the magical grass and they were attributing their longevity to this herb.
To give us a little bit of context, one of the most famous adaptogens in the world is ginseng.
Pretty much everybody has heard of ginseng. The compounds in ginseng that give it those
adaptability enhancing properties are called ginsenicides. These are a kind of saponin.
Ginseng has 36 different ginsenicides in it. When they looked at gynostema,
they found it had over 100 different saponins. These ones called japonicides, many of which
were very similar both in their structure and their function to the ginsenicide saponins that
you find in ginseng. In fact, gynostema was actually shown to be the plant containing
the most different saponins of any plant ever discovered. Because of this similarity to ginseng,
gynostema is often called ginseng at a tea price or southern ginseng or the seven-leaf ginseng.
It is an incredible adaptogen. If you're a bit tired, ginseng is going to give you more energy,
but it's not a stimulant. At the same time, it's calming, but it's not a sedative. It's
getting you into this great place of being simultaneously peaceful and invigorated,
which is really the ultimate state of being if you ask me.
It also helps to balance the body's immune response, making sure it's not overactive or
underactive because neither one of those would be ideal. You want it in this perfect state of
balance. It's also traditionally a great lung tonic. Modern animal research also suggests that
it may have antihistamine mechanisms and be helping to preserve an open airway.
It's also a digestive aid. It's soothing the stomach, helping with digestion and nutrient
absorption, and helping to protect the stomach lining. It's also supporting healthy liver
function and cardiovascular function and optimizing blood sugar balance, fat metabolism,
and helping to burn fat and build lean muscle. It's not going to cause you to excessively lose
weight. It's not going to cause you to excessively gain weight. It's just getting rid of the weight
you don't want and putting on that good lean muscle that you really want. That's going to
not only help you look better, but also help with your longevity and your health span even
more than your lifespan. It's no surprise that gynostemma is very famous in Asia as a weight
management aid. Gynostemma in just about every area of your health is very, very supportive
and a great, really easy herb to incorporate into your daily life. It actually tastes quite
pleasant. You can make it as a tea. It's something that you can drink on its own,
or you can use it as the base of something that you're going to add other herbs to. It's a great
base for an excellent herbal elixir. You could use it as the base and add some of our elixir
blends to it. There's so many ways that you can use it, but it's one that I'm excited for more
and more people to learn about because it's so easy to use and its benefits over the long term
are pretty incredible. Before you go, here's a link to a video that I think you'd enjoy watching
