For the next 24 hours, I'm going to be living the life of a professional goalkeeper.
As a kid, my biggest ever dream was to become a professional goalkeeper.
But unfortunately, I was never able to make this dream a reality.
Since becoming a YouTuber, I had given up on this dream,
as I had chosen to pursue a different career path.
But never did I think an opportunity like this would come along,
because for the next 24 hours,
I'm going to be living the life of a professional goalkeeper.
Let's get to it.
Hi mate, good to see you.
This is professional goalkeeper Scott Loach.
He's played over 500 professional games in his career,
and has played for Watford and even for the England national team.
He's going to be taking me under his wing for today,
and helping me through my first day as a professional goalkeeper.
First of all, welcome to Derby County.
This is a fantastic facility that I get to use every day.
And what I'm going to try and do with you today,
is kind of put you through what I've had for the last 21 years,
and that's to see if you've got what it takes to be a professional goalkeeper.
Let's do it.
First of all, I've got to take you inside to meet Sam,
because you're going to get weighed and get your body fats done.
Alright, let's go.
Alright, so first things first, we need to get our physical done.
So I think we're going to do my body weight and body fat percentage.
So I haven't been really looking at what I've been eating the last couple of days,
but it's all part of the lifestyle.
So let's go inside to the gym and get our body fat percentage done and our weight.
Here we go.
Hi mate, you okay?
Hi mate.
I'm Sam, the nutritionist at Derby.
Nice to meet you.
So yeah, Loach has signed you up for the skin forward test today.
So I'll just pinch you in eight places,
and then we'll spit some numbers out and we'll see how lean you are.
Sam, if you just pop your top off, I'll just quickly chuck some marks on you.
So then, no, no, no, just face that way for me.
So yeah, we'll start the test now.
So these are just some calipers, but they don't pinch.
So if you just put your finger out there,
so it's not going to pinch you hard or anything like that.
Okay.
4.2, please, Loach.
Good start.
8.2.
2.2.
9.4.
Doesn't sound like a good number there.
Oh, trust me, mine are a lot higher than that.
You're flying.
14.
These should be good, the quads.
8.2.
3.4.
What does that look like for the real equation?
56.2.
That's very good for goalie.
Yeah, very good.
So 56.2 is all of those sites,
like the measurements that we've just been added up into.
So it's eight sites all together.
Yeah, it's a pretty decent standard for a goalkeeper.
We work on, like I say, for goalkeepers,
anything around that 60 mark is ideal.
Around 60.
We've always been told that the lower 60s,
for someone like me, 62, 63.
So you're absolutely flying, mate.
It's a very good start for the day.
Okay, I'm happy with that.
I'll take it.
Yeah, thank you very much.
No worries.
It's a man.
Yeah?
Yeah.
Big boy.
That's saying about 9.6.
9.6?
That's like I said.
Thank you so much, Sam.
Appreciate that.
All right, so that's it.
We got our body fat percentage done,
and apparently I am right in the golden standard
of being a goalkeeper.
So I'll take that.
So then we've been in this morning.
We've had your weight done.
We've had your physical done.
We can quite clearly tell from the results
you're in very good shape for a goalkeeper.
I'm happy with that, yeah.
Now we're going to put you to the test
with the practical stuff,
take you inside and do some drills
and meet a couple of the boys here as well.
All right, let's go.
So it's now time to get into the goalkeeping
and do the proper stuff.
But at the end of the video, watch out
because we're going to put Karim for an exam
to see if you've got what it takes
to be a professional goalkeeper.
This is Jack Thompson.
He currently plays for the Derby County U18s
and he even plays for the England national team.
He's going to be training together with us.
This way we can compare the skills
of a current top-tier professional goalkeeper
with mine.
So the first drill we're going to do
is a bit of handling.
We're going to get you moving around the goal
and see what your hand speed's like
and your footwork's like.
Okay, let's do it.
Good.
Okay, six sharp ones.
Ready?
Yeah, let's do it.
Good.
Good, good start.
Very good start.
In you go, Jack.
Go on, have a go for me, please.
