From Snow to Desert In 24 Hours Ep #6 | Andorra, Bardenas & Madrid By Motorbike
After 3 months of magnificent discovery in France, here we are in Andorra. We know absolutely nothing about this country except that it is one of the smallest in Europe. /- We enter the country from the northeast, leaving the Ariège Pyrenees. It's November 9 and the snow is already here. We cross the border and pass into the town of Pas de la Casa. We continue to climb and stop to fill up with fresh air at 2408m. / -The cars we follow and the luxury hotel zones remind us that we are in a small tax haven. We stop for a picnic at the side of the road before arriving in Andorra la Vella. This evening we are sleeping with Yolanda, a woman we contacted on Couchsurfing. Not being immediately available, she told us to come to her work to give us the keys to her apartment. /-The next day, time for discovery! We mount Falkor and fly through the northern valleys. The villages we pass through and visit give us a feeling of traveling back in time. Especially since our knightly armor matches well with the decor. / -We go from the calm of the villages to the hustle and bustle of the capital in an instant and discover its center where each square meter is optimized to display advertisements, which is a bit dizzying. / -The next day, we are already leaving this mini country which will have made us rediscover city life. We cross our 3rd border following a magnificent road and disembark in the north of Spain. We seek warmth and therefore flee the mountains for milder latitudes. / -We have 400km to go to discover the famous Bardenas desert. Today we will drive for 5 hours towards the southwest. What's cool is that the temperatures actually rise a little going south but the problem with going west is being totally blinded by the sun throughout the afternoon. / -All our belongings are soaked but we get motivated, we pack up camp and we hit the road towards the Bardenas desert. We have been recommended it a lot but we have no idea what it is like, or how we should visit it. / -We then see a sign and begin to explore the south of the park. After the south of the park, we discover the main entrance. We dry our soaked tent from the day before and lend our tools to a struggling French cyclist. In exchange he gives us the map of the park... and there you have it, we know where we are, and we discover that we can do a large 50km loop through the park. / -Well we're in Spain, but it's still really cool. A cousin of Natha lives in Madrid, so we hop on Falkor and fly to the center of the country. / -We cross the south of the park again, then return to civilization. We have 400km to drive but we decide to take our time and make a few stops on the road. / -Arriving in the capital, we try to find our Airbnb in the northwest of the city. A broken road offers us a beautiful panorama of the enormous towers of the city center and after a few back and forth and wrong directions we are at the yurt. / -We will also have the chance to visit Chinchon, a typical village 1 hour from Madrid and which is known for its numerous Hollywood film shoots. / -After a week of wonderful discovery and rejuvenation as a family, we are ready to continue our journey, always following our imaginary compass which leads us towards the west. But all that is another story. /
