Sherri gives her hilarious take on the current headlines!
Three, two, one, it's showtime.
We're gonna have a
Sherri Shepherd.
Woo!
Good to be here.
I feel like I'm a guest.
I'm so excited to be here.
John Murray.
Hey, it's a wonderful Thursday.
You're a little taller today, I see.
I know, I got my little platforms on.
Every once in a while, I do the kitten heels, you know.
But every once in a while, I like to try some big platforms.
Well, be careful today.
We did that story with the young lady
walking into the Oscars with shoes on like that.
She did.
It didn't end well for her, Sherri.
But y'all didn't know, when I twirled this time,
it was nice and slow and steady, okay?
It wasn't fast.
I was like, okay, here we go.
Y'all, I have to say, oh my goodness,
I loved having Ernie Hudson on my show yesterday
from Ghostbusters.
I tell you, you know what?
Our friend Bevy Smith says, it gets greater later.
I'm gonna tell you, Ernie Hudson is 78 years old.
He looks 38.
That's it, he was feeling himself.
He was, cause you know, he had the guns out.
He was showing us his guns.
And he talked about how fans tattoo his signature
on their bodies and his face on their bodies.
So, of course, I took my opportunity.
Take a look.
Do you have women, but do you have like women coming up,
you know, going, can you sign my chest and stuff?
No, I've been waiting for that.
I was like, what, you know what I mean?
That was so much fun for me.
And just to feel that marker going on my chest.
I was like, Ernie was such a good sport.
I loved it.
And I said, you see, Ernie took his sweet time
signing his name.
I was like, darn, you ain't got a middle name
that you can sign in there?
Ernie Hudson, you were so wonderful.
You are a national treasure.
And I wanna thank you for being here, Ernie.
I was like, I would love his name to be
Ernest Charles Worth Johnson the fourth.
Now y'all, Michael Jordan may be one of People Magazine's
sexiest men alive.
Oh, yes.
You forgot the B, Sherry.
Did I say Michael Jordan?
Michael Jordan plays basketball,
but this one is a Hollywood star.
Oh, well, let me say that again.
Michael B. Jordan.
Fix that.
All right, thank you.
He may be one of People Magazine's sexiest men alive,
but Michael B. Jordan's personal life is not so sexy
because he recently went on Jay Shetty's podcast
and he opened up about some of his personal struggles
with dating.
Take a look.
There's a, you know, a loneliness that I have.
You know, the responsibility that you have is isolating,
and the weight is isolating.
So I think the worst part of that is the feeling
like nobody really understands.
I go back and forth between wanting a partnership
and then not knowing what's the best partner for me.
Like bringing them into my world,
what I got going on isn't easy.
I'm not looking, but it would take a very special person
to understand and grow with me.
I've been sleeping on Michael B. Jordan.
Wait a minute.
First, look at, like I enjoyed Michael B. Jordan
as an actor, but just sitting here,
and he looks so like, just, you know,
he don't look sad, but he just looks like,
I just wish I had the right person.
And he says, and I don't know who to partner up with.
Sherri Shepherd is right here.
Let me tell you something.
I am a firm believer in shooting your shot, okay?
And do you want a seasoned person?
Let me tell you Michael B. Jordan
who understands your world.
A woman who is seasoned and can handle the responsibility
of what you do and the greatness of who you are.
She got a talk show with one name.
I just, putting it out there.
But we've been sleeping on Michael B. Jordan all this time.
But I bet you every woman who hears this is like,
where is the application online
to be Michael B. Jordan's girlfriend?
They are on LinkedIn.
They are on indeed.com.
Plenty of fish, JDate, everybody.
You have put out the bat signal, Michael B. Jordan.
But here's the thing.
I do understand how relationships are very hard
for Michael B. Jordan because if you get with a man
as successful as Michael B. Jordan, he is busy.
You're not gonna see him a lot of times
because he's always working.
He directs, he acts, he's always in meetings.
