Hi guys, I'm back for another small painting demonstration, and in this video I'm gonna be showing how I paint ears.
It's really no different than painting anything else, except for the fact that ears have this peculiar shape, if you think about it.
In the beginning, I'm establishing all the main forms and colors, and then I'm gonna build on top of it, develop it further, adding more depth and liveliness to it.
After that, the last step will be refining details and glazing, which I'll talk about a bit later.
I think one of the great things about oil paint is that it dries slowly, you can lay paint on top of paint, and it'll blend really well into one another, creating pretty smooth transitions.
Anyway, at this point I'm starting to develop the painting further, and adding details.
I've found that in many cases it's better to work from the general to specific, because you'll get more accuracy that way.
Also, if you're going for a fairly realistic result, try to paint in more of a smooth and subtle way.
It doesn't mean that you have to blend everything together, not at all.
It just means that you don't over-define things, or exaggerate them, you know?
We tend to over-define things, especially facial features, when in reality they're quite subtle.
And that's when having a reference photo, if you're not painting directly from life, comes in handy.
You can put it next to your painting, compare it, and ask yourself, what is more subtle?
Like, did I exaggerate that jawline? Or, did I make this highlight pop more than it should be? And on and on.
Really, it will help you improve so much, I always recommend it.
I did almost this entire study in one layer, wet on wet, but I've also added a couple of small details on the second layer, after the painting has dried.
And did a little bit of glazing.
Glazing is basically applying a thin, transparent layer of paint on top of a dry, opaque one.
And here, by doing this, I've added a bit more color and saturation to some areas of the ear.
That's pretty much it.
By the way, I want to say thank you guys for your constant support.
I hope I'm bringing you value with these short tutorials and painting demos.
Also, I'm so excited to announce that paintings Glow and Imagination are now available as prints on my website.
You can find the link in the description.
I'm so happy with how they turned out.
The colors are incredible, and I'm so proud of it.
And yeah, that's all for now.
Thanks for watching, and I'll talk to you guys later.
Bye.