Nice.
Well done.
Set a goal.
He's on the hands today.
See the footwork on him, mate.
Well done.
Ready?
Yeah.
Two sets of three.
Good.
Nice, good.
Very good.
Into line.
Excellent stance.
Well done.
Good.
And chill, and chill.
Good.
Really good.
I really like to work at that tempo
and get the basics nailed down.
I love that.
Jack, in you go.
Do a set for me.
Come on, into line.
Good.
Nice.
And we're in.
Good.
Good hands, good hands.
Good, and adjust, then adjust.
Excellent.
Good.
Well done.
First handling drill done,
kind of getting into it.
I love the service, man.
The balls feel great on the gloves.
The level's high,
and we're only just getting started.
And at the end of the video,
we've got the final exam coming to us as well,
so we're really going to find out today
if I have what it takes.
Yep.
Good.
Into line, then.
Good.
Great shape.
Great feet.
Well done.
Finished it off nicely.
Like it.
Well done.
It's not gone anywhere, though.
Good.
Come on, then, Jack.
Nice and sharp, okay?
Come on.
What have we got?
Good.
Good chest.
And sharp.
Sharp.
Good hands.
Great feet.
Winter line.
Good.
One more for me.
Good hands, mate.
Excellent.
Well done.
Good.
Solid.
Good bread basket, as they say.
So we'll do that the other side.
All right.
And I think we'll be warm enough, then,
to really jazz it up.
Are we ready?
Yeah.
Good hands.
Well kept in, by the way.
Very good.
Whoa.
It's okay.
Good.
Come on, we'll get it.
Sharp, you.
Sharp.
Good.
Good hands.
Kept in.
Good sound.
Well done.
One more, Jack.
Finish it strong.
Good hands, mate.
Good.
There you go.
Good start.
Very good start.
Good.
So we've started the session.
We've done handling.
We've done footwork.
How are you feeling after that?
Feeling good.
I feel like my hands are good.
My footwork's strong.
I'm still waiting to get into the explosive diving,
because that really is my strength.
Well, this is where we're going to do it now, okay?
So a little variation on the dive.
I'm going to put you up in the top corner,
and then we're going to bring this thing in.
This will also test your reflexes.
Once you've made the save,
we're going to get you into a position
where you're set off the post,
and the ball will come in like a cutback.
It'll bang off this,
and we'll see what your reaction is like in a half goal.
So we're almost doing two drills in one here.
Ready?
Let's do it.
Let's go.
Okay, so I just need you to take a false position in the goal.
On my shout, I'm going to put you in the top corner.
Ready?
Yep.
Great touch.
Get yourself set.
Yep.
That's such a shame, man.
Comes quick, doesn't it?
It comes so fast.
Some save onto the post, though.
Ready to go again?
Two more?
Yep.
Oh, yes.
Get there and set.
Yep.
Good hands.
Well set.
Great set, by the way.
Very good.
Unbelievable leg height, as well,
in the top corner.
I love it.
I'm pretty sure it went wider than the goal.
No, it was going in.
It was going in, I'm telling you.
Last one.
Ready?
Yep.
Good hands.
Get yourself set.
Yep.
Good hands.
Well done.
Very good.
Good.
You want to do one more?
Okay.
Yep.
Nice.
Good hands.
Yep.
Oh, there we go.
Good.
It's so fast, all that thing.
But I think the difference to that one,
to the first one,
when you spun in,
you got balanced.
That's it, yeah.
So you could transfer your weight
and go back on yourself.
The other one, I was glued to the ground.
That's it.
Yeah, really good.
I was on my back feet.
Should we see if Jack can copy that?
Let's see it.
Let's see what you've got, Jack, all right?
I love that drill.
High dive, gets you feeling well.
Sitting on your feet, fast feet,
and a big save again.
Ready?
Yep.
Easy one for you.
Get up and set.
Yep.
Good easy one for you.
Don't make it easy for him.
Easy.
Come on.
Not this one, though.
Yep.
Good height.
Back into your goal.
Yep.
One more.