So if you are a woman who wants to be cuddled up,
watching Netflix, you're not gonna get that
with Michael B. Jordan.
Because he's gonna be on the set doing press.
He's gonna be in meetings.
You'll get to see him when you're on the red carpet
when you wanna look pretty.
But Michael B. Jordan is the type of person,
even when he came here, John,
he's got a team of people who travel with him.
So it is a hard thing to be with this man.
You won't be able to surprise Michael B. Jordan
because you're gonna have to go through his assistants
to even surprise him.
So unless you, if you're a woman
who's got your own thing going on,
you probably would be very lonely
being with Michael B. Jordan
because to be where he is now, he's all over the place.
And to be with a Michael B. Jordan,
your entire life is going to be on display.
So whatever you have said in the past,
whatever you have done,
they are gonna have the top five things about you.
So if you're a person who doesn't,
I mean, like being in the limelight,
you will be with Michael B. Jordan.
And another thing, ladies,
you will have to share Michael B. Jordan with the world.
It just won't be you and him.
There's a lot of women who are lusting after your man.
So before you start fantasizing about Michael B. Jordan,
just know it's a lot of moving parts to his world.
But Michael B. Jordan,
I'm willing to move every part of your world.
I'm just, I already know what that entails.
Y'all, pop star Lily Allen says
that she would be much more successful
if she did not have kids.
Now, Lily had a string of hits about 15 years ago,
but she took a step back to raise her two daughters.
And she sat down with Radio Times podcast
and she says that her kids ruined her career.
Take a look.
My children ruined my career.
I mean, I love them and they complete me,
but in terms of like, you know, pop stardom,
totally ruined it.
It really annoys me when people say you can have it all
because quite frankly, you can't.
You know, some people choose their career
over their children and that's their prerogative.
But you know, my parents were quite absent when I was a kid.
And I feel like that really left some like nasty scars
that I'm not willing to, you know, to repeat online.
And so I chose stepping back and concentrating on them.
And I'm glad that I've done that
because I think they're pretty well-rounded people.
Oh, woo.
When I tell you with mothers,
this is an age old question for women.
Can you have it all?
Clap if you think you can have it all.
Okay.
All right, so a few of y'all.
So clap if you think it's just hard to have it all.
Clap if you think it's just really hard.
It's very divided.
So, okay, where I stand is I think, unfortunately,
I don't think that you can have it all.
I think that when you try to have it all,
some things are going to fall.
It's one of those things where it's so many
spinning plates at one time.
There will inevitably be something that is going to drop.
So when you talk about having children
and not only having children with, oh, they so cute
and I'm dressing them in the cute clothes,
you've got to raise those children.
And in order to raise those children,
you've got to be there.
There are pivotal moments in a child's life
that really matter.
It's not about what you give them,
it's about the time and being there.
If you are in a relationship
and you're giving to your relationship,
your partner, your husband,
if you have a career that you're trying to go after,
I think you can pull yourself in a lot of directions.
And if it's your relationship, your children, your career,
now we also have ailing parents
that we have to take care of and family members.
So if neither of those fall,
you know what will fall?
Your body, because also you have to throw in self-care.
That's a lot of moving parts.
And I respect Lily Allen for saying this
because I think it's very true,
especially being a pop star doing this.
And then she came out and she said,
I had to take, I had to look at it.
And she said, I had to take a break and take a step back.
So she sacrificed her career for her children
and they're doing very well.
So I can respect that.
You know, when you're a pop star, it's very, very hard
because you're always on the road, concerts, press tours.
Beyonce and Nicki Minaj,
they take their kids on the road with them,
but back way when you weren't able to do that.
But also these are women that are huge stars.
And I bet that Beyonce and Nicki Minaj,
they have a lot of help.
I wouldn't be surprised if each child
probably had their own person helping them.
Like, if you look at Michelle Obama,
former first lady, Michelle Obama.
To be the first lady,
she's married to the leader of the free world.
