it was a rainy day today but luckily there were no flooding issues it is some good news 22 newrome team meteorologist Adam shumko is working for you in Chickapee with how that was a very different story 150 years ago today Nick Siara today marks the 150th anniversary of the devastating M River flood on May 16th 1874 a dam along the M River in Williamsburg collapsed causing a major disaster this is just Downstream of the dam and when it broke a wall of water flooded everything in its path the dam was shily built it was always leaking and after 9 years of life it finally gave way fortunately at 7 in the morning so the the the Watchman was able to witness this he leaped on his horse came riding down 3 miles right into this street 139 people died and that number would have been a lot higher if the dam had collapsed during the [Music] night on Thursday a special remebrance was held to commemorate the mil River disaster and the areas that were impacted by it the bells will toll here 19 times and in haydenville and so on each time totally adding up to 139 and we thought instead of having all the churches ring their Bells at the same time we would do it in this Cascade as a way of if you like mimicking the movement of the flood down the valley the bells were rung along the M River from Williamsburg all the way down to holuk now the commemoration was held to honor those who died in the mil River flood and also to bring awareness to floods that have taken place recently and the potential for more flooding in the future working for you live in chapi I'm 22 new Storm Team meteorologist Adam stco
