1-2 possible warnings in June
The Russian military has faced record-breaking casualties in May,
according to the British Defense Ministry's May 31 report on the situation in Ukraine.
In May, Russia launched a new attack in the Kharkiv region,
after the U.S. aid was delayed for months.
On May 31, the British Defense Ministry noted that Russia had reached a sad milestone in the number of casualties.
According to the update, the total number of Russian deaths and injuries since the full-scale invasion broke out
may have reached 500,000 people.
In addition, the loss rate continued to be high in 2024.
On average, Russia has seen more than 1,200 casualties a day this month,
the highest reported since the war began.
The update of the British Defense Ministry writes,
the increase in casualties is very likely a reaction to the proud attack
that is taking place by Russia on a large scale.
It is very possible that most Russian soldiers are only trained to limit
and they cannot carry out complex attack operations.
Therefore, Russia has launched attacks in small but high-risk periods
to weaken Ukraine's defense capabilities.
The British Defense Ministry also said that Russia has continued to recruit new soldiers
to maintain this approach,
but this strategy is almost certainly going to continue to limit the ability to establish
more capable units of Russia.
Although the Kremlin continues to suffer heavy losses,
the attacks have complicated Ukraine's defense efforts.
According to the War Research Institute,
the Ukrainian army has made some progress in countering attacks in other areas.
The War Research Institute said in an update on May 30
that Western leaders' permission to use support weapons to attack inside Russia
may play an important role in Ukraine's defense efforts in the future.
Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Lenbergis said on May 31
that if Russia sets military targets in Belarus,
Ukraine has the right to attack them.
Speaking at a meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Prague,
Lenbergis stressed that Ukraine must have self-defense capabilities.
Answering US media about Ukraine's ability to attack Russian targets in Belarus
such as ammunition depots or camps,
Lithuanian Foreign Minister said
that if Russian military bases are deployed in other countries' territories
to avoid being attacked,
I think Ukraine has the right to adjust its targets accordingly.
Belarus is a close ally of Russia.
Russian President Alexander Lukashenko has allowed Russia
to use Belarus' territory to launch an attack on Kiev in February 2022
In March 2023, Lukashenko said he was ready
to allow Russian troops to use Belarus' territory again
to launch an attack on Ukraine.
The statement was made by Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Lenbergis
in the context that Russia is launching an attack on other Kiev provinces
in northeastern Ukraine.
Belarus and Russia have not commented on this information.
On June 1, at the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore,
South Korean Defense Minister Shin Won-sik said
there was more evidence that the weapons used by Russia in the war in Ukraine
were illegally imported from North Korea.
Shin said military cooperation between Russia and North Korea
was increasing tensions on the Korean Peninsula
and also affecting the battlefield in Europe.
If North Korea continues to receive military technology transfers from Russia
to replace the support for the Kremlin's war,
North Korea's military capability will be significantly improved
and is a risk.
The United States said in February
that North Korea had transferred more than 10,000 ammunition
Shin also called for China to play a more positive role
in denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula.
As for the question
whether South Korea can find its own nuclear weapons,
Shin said South Korea believes in a more powerful global nuclear nonproliferation
and U.S.-Korea alliance
is the answer to North Korea's nuclear development.
Israeli forces have ended operations in the northern Gaza Strip
after days of fierce fighting
and carried out more than 200 air strikes
as they continue to advance deeper into the southern Gaza Strip.
Israeli troops on May 31 announced
they had found missile launchers
and other weapons
as well as Hamas tunnels in the center of the Gaza Strip.
The Taliban has launched an attack
to destroy Palestinian military units
In a statement on more than two weeks of fierce fighting in Jabalia,
Israeli troops said they had completed their operations
and retreated to prepare for other operations in Gaza.
On May 31, an Israeli official said
that Tel Aviv would not agree to any ceasefire
if it did not include a deal to pay back the survivors.
On May 30, Hamas announced it was ready for a deal
including the exchange of information
to take the Palestinian prisoners detained in Israel,
as long as Tel Aviv ceases war.
At the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore on June 1,
U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin
tried to focus attention on China's threat
in Asia Pacific
in order to dispel concerns that
Washington is not focusing on this area.
There are more and more concerns that Washington
focuses on helping Ukraine
against Russia's invasion
and supporting Israel's war in Gaza,
which has left the United States
far behind in the Indo-Pacific region.
Austin said in his speech
that despite these historic clashes
in Europe and the Middle East,
the Indo-Pacific is still our priority.
I would like to make it clear that
the United States can only be safe
if Asia is safe.
That is why the United States has long
maintained our presence in this area.
Austin also emphasized the importance
of regional alliances
and the need to resolve disputes through dialogue,
not coercion or conflict,
and certainly not through punishment.
According to Reuters,
Austin's speech focused on Beijing's actions
in the region, including the East China Sea,
but not just China.
In response, Chinese Prime Minister Kang Qianfeng
accused the U.S. Indo-Pacific strategy
to create division,
provoke confrontation,
and undermine stability.
On May 31,
Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
condemned illegal, coercive,
and violent actions in the East China Sea,
but did not blame China.
Austin said the dispute
that the Philippines must face is dangerous,
and reiterated that the U.S.
joint defense pact with Manila is solid.
He added that the purpose is to put tension
between Beijing and Manila
out of control.
Austin said the U.S. will continue
to play an important role in the Indo-Pacific
along with our friends
across the region
that we share and care about very much.
During a rare meeting
of Canadian and Chinese defense officials,
Otawa warned Beijing
not to interfere in their election.
Canadian Defense Minister Bill Blair
told Reuters
about his conversation
with his Chinese counterpart.
I have raised concerns
about foreign interference
in all possible actions,
including our interference in our institutions,
including our elections,
but there are also collusive actions
against the Chinese community in Canada,
our citizens.
Canadian intelligence said in April
that China had interfered
in the two most recent elections.
Beijing denied the allegations.
Last year,
Otawa said a conservative
family-run party in Hong Kong
had become the target
of an online information campaign.
The Canadian government
expelled a senior Chinese diplomat
after the intelligence accused him
of trying to infiltrate Otawa's legislature.
Minister Blair said
he also expressed concerns
about China's military actions
around Taiwan
since the presidential election
in January of this island.
He added that Canada
will strengthen its presence in Asia.
In June 2024,
the weather forecaster
of the National Meteorological
and Atmospheric Administration
said that there was a possibility
of 1-2 tropical storms
including the international storm
Malaxi.
The average temperature in the country
is more common than the average
for many years,
from 0.5 to 1 degree Celsius.
The central-central and southern-central areas
are higher than 1 degree Celsius
In the first 10 days of June,
there is little possibility
of widespread heat in the areas.
After that, the heat is likely to increase
in the provinces and cities
of the northern and central regions.
Regarding the rain situation,
Ms. Tran Thi Truc said
the total amount of rain in the northern
and northern-central regions
is 10-30% higher
than the average for many years.
Other areas are more common
than the average for many years.
The northern and northern-central regions
will have many rainy days.
Between the first 10 days of the month,
the above area is likely to have
moderate to severe rain.
In the western and southern regions,
the southwestern season is more active,
so the rain is more likely
to be severe and heavy.