They were all over the country, all over the world.
But you know what?
She had help.
Her mother moved into the White House to help her out.
You know, and that's,
and kudos to her mama.
And kudos to Michelle's husband,
because usually the spouse or the partner
don't want the in-law coming in.
And I don't even know if mama wanted to come in
because she was like, I'm not moving in that little,
oh, you mean the White House.
I will be there.
Just give me Lincoln's bedroom, baby.
But it's very, very hard to have everything.
I have been a single mom since I believe
Jeffrey was two years old, my son Jeffrey.
And you know, I had to provide for my son.
So I had to hire nannies and assistants to help me out.
I had just started to show the view
that was taking all of my time.
And Jeffrey got so sick of people asking
if my assistant Edie was his mom.
He just, because I was not, I missed some stuff.
And, but this was a career that I had worked so hard for.
This was a life that I wanted.
And I put my career first a lot of times.
And I made a lot of sacrifices for Jeffrey and for me too,
because I loved what I did.
So Lily Allen, I understand.
I think I even went, when John,
when The View called me to audition,
I was pregnant and on bedrest and flu and still,
because I have been trying to get on The View
for so many years and they said no.
And it was like this one opportunity came
and I was pregnant.
And I remember asking the doctor,
she said, I don't think you should fly.
And I said, am I going to have this baby?
And she said, no.
And I jumped right on a plane and then,
and came and then got back home and got back in the bed.
And they said, we want you to come back
to sit in for Joy Behar.
And I went back, but then look what The View did
for my career.
So it's a hard thing.
And you go through mother guilt all the time.
You know, Jeffrey, when I was doing,
after I got released from The View,
I was doing a show called Soul Man
with Niecy Nash and Cedric the Entertainer.
And I had to fly back and forth
and Jeffrey would send me pictures of him.
It was so hard, but I needed the money.
I didn't have the money.
I was going through a horrible divorce
and I literally was just broke.
And so I had to fly to LA and he would send me pictures
with tears running down his eyes.
And I would be in the scene and the school would call
and say, Jeffrey is crying.
I was on the floor.
I was trying to make people laugh
and on the floor crying.
So for me, I feel like it's very, very hard to have it all.
You have to sit down and as much as you can,
figure out what your priorities are.
And then you got to trust in God.
You got to be like, look.
Oh my goodness.
But there's a lot of stuff I couldn't do.
There's a lot of movies that I had to turn down
because I couldn't go to Europe for six weeks
because I had my son.
My prayer always is God.
I give you everything, my career, my child, relationships,
give me back what you want me to have
because I'd never want my son to look up
and say you were never there.
That's a big one for us mothers.
So Lily Allen, I respect you, girl.
You stepped away, you made your kids the priority.
Goodness, I have so much to talk about.
We don't have any time.
Here at the Sherri Show, let me tell y'all something.
We enjoy Smokey Robinson and all his gasms.
That's the name of his album, Gasms.
But Smokey finally revealed his secret
to how he moves so well at 84 years old.
He shared this video of himself performing
and said yoga and golf, people, yoga and golf.
Okay, when I tell y'all, look, look,
I love Smokey Robinson so much and the way he moves.
But this is the thing,
when you're in a certain season of your life,
the moves don't look like they used to
when you were younger.
Like when Usher dances and moves,
y'all remember him at the Super Bowl?
It's nice and slow, it's just all, you know.
Y'all remember when Usher was,
when Smokey moves and it's very sexy,
but I swear he reminded me of my uncle at the barbecue.
You remember, y'all know when you go to barbecue,
you got that one uncle going, that's my son!
That's my son!
Barbecue to go, y'all kids don't know nothing
about this, nothing about this!
This wrongful music right here, it's wrongful!
But you know what, Smokey Robinson,
you are sexy, you so sexy,
you better not ever stop that yoga and golf, Smokey.
Oh my God, you don't know what you're doing to me.
Y'all, we got a great show for you today.
