After a couple of days of work and being ill we decide to leave our VW camper and start exploring the outdoors. Living in a van allows you to see beautiful places at a fraction of the cost. Today we explore Krka national park in Croatia. Sorry in advance for how chaotic it was we were pushed for time and just had a lot of fun!
Good morning guys. So you may be wondering why I'm being so casual around the train tracks
this morning, just having my coffee. But we've actually been staying at a really cool park up
here in Croatia. It's an abandoned train station. I don't know why it was abandoned, it's pretty
creepy now, not gonna lie. Obviously everything is still here, you can sort of figure out
how everything once was, but it's been pretty cool to be waking up and the sun rises just over
the mountain over there. So it's been nice to come sit out here. It's not too cold yet either,
but we thought we'd bring you along a day with us today. We're going to go and see one of
Croatia's many national parks today as well.
Thought it'd just be fun to bring you along and show you what we get up to.
Are you ready for a day of exploring? Absolutely. Let's go then.
We've not driven far, but we have come to our first waterfall of the day. We are going to be
in Krka National Park for the day, but this one's actually free. We were going to come to this
yesterday, but we're trying to cram it in today now, and it looks like it's only 400 meters down.
Literally a sign. This is why we get lost.
I don't think this is right. It's definitely not the right way. It's gonna be worth it.
I must say, traveling with Mitch is definitely preparing me for the time that we have children,
because I'm always on edge. He always does stuff that he shouldn't do,
and always worries me that he's gonna hurt himself. So if I ever have a boy, I'll know.
I'll be well prepared.
Oh, I'm all dirty. That was sick. So it turns out that we didn't need to go scrambling,
and if Mitchell had just followed the sign, there would have been these lovely steps
for us to walk down. All that we needed to do was follow the sign.
What sort of numpty would go down that way?
What, the bit where it says don't cry? I don't know what to say. We're now here at the
Burnham Amphitheatre, and it looks pretty cool, so I'm excited to go check it out.
Can you hear that? Oh yeah, how it echoes around. That sounds mad. That is so weird.
I wonder if they can hear it on here.
Hello. So Mitch being Mitch has decided to run back to the van to go grab the speaker.
There's no one around, but I am excited to see the rest of the National Park today. I'm hoping
we're able to fit it all in. There's waterfalls everywhere. Wow. That's insane. That is so,
so cold. They don't make these paths down to the waterfalls very easy.
It's so wet down there. I don't even know if you'll be able to record anything.
You can't take the camera down there, no way. I'm wet through.
It's just a little bit, it's just a little wet. It's just spitting a little bit.
I wish I'd have got it on camera how hard I hit it. I literally stood up, didn't see this at all,
and smashed my head on top of it. I'm gonna have a massive lump there I think. Bloody hell that hurt.
So one thing to note about the north side of Kirker National Park is, it is steep.
I don't know if you can see, but yeah, you definitely have to be well prepared. The
lady at the kiosk told me to go back and put trainers on, and she also did tell us to bring
water. But especially if you actually go down to the base of the waterfall, the viewpoint's
probably fine, but going up and down these is pretty hard. Let's see the damage then.
Is it bad? I hit that branch pretty hard. Does it make me look well hard? It goes with all your
other scars on your face. Oh I'm dripping with sweat aren't I? That was hard. But we're on a
time crunch, so everyone that we've spoken to who works here seems to think that we're not
going to be able to do it all in the day. Well no, they've said it's a push, so we need to get a
crack on. Oh my god, look at the state of me. Do we know where we're going? No. We're really trying
to pick up the pace now with getting everything done today, so we've just shoved copious amounts
of food in our garden to basically fuel us for the rest of the day. And now we're here at
Roski Slap. Slap is waterfall in Croatian, and to be honest, I think it makes a lot of sense.
We're carrying on our little speedy route of Kirka today, and we've come to a place called Visovac,
and it's basically a monastery that's on an island. You can get the boat over and it'll run
run over, especially on a Sunday I believe, but we thought we may as well get the drone instead
of waiting for a boat and going over. We think the view's probably a lot better from up there.