Great height on the dive, by the way.
Go, Jack.
Yep.
Nice.
Go get yourself set, then.
Yep.
Oh!
Oh, yeah!
Had to get one in, didn't I?
So we've seen you in the top corner of that side.
Let's see if we can do it the other way, okay?
Easy.
I can do it both ways.
Love it.
Up, down, left, right.
How do you get so high and flat?
I don't know.
Just jump.
Let's go.
Other side, then.
Yep.
Good hand.
Get yourself set.
Yep.
Oh!
I would say the only thing there
is maybe try and spin
and stay deep into your line
because you were out here.
It narrows down the time
because if I think if you can
give that quick spin in there,
you might just get something to it.
Yep.
That's top bin.
Oh!
Yep.
There we go.
Comfortable for you.
Ah!
I should have seen that, man.
I got a touch to it.
It wasn't enough.
Ready?
Last one, then.
Come on.
Double save to finish with.
Yep.
Good hand.
Get yourself set.
Yep.
That's the one.
Good hand.
Solid.
Well done.
Very good.
That's a tough drill, man.
I'll tell you that.
I touched two of them.
So close to making a save,
but it comes off so fast,
all that thing.
It's mental.
Yep.
Oh!
Well done, mate.
Get up, get up.
Yep.
Good hands, mate.
What a save.
Right.
Yep.
Good.
Yep.
Good.
Right.
Oh!
That's it!
Again!
Come on!
Yeah!
Oh!
All right.
We've done a couple drills now.
Really getting into it.
I'm feeling good.
I'm feeling fit, you know?
Getting into the medical
or getting into the physical,
getting my body weight down.
I was kind of nervous,
but I'm happy that went well.
So that kind of gave me
a bit of a boost for today.
And now we're getting
into the high diving.
So this is what I really love.
You know, this is my forte.
This is what I do.
I'm really looking forward
to showing the guys
what I can do.
Let's keep it going.
High dives.
What we've done here
is we've put in the hurdle
that has three adjustable heights.
For each serve,
we'll be altering the height
to be even higher.
If you touch the hurdle,
you lose a point.
Simple as that.
Best of three.
Let's go.
Oh!
He's gone again in the air.
Oh!
Fantastic!
He's so bouncy.
That was incredible.
That's it.
It's two.
It's just fine.
It's highest level.
That's higher, that mate.
Do you see how high that is?
I'm not sure
I can get over that.
Oh!
Can it go any higher?
It's my turn now.
I'm not excited
about doing level one.
Does it go higher?
It does go one higher.
Where do you want to go?
Yeah, of course.
Why not?
I might as well.
Oh!
There's nobody near it.
Wow, very good.
There you go.
Set the standard, everything.
Up to you, mate.
See, that's what I said.
That's my strong point.
Explosiveness, high dive,
and that's what we love.
Let's see how Scott does.
I'm not sure I'll get over that.
I might have to end up
diving through it,
but we'll see.
Oh!
What a save, mate.
Love that.
Ah, easy.
Don't give corners away.
Oh, what a save, mate.
I'm going to have to go one higher, aren't I?
I've got to do it.
You have to try.
I think we should keep going
until one fails.
Yeah, just do one side, maybe.
Pressure's on, Scott.
Oh!
Well done.
He's still got it.
Do you know what this means, though?
We're going up one more, then, yeah?
Yeah, yeah.
I think that's...
Is that...
So, um...
That'd be cool, wouldn't it?
Nah, that's stupid.
That's stupid.
All right.
This is really hip-hop.
It does go one higher,
so we'll see.
If we get up onto this,
we've got one more level to go as well.
Here we go.
I'm ready.
Oh, look at that.
That is out of this world.
All right, Scott.
Pressure's on.
Sorry.
I'll go again.
I just had to get that in.
It was too good to resist.
You made the save.
Just didn't get my feet right.
Couldn't get the push in the end.
Happy with the save.
Disappointed with the footwork,
but deserved a winner, though, mate.
I still think, though,
for my fans and following,
I want to see if you can do
the very high one.
I have to try.