Next, award-winning actress, Angela Bassett is here.
Sherri will be right back.
The day is here!
When we talk about Hollywood royalty,
my first guest is truly the queen, all right?
Every performance leaves me waiting to exhale.
My next guest got the answer to the question,
What's love got to do with it?
And her portrayal of Stella Payne
is the reason why I still want to own a timeshare in Jamaica.
Would you please join me in welcoming the incomparable
Angela Bassett.
Oh!
You're so love because I so many of us
feel like your success is our success.
How does it feel to have so many people in your corner, Angela.
Very humbling just beautiful.
It's a great feeling one that you
wish everyone could experience in some way form or rather
large or small every single day.
Oh you know I'm telling you when you received your Oscar
it felt like we had all won.
You, we, it was, we were ready to,
we were ready to protest and march,
and it was like, we were, we were ready,
we, like, we your ride or dies out here, okay?
I know it, I know it.
So even in your speech, it was so inspirational,
when you, when you got your Academy Award,
and you said, the best is yet to come.
How the heck do you emote and whisper at the same time?
How do you do that?
I don't know, just the breath.
Control the breath.
It was so powerful when you did it.
Now, we are headed out, after we talk to you,
we're going to the NAACP Image Awards,
because I was nominated, the show was nominated.
So I want to ask you, Angela,
do you have any advice for, like, an awards speech?
Do I emote, do I scream, do I come blue, do I fight?
Like, what is it?
Don't fight.
You won!
Okay, okay, I don't have to.
So what should I, is it?
Always what you're feeling in your heart.
That's the best.
What you're feeling, the love you're feeling,
the appreciation, the honesty.
What I'm feeling in my heart.
Don't try.
So what I'm feeling in my heart?
Yeah, yeah.
Well, I would.
Let it out.
I'ma let it out.
If I don't win, I'ma be like,
that bitch didn't win.
Oh!
That's not what I'm supposed to do.
You know, if anybody can do it, you can.
If anybody can do it, you might.
Oh my God, and I just love you so much.
I have loved you since What's Love Got to Do With It.
Okay.
Thank you, thank you.
And everybody knows this scene
when you lit the car on fire.
When you, you know, it was just like.
That's Waiting to Exhale.
No, I said Waiting to, okay.
You said What's Love.
This is when you nervous
when being with Angela Bassett.
What's Love, What's Love Got to Do With It.
You play Tina Turner.
What's Love Got to Do With It.
She was fired too.
Okay.
And it's like, and you inspired us in that,
in What's Love Got to Do With It.
And then Waiting to Exhale, okay.
And then you, it's like so many moments,
iconic moments where you were us.
And Waiting to Exhale,
and What's Love Got to Do With It,
you said just give me back my name.
That's all I want, take everything.
But, that meme of the car being lit on fire,
it was just like us.
Have you ever lit anybody's car on fire?
I may have wanted to, but I wouldn't do it.
I'm just, I'm too nice for that.
You too nice?
Too laid back for that.
Girl, we need to write it.
I dream about it.
That's one of the reasons I wanted that role.
Because Terry wanted me to do the role that Whitney did.
And I was like, no, no.
I want to sell all this stuff for a dollar
and burn it up, you know.
I was like, in that moment,
I was channeling my mother.
You know, when you would do something wrong or whatever.
And she said, and I was channeling her,
thinking about what she would say sometimes.
It was like, I'll fix your little red wagon.
That's what I'm talking about.
Like, literally, that is my meme
in all of my group chats with my girls,
is this, this meme right here.
Do you ever get tired of seeing this meme?
Never.
Okay.
I love it.
The fire was hot, too, that day.
They control the fire, but it was a real fire.
Well, I do have to say, I loved it when you inspired me.
I tried it.
It didn't work.
Oh, no, they put you in jail for that.
Yeah, the statute of limitations is over,
so I'm not going nowhere.
Somebody actually tried that.
I read about it in Jet.