How's it going up there mum? You got a big weapon between your legs.
We've come across a tank on the road. We were just driving past and then there was this
just chilling, and no one else is here. You know, you sometimes have your moments about being in
the van and being small and cramped. Now imagine living inside that for months on end with people
trying to kill you every day. You know I can do it. Props to him. Props to him.
Shout out to the tank massive. You're doing a great job.
We're now at the last stop of the day. We've come to the bus station terminal bit to go to
It's the most famous waterfall in the Kyrgyzstan National Park area. So apparently it's five kuna
for one person, one way to get the bus there because you can't access it any other way
otherwise. So that's what we're going to do now, but we've only got less than two
hours of the park still being open. There's a bus here now so hopefully we can get on it.
Backseat badass.
Get the backseat to me. We're all cool mate. Never had the backseat at school. We've made it
and we just got dropped off by the bus. The driver said nothing. We didn't know if we were here or not
and then luckily a guy just said to us walk down that road, turn, follow two kilometers.
But it looks like we have come at the last point of the day. The last bus back is at five
but it's only two kilometers and we've got an hour and a half so should be okay.
I need to look up tiles because I'm scared of getting it.
This view here now. I think everyone else has as well. I can't imagine what this is like in peak
season and at a normal time of day. It's only 45 minutes until the park actually closes so
this is probably very light to what's actually here but you don't normally see it online. When
you look up a photo in the summer with the water looking really nice there's probably a thousand
people or they're all photoshopped out of it because let me tell you people are just pushing
around like some people were pushing other people out the way because they were in their photo.
Is that just a British thing that we wouldn't do that? I don't know or you'd really you just
stand there and wait for ages whereas these were just like can you move? Or one German lady was
shooing them away. Oh people man. We're going to have to fight someone for the back seat this time.
Too late. Someone's on the back? Oh that's it. Right who wants it? I'll give it. I'm stuck.
Honestly that was so loud. So this is where we decided to park up for the night. We're just in
a town called Scriddin. Really not far from where we just were at the waterfall so we've just found
this on park for night. It seems like it's okay. We do feel a little bit guilty though because we've
just gone past like three paying campsites and then we've just found this but it's out the way.
It seems like a really quiet road. We've tried to tuck away and hopefully we don't get told off.
I always have that little bit of fear for it wherever we park up. I always have a little bit
of a fear that we're going to get the knock and I don't know why and I don't think I'll ever go
unless we're on a paying campsite but so far this trip we've not been on a campsite yet so
this will do for tonight but I'm ready to make some food. We've had a long day of walking.
We're not having a good evening are we? Do you want to explain? Well we wanted to get some meat
out to defrost so we could have it for tea. That's frozen solid. Then Martha opened the cupboard and
our coffee grinder landed on top of the glass and my heart nearly sunk because I thought that the
glass was going to smash and if it did I would have cried. I don't know how we would have
replaced this but she's done us well. So we're making chorizo tacos. Peppers are out the window.
Let's see if the onions are actually okay. They're going to be okay I think.
So now we've got chorizo, onion, butter beans. Oh and just right there, just Mitch,
just move your head. Look at the cupboard. Oh yeah, there we go. There's his nice big
scar on his head. What? What on here? Yeah. Can you see it? Yeah I can see the lump. Oh dear.
This is gonna be awful. Oh will you stop moaning? This is gonna taste like crap.
It's not too bad. Everything was just a little bit too much in the kitchen today.
Have you cheered up yet? Sort of. It's just I was so looking forward to something nice to eat today
because I didn't eat anything yesterday so today I wanted something nice.
I thought it was good. It was all right. I'm shattered. Yeah we're not making this video
very good at the end and to be honest with you it's because we're tired and ready to call it a
day. If you've made it this far then thank you for sticking around and I hope you've enjoyed
watching us today. It's not been a very typical day in the life but it's been good nonetheless
and it's been nice to be able to actually get out and explore some of Croatia which I'm hoping that
we'll be able to do in the next few weeks whilst we're here. So if you're here now still then
please give this video a like and make sure that you're subscribed and we will catch you next time.