Let's go.
Let's do it.
All right, last level.
It doesn't go higher than this.
I mean, look at this.
It just looks stupid as well.
That's a one.
Listen,
that challenge is yours.
Deserved winner.
I told you.
I told you at the start.
Clear favourite.
Back in the game.
Let's see what we've got next, shall we?
Let's go.
So, we've done the handling.
We've done the diving.
We've done the reflexes.
A big part of goalkeeping now
is distribution.
But for this,
we're going to make it more
match realistic
and make a competitive element to it.
This is where Jack comes in
and you know who to face off.
Here goes Jack.
In this next drill,
Scott is going to be
playing us a ball
and calling out a number.
Number one
is the small goals in the front.
Number two
is the middle goal
and number three
is Jack standing
on the other side of the field.
As soon as we get the ball,
we have to distribute it
with a technique of choice
to the corresponding target.
The small goal is one point.
The middle goal is two
and the other goalkeeper
is three points.
Ready?
Yeah.
Off we go.
Number one.
Good.
Good start.
Back in.
Easy.
Three.
Nice.
I like it.
Picasso.
Good.
Two.
Oh.
Lucky, lucky.
I overhit it.
Three.
No, it's too high.
Oh, it's...
I'll give it, yeah.
It's there.
I'll give it, yeah.
I'll take it.
Two more, two more.
Two more.
One.
Nice.
Two.
I'm going to give it, yeah.
That's so close.
I hit that so clean as well.
On the top corner.
I'm very happy with that strike.
You're currently on ten points, alright?
Alright.
Last one.
Ready?
Three.
That's the one.
I'm very happy with that.
It doesn't get better than that.
Some really good distribution there.
Unbelievable start.
Thirteen points.
Tough act to follow.
Let's see what Jack's got.
I'm very happy with that.
I didn't expect it to go that well.
Only one went wide.
And that one hit the top corner,
but I'll take that because I hit it so clean on the drop kick.
Let's see how Jack does.
That's a tough act to follow.
He did very well there,
but I have to show him what I can do.
I'm going to show him my standards.
One.
Ah, nice easy one.
Three.
Ah, outside the box.
Two.
Ah, delicate to the full back.
Nice, well done.
You need a big one here.
Three.
Wide.
Four left.
Ready?
Two.
Oh, I have to sort myself out here.
You need to get back into this.
He's running away at the minute.
Three.
He's in the box.
I'll give it to you, I'll give it to you.
His feet are in the box.
I'm letting him back in.
Six points.
Two.
Don't mind it.
One more then bud, one more.
I think you know what's coming.
Three.
Nice, well done.
I'm disappointed with that.
I think I've let myself down.
I have better standards than that but...
You did well.
You did very well.
So we tried to put a bit of match realism into it.
We tried to make it competitive.
Really, really good technique throughout.
But there couldn't be one winner.
With 13 points to eight, all the way from the Netherlands, the Dutch GK.
Well done, congratulations.
Alright, that was it for the goalkeeping challenges for now.
We still have the final exam to do in the stadium.
But I just want to say a huge thanks to Jack for helping us out.
He's going to be an absolute legend in the near future.
And we might have to do a video together in the future as well.
So if you guys would like to see that, let us know in the comments down below.
For now, thank you Jack mate.
Thank you very much.
Thank you for having me.
It's time, let's go.
Let's go.
Okay, so here we are.
We've made it to the stadium.
What are your thoughts so far?
The stadium is stunning.
And I feel like the training so far has been going really well.
So I feel like I'm ready.
Well, exactly.
It's time to finish it off now and do our final exam.
To see if you've got what it takes to go to the top.
But before we do that, we've got a little something for you for coming over.
And something we need for this next challenge.
I'm excited to see.
Okay, so what we've done.
Seeing as you're over here as our guest.
You've got the Derby training kit on.
We think it's right to finish this exam off with you.
We'll give you your very own Derby County goalkeeper kit.
That is stunning.
It's Dutch GK on the back as well.
Dutch GK, short sleeves a lot.
Look at that.