Okay.
You know, in Jet magazine.
It was like, it did not go well for her, you know.
You know what?
I'm looking at you, Angela,
and you are even hotter now than when you,
that this is Angela of decades ago.
This was just recently, okay,
that you took these pictures.
Okay, my 60s are around the corner.
How I get to look like this?
What are you doing here?
A little fast metabolism diet.
Fast metabolism.
I'll say, yeah, I'll do it.
Okay, so do you have, do you work out, and you?
A little workout, yeah.
A little cardio on one day,
a little strength training on another day,
and a little massage on the third.
And, okay, you know what?
That's a good diet, right?
That's a good diet,
and speaking of a little massage on the third,
let's talk about your husband, Courtney Vance.
Oh, good segue.
I'm feeling you, a little massage on the third.
I love just your enduring love.
You guys have been together for 26 years plus.
That makes me so happy.
Angela, do you remember when you knew
Courtney B. Vance was the one?
I think we were at a play,
and he had come with someone else,
I had come with someone else,
and just saw him there.
Of course, we're friends from way back in the day.
And I just saw how attentive he was
to others there in the audience,
making sure that we were taken care of.
And I thought, what a wonderful trait for someone,
getting nothing out of it,
but wanting to make sure that they were comfortable.
And that's when I said, whoop,
let me take a closer peek.
Really, and it's so funny because Courtney,
when he was here, his love for you was so on display,
so much.
Is there something that a single woman
we should be looking for in a man when we?
Well, I always say, when you're dealing with someone,
you just have to make sure that their core is pure,
because we all make mistakes,
and we're not clones of one another.
But if they have your best interests at heart,
and others, and others,
everybody can behave for the weekend,
for the six months, for the whatever,
but it's how they treat others as well.
And also know that it's how much are we,
or how willing we are to ask for forgiveness,
to say we're sorry, to negotiate, you know.
Ooh, that's so much work, but okay.
All right.
All right, but it is.
It's the work you put in, and what you receive from it.
And now you got your twins.
You got Slater and Bronwyn.
Like, they were little.
That's what I was gonna say.
I remember when they were little.
Okay, you remember when they were little.
I remember when they were little, okay?
And now they're graduating high school, Angela, okay?
And I heard that you toured 26 colleges.
It was exhausting.
Oh my gosh.
That was Kourtney's idea.
26 colleges.
He loved it.
He loved being on every campus,
talking to every president, every whomever, every student.
I was like, and we took an RV,
so you're cramped in a little thing, rolling around.
I was like, and put me in the hotel, like.
And I'll meet you at noon for lunch,
and then I can go on, then I got strength.
How are you, like, you're gonna be an empty nester.
How are you gonna do, so you wanna do theater now,
because you'll have more time again.
I would love to.
That's my first love, theater.
I went to, you know, drama school, started on the stage.
Yeah.
You know, haven't been on stage in a long time.
Was mountaintop maybe about 10 years ago.
Okay.
I remember Sam Jackson, myself.
And I would love to come back.
Come back to Broadway?
If you wait till you see me on stage, girl.
You think, oh, that hit the back of the house.
Okay.
That's when you learn to use that voice.
Okay.
To reach the back of the house.
All right, well, we are waiting.
We got our money in hand to get these tickets
to see you on Broadway, sis.
Let me find something good.
Okay, you will.
And another show that I love you on,
congratulations on season seven of 9-1-1.
9-1-1 premieres tonight.
And you know, you are the executive producer.
One of me.
You are one of a few.
Okay, well, I'm not interviewing them.
I'm interviewing you.
All right, all right.
You are the executive producer,
one of the executive producers.
And you also star in the show,
and it's so good.
Like, what do you love about making 9-1-1?
Listen, those individuals, they're,
they are the best in the business.
And the crew, the crew behind us,
we have so much fun.
You know, don't sleep.
Don't come in and take a nap,
waiting on, you know,
waiting because you're going to get pictures, videos.
