Hey guys, welcome to my channel.
I'm Alex and today I'm gonna be showing you
how to pack a carry-on suitcase for a winter trip.
So I'm actually heading to Toronto for a five day trip
and right now it's the winter here.
So a lot of people have trouble packing everything
into a carry-on when they're traveling during the winter,
just because you have to pack bulkier clothes
to keep you warm.
So today I'm just gonna show you what I pack
for a winter trip and how I fit it all into a carry-on bag.
Now, I just wanted to mention
that I actually am working without power.
We had a really bad windstorm yesterday
and we lost electricity.
So I'm actually just working with the light from a window.
So hopefully it won't get too dim,
but the light might change as I'm filming this video.
So I apologize in advance for that.
Now, before I start packing my carry-on suitcase,
the first thing I like to do is check the weather
of the destination that I'm heading to.
That way I ensure that I'm bringing
the appropriate clothing.
The next thing I like to do is to figure out
exactly what I'm gonna be doing on each day
and what kind of outfit I need for that activity.
And that way I can avoid overpacking.
Now, a good trick to save space in your carry-on bag
is to wear the bulkier items on you
on the day of your flight instead of packing them
in your carry-on suitcase.
So with that in mind, I'm actually gonna be wearing
my heavier pieces of clothing like this cable knit sweater
and my coat and my boots are gonna come
onto the plane with me.
Now here, I'm actually gonna be traveling
with two pairs of boots.
So this one is the lighter pair.
So this is the one I'm gonna pack in my carry-on bag
and my heavier Doc Martens,
I'm gonna be wearing onto the plane with me.
Now, another trick to save space in my carry-on
is that I'll be taking all the socks
that I'm gonna be bringing on the trip
and I'm gonna stuff my boots with them.
This will not only save space in your carry-on,
but it also prevent your boots from like getting crushed
and collapsing while you're traveling.
And these boots are actually gonna go into my shoe bag here
to make sure that they don't get scuffed
or wrecked during my travels.
So I like to slip them into this little pocket
at the top of my carry-on here
and this prevents them from getting crushed.
So the next thing to go into my carry-on bag are my pants.
I'm actually only gonna be packing two pairs of pants
in my carry-on suitcase
and the other one I'm gonna be wearing on the plane.
So here I have a pair of black jeans
that go pretty much with everything.
And I also decided to bring a pair of dark blue jeans
which can be dressed up or dressed down.
The next thing I'm gonna pack are my tops.
Now, when I'm packing for the winter,
I like to bring pieces that I can layer
and I always select pieces that are neutral,
that way they can be mixed and matched really easily.
So here I have two sweaters.
I decided to bring my black turtleneck
and my cream turtleneck so they're easy to match
with everything I decided to bring on this trip.
They're also made out of a very fine knit
so they're not very bulky
and they won't take too much space in my carry-on bag.
The next thing to go into my carry-on is a long-sleeve shirt.
This is great because it can be layered onto a T-shirt
or it can be put underneath a sweater
to keep you warmer during those cool days.
The next thing to go in is a long-sleeved PJ
to keep me warm.
And then finally, I have all my T-shirts here.
I'm actually packing two long-sleeved T-shirts,
one white, one black, and two short-sleeved T-shirts.
The next thing to go in are my undergarments.
I like to pack them in a little packing cube like this
just to keep them all in one place
and so that they're easy to access during my trip.
All right, so the next thing I'm gonna pack
is my medication.
I always travel with medication
in case I get sick during my travels.
So I usually just keep a little Ziploc
with all my medication ready to go.
That way, I just grab this Ziploc every time I travel
and I just restock it once I get back from traveling.
All right, so now let's talk about toiletries.
Now, when you're packing everything in a carry-on bag,
you will have to separate all your liquid toiletries
from your dry ones.
So what I like to do is put all my liquid toiletries
in a TSA-approved clear bag like this
so that I can pull this out quickly
when I'm passing security.
And all my dry toiletries can be put
into a separate little bag like this
that can be placed in my carry-on bag.
And that also includes your makeup.
So if you have any liquid makeup,
it will have to go in your 3-1-1 bag,
but any dry makeup can just be placed
in a makeup bag like this and thrown into your carry-on bag.
Now, if you wanna see exactly how I packed my toiletries
and my makeup, I actually put out a video a few years ago,
so I'll put the link to that video right up here
and in the description box down below.
All right, so my carry-on bag is all packed.
Now I'm gonna be showing you exactly what I pack
in my tote bag for the plane ride.
So as my personal item,
I actually decided to bring my tote bag this time around
just because I can use this as a purse during my travels.
And this is big enough to hold pretty much everything
I need for the plane ride.
Now, the first thing to go into my tote bag is my wallet
because I have all my money and my IDs in here
that I need during my trip.
The next thing to go in are my epinephrines.
Unfortunately, I have food allergies,
so I always have to travel with these.
Now, when I'm traveling, I always like to bring two of these.
That way, if I use one, I always have one as a backup.
The next thing to go in are my glasses.
So I'm just gonna put them in a case here
and throw them into my tote bag.
The next thing I'll bring is a little pill bottle
filled with painkillers and some anti-nausea medication
in case I start feeling ill during the flight.
I'll have easy access to it.
And I always bring a pack of gum like this
just so that I can chew on it during takeoff and landing
to avoid that ear pain that many people get when flying.
Another thing I always carry on me are antibacterial wipes.
I use these to disinfect my hands,
but I also use them to wipe down the tray
or any surface that I'm gonna touch during my flight.
Now, another thing I keep in my purse are my masks.
So I have a whole bunch of masks here.
Since I won't have access to laundry facilities,
I like to bring disposable masks.
And I just like to keep them in a reusable snack bag
like this to make sure that they stay clean
and disinfected during my travels.
The next thing to go in is my phone.
Now, on this phone, I downloaded a couple of new games,
and I also have all my music on this
to play during my travels.
Now, I'm also gonna bring my iPad.
I actually use my iPad for work,
but I'm also gonna use it as entertainment.
So I downloaded a whole bunch of shows and movies
to watch during my flight.
Now, I'll just use another one of these snack bags
just to store all my wires
that I'm gonna need during my trip.
So here I have my charging block and my charging wires
that are gonna go right into this snack bag.
I also have my earphones here
that I'm gonna throw into this bag.
And I also always bring a power bank like this
so that I have something to charge my phone with
or my iPad during my trip.
And the last thing I'm gonna pack
is this flexible device stand.
This is really cool because it's super lightweight
and it's completely flat, so it's easy to throw into my bag.
But you can fold this into any shape
to hold any of your devices.
So whether it be a phone or your iPad,
this allows me to watch my shows comfortably
during the flight without breaking my neck.
And the last thing to go into my bag
is my Liquids toiletry bag.
So I'm just gonna throw this in here
so that I can pull it out when passing security.
And there you go.
Everything I need for the trip is packed in this tote bag
and in my one carry-on suitcase.