Now I really need to perform for this exam.
This is what it's all going to be about.
Yeah, so it's all good looking the part.
But can you be the part out there?
So we want you to get dressed into this and meet us out on the grass.
Let's do it.
Alright, Scott.
I'm changed.
I'm ready for my final exam.
What are we going to be doing?
Well, first of all, you look the part.
You look like a proper goalie.
So now let's find out if you are.
We're going to start off with some handling.
Obviously, we did it this morning in the gym.
Eased you into it.
But now we're straight into it, okay?
All I'm going to do is be 12 yards out.
I'm going to get the half volley out for 10 shots.
And I want you to hold at least 8 of them.
Okay, I'm ready.
Let's do it.
Ready?
Good to go?
Yeah, ready.
Just straight down the bowel, okay?
Good start.
One.
Two.
Good feet.
Love it.
Three.
Nice.
Good.
These are coming in fast as well, mate.
Five.
Come on.
Halfway there.
Come on.
Oh, tricky one.
Six.
Four to go.
Come on.
He's not making it easy for me, I'll tell you that.
It's a great save.
Is that a goal?
A VAR.
I'm giving it to you as one, though.
It's a hell of a save.
Three to go.
Come on.
Nice.
Two to go.
Don't drop any.
Be clean.
Come on.
Good.
One more.
Come on.
Clean round.
Come on.
Oh, that moved as well.
Very good.
He didn't make it easy for me.
No, I think that was it.
First test passed, mate.
From here as well, it's so close and these shots are coming in so fast.
Yeah.
It's much more difficult than I thought.
I think that's what we're after.
We're testing your hand speed and your footwork and your hand-eye coordination.
Definitely passed the first test.
You ready for the next?
I'm ready.
Let's go.
So what we're going to do for the next test is three dives either side, right in the top
corner.
Kuhn's going to take a false position.
When I shout yes, he's going to spin in.
All I'm going to do is put him up in the top corner.
I'm going to expect him to say four out of six as I'm really going for the top in here.
All right, I'm ready.
Yep.
That's quick.
I got a hand to it as well.
Yep.
Oh my God.
Yep.
There we go.
Back in the game.
Good.
That's the one.
I've already let in the first two.
I need to have all three on that side.
Ready?
Yep.
Oh.
Let's go.
All right.
Feeling good, feeling good.
Two left.
Yep.
Oh.
One more.
Take a breath.
A bit of suspense.
This is the one.
Yep.
Oh.
Finish with hands.
Brilliant.
We didn't start off too well, but we came back.
That is goalkeeping though.
I've said it so many times over the course of the few days I've been here with you.
You could start off slow.
You could have something go against you.
You've picked yourself up and you've gone and pulled.
Definitely three out of four.
Really, really big saves out of the bag.
Fourth one.
Nice easy catch.
It's another test passed.
What we're going to do now, I'm going to go on the edge of the D, line up five footballs,
five free kicks.
I'm only allowing him to concede one there.
Let's see how he gets on.
All right, guys.
We've done everything.
I've passed the first test.
I've passed the second test.
I'm feeling good.
All we have left is five free kicks and I can only concede one.
Pressure's on.
It's time to prove that I can actually do this.
And if you are enjoying the video, don't forget to leave a like and subscribe to the channel.
All right.
Time for the final test.
Let's go.
Ah, this is the worst.
Straight in front of the goal.
I'm not going for a catch there.
With a bounce like that, no chance I'm holding on to that.
Not today.
Last one.
Finish always.
Finish on a save.
Jeez.
That last shot.
I got a bit of fatigue in the legs towards the end.
It's been a long few days.
But still within that, some really good saves.
Like you said, I think the one that bounced, you saved.
Bit of movement on the end.
A strong parry to finish.
I'll take my goal away because it was off the five.
So overall, I'll give you a clean sheet.
And in my eyes, I think everything you've done today shows that you're more on the way
and capable enough to be a professional goalkeeper in my eyes.
Thank you very much, man.
I really enjoyed that.
No, I've enjoyed it.
Thank you very much.