They're going to make jokes, you know.
Yeah.
Tell Aisha Hines I said hello.
Isn't she the best?
Yeah, she is such the best.
Everybody is, but the show is just so good.
We just celebrated our 100th episode out there.
100 episodes.
100 big people,
because so many shows do not stay on the air.
So 100 episodes,
and y'all are working hard.
We did it.
And, okay, and you are always-
And they really got me working hard
trying to get this first episode out for season seven.
I mean, we're coming for it.
I don't even-
It's like a mini movie.
The season seven that you're doing?
And not only this, not only season seven,
I just saw you in a Netflix movie, Damsel.
Yes.
Number one.
Number one on Netflix, okay.
You are playing royalty again.
Lady Beiford.
Okay.
And it was really good.
Like, when do you,
do you breathe at all?
Sometimes.
It feels, very short, gasp.
Oh my gosh.
I just love, yes, so Damsel.
Can you tell everybody about Damsel?
Damsel.
I mean, for those of you who loved like Game of Thrones,
you know, that sort of world, that visual,
that bigger than life sci-fi, you know, it's that.
But it's this young woman coming of age
and she doesn't need anyone to save her.
She saves herself.
Oh my God.
She saves herself.
Well y'all, I got so many questions for Angela
and she is sticking around
and we're gonna take a ride through her amazing career
in my time machine when we come back.
Keep it right here.
Woo!
Sherri, we'll be right back.
Angela Bassett has an amazing career.
So we're gonna put her in my time machine
to go down memory lane with some of her most iconic roles.
Okay, so Angela, are you ready?
I'm ready.
All right, all right girl.
We gonna travel back in time.
Let's go.
Okay, here we go.
Here we go.
Okay, and we're gonna stop.
Okay, woo!
Back, Angela, in 1992.
And the role is Katherine Jackson from the TV movie,
The Jacksons, An American Dream.
Okay, now I know that you grew up
being the biggest Jackson 5 fan
and it was, you went to their first,
it was your first concert.
My first concert.
That you went to.
And I hear that Michael Jackson showed up in disguise
at the, when, on the movie set.
He did?
Did he?
Like, come by the set?
That sounds like something Michael would do.
Did you get to meet Michael Jackson on the set?
I did get to meet him, but not on the set.
But not on the set, but when did you?
NAACP Image Awards and I was sitting in the audience.
There was a break between the seat.
Really?
And Katie, you know, Ms. Katherine,
came walking down and I saw him with her,
but I dare not, even as a grown woman,
and I was still like, you know, your first crush.
But I said, hi, Ms. Katherine, and she stopped.
And he had walked on, so he turned around
to see who his mother had, and he came back
and he reached his hand out, his big hand,
and he said, oh, you were wonderful.
Oh!
The thrill, the thrill.
I just remember you going, Joe, let the kids sleep.
I mean, just, oh my God.
Go to bed, Joseph, go to bed.
Now, you, and we love that role.
Now, Nia Long is going to play Katherine Jackson
in the new biopic, Michael, so.
And Coleman Domingo.
And Joseph, you'll have to tell him to go to bed.
All right, so.
Now, what advice would you give to Nia Long?
Oh, Nia's marvelous.
I don't have to give her any advice.
Just do what she does.
And from the great handsome of the actress.
Okay, I'm gonna hit this button
and let's see where we're going next.
All right, here we go.
Okay, oh, oh, here we go.
All right, and here we are.
Okay, where we at?
We.
We are in the year 1993.
Can you do that face again for a second?
It is 1993, and here you are in the Oscar-nominated role,
your Oscar-nominated role as Tina Turner
in What's Love Got to Do With It.
Now, you tell me, I heard a rumor
that James Brown asked you to do a song with him
after he saw you in the movie.
I was at a, I think it was a national journalist
event, gala, dinner, and I was sitting,
I love it, I was sitting between the Godfather of Soul
and the mother of the Civil Rights Movement.
Oh my gosh, it was a park.
I was just like, oh, what is this world?
And I was like, I actually don't sing, sir, please.
I don't.
Really?
I lip-sync like a son of a gun, though.
Oh my gosh, he was like, don't worry about it,
we can fix that, we can fix it.
You and James Brown, I would have loved to have seen that.
All right, well, we gonna.
Say it loud.
Say it loud and say it proud.
Look at that, woo!
Let's keep going.
Here you go, all right.
Here we go, here we go, all right.
Okay, woo!
So, so now, Angela, we are back in the year 1998.
This is your role as Stella Payne
and how Stella got her groove back.
So, this, congratulations, because last year,
it was the film's 25th anniversary, yes?
Yes, for new Stella.
I think, now what did you say?
Can you say it loud?
Say it loud in the back, it might be.
I said, it might be time for a new Stella for the.
You think?
I am just gauging the temperature.
So, would y'all go see a new Stella?
Okay, so would you, you would actually get back on a plane
and go on back to another island?
Another island, itty.
Yes, yes, yes, I would.
How was it doing Stella got her groove back?
I loved it, I was always saying,
I want to do a project in an exotic locale.
You know, I was always, for the Jacksons, Pittsburgh.
I mean, shout out to Pittsburgh.
Yes, yes.
You know, you shoot at home, you know,
but to actually shoot in Jamaica, it was just beautiful.
Oh, sure, and the men love you.
Oh, they love you in Jamaica.
You can look like a couch in the middle,
love you in Jamaica, boy.
They make you feel so beautiful in Jamaica.
All right, so we got another Stella,
have got her groove back, we got to get ready
because we are manifesting that.
Yes, yes.
I'm just like, Angela, we have to do another one.
Here we go, okay, here we go.
What, what, I'm going to push this button.
Angela, there we go.
We are in the year 2006, this is your amazing role
as Tanya in the classic film,
y'all remember, Akeelah and the Bee.
Now, back at this time, Kiki was 11 years old
when she filmed this movie with you.
Is it true that she actually got you the role?
She sure did.
Really?
You know, Lawrence was in it,
he was one of the producers of it.
She said Lawrence, Lawrence Fishburne.
We know Ms. Lawrence Fishburne.
And, yeah, so she, who would you like to play your mom?
And she said Angela Bassett.
And you were so good.
You were so good.
Now, you can't, you just, you had the cigarette
and you were so good with Kiki.
Now, I have to ask you, okay,
we're going to do one more, Angela, push the button.
All right, here we go.
There we go, push it, there we go, all right.
Now, you push that button, Angela.
Push that button, let's see where it stops.
Okay.
This is the one where I was breathless.
We're in the year 2022, Angela,
and that is when you slayed your Oscar-nominated role
of Queen Ramunda in Wakanda forever.
Okay, so, spoiler alert,
when you first read that script
and you found out that your character, Queen Ramunda, dies,
I know you told Ryan Coogler that you will rule the day
you killed off Queen Ramunda.
Like, do you still feel-
Wasn't that a queenly thing to say?
You will rule the day.
So queenly.
Now, do you still feel that way?
Well, you know, in Marvel Universe and fashion,
all things can happen unexpectedly.
Yes, they got that vibe.
I'm not saying anything's happening,
but I'm saying that it's possible.
Okay, well.
They may have a heart-shaped herb
laying about somewhere that I can take and revive me.
They got that vibranium.
I should write Coogler,
and you better vibranium back, Queen Ramunda.
Get that vibranium.
Something.
All right, so we're gonna hit that button
because we're gonna go back to present day.
And there we go.
Oh my God.
All right, we're good.
Now hit that button one more time.
There we go.
Angela Bassett.
It is an honor to host you at the Sherri Show.
Please come back.
Please come back, and I love you so much.
On Netflix right now.
And y'all, check out Angela as the narrator
for the new docu-series, Queens, on Disney's Broadway, y'all.
We are mad.
We are speaking it.
And that's an influencer who's gone viral
just by being kind.
Keep it right here.
Angela Bassett.
I love it, I love that.
Sherri, we'll be right back.
My next guest has gone viral
for his videos of spreading kindness
and helping the homeless community.
Take a look.
What makes me happy?
Well, I'm trying to start a window cleaning business, bro.
Sometimes I only make like 10, $15.
I barely make enough money to get myself
something to eat sometimes, bro.
But I'm not gonna stop.
I work 12 hours a day, you know what I mean?
I make eight bucks.
I'm gonna save it towards getting my machine.
Well, surprise.
What's this, bro?
Yo, this $500, bro.
This for me?
Yeah.
No, bro, are you serious?
This for me?
Yeah.
Nah, this is gonna be my first deposit
towards my work machine, man.
God bless you, brother.
God bless you, bro, man.
Peter Bond.
So, Peter, you are called the Robin Hood of New York City.
And watching this video of how you made this man,
you made him so happy and probably changed his life.
How did you start making these videos?
Well, it started when I was younger.
I was a college dropout,
so I worked at Chipotle for about six years.
And even stemming from there,
I used to give my free employee meals
to homeless people I've seen in the streets.
And it just carried over.
There was a night, January 2021,
where me and my friends,
we went to a party at Times Square.
This was before the crazy COVID restrictions.
And then we come out of the club
and then a homeless guy comes up to me
and he's like, hey, does anyone have money?
And I give him a $20 bill.
I'm like, hey, I never carry cash,
but tonight I have it, here you go.
And he was just so thankful.
He had tears rolling in his eyes.
He said, hey, it's been a week since I've been helped.
You made me feel special, thank you so much.
And I asked him for a hug and he was like,
oh, I smell bad, I'm dirty.
I'm like, dude, I can do laundry anytime.
Come here.
And I gave him a hug.
Mm.
This is what it's about.
And you are really out here
because you wanna change people's misconceptions
about the homeless.
You say that the homeless people are forgotten about.
Yes, they are.
Well, let's start off with this.
Homelessness, it's a situation, not an appearance, right?
And with these guys, it's in our everyday experiences
where we walk past them, we act like they don't exist.
So the premise of my videos and my content
is to shed light on those people
who seem to be forgotten in our society.
We tend to forget that they're humans too,
who love, who hurt, who feel,
who have the same capabilities like us,
everyday people over here.
Absolutely, and you get both positive
and negative comments on your videos.
Some people say that it's exploitive.
What would you say to that when they say it's exploitive?
Well, let's look at the bigger picture, right?
So I knew upon making this content
that I would get those comments.
So I did something.
I went to all five boroughs of New York City
and I asked 20 homeless people from each borough
what they'd think if I helped them,
but it was documented.
And not surprisingly, they all said they didn't care.
And a few of them even told me,
the people who would say, hey, you're exploiting us
are the same people who are not helping,
who walk past us, who ignore us.
Ooh.
Yeah.
You know, and I love that you're doing this
because we need this so much to be able to see.
People just wanna be seen.
They wanna be seen.
And since we're talking about acts of kindness,
we thought that we would just do a random act of kindness
for one of our lucky members in the studio audience.
So we have a lucky person in the studio audience
who's going to win a trip to Las Vegas, okay?
And not only going to Las Vegas,
but you're gonna get tickets to see the Wu-Tang Clan,
the saga continues.
Now, this hip hop residency is the first of its kind
and it will be a Wu-Tang experience like never before.
Now, all of our audience's names are in this vote.
So if you pick one, pick one and give it to me.
Pick just, just grab one and give it to me.
Go in there,
cause they gonna get the Wu-Tang experience.
Okay, so I'm opening it up, opening it up.
All right.
It is Kim Albuquerque.
Thank you so much for inspiring us
and reminding us to just spread kindness
and to see beyond what people look like.
So thank you so much.
Thank you as well.
