Bonjour à tous! Let's walk today in this beautiful Italian village, Dolciacqua.
It's very close to the border with France.
If you take highway, it will take only one hour from Nice.
So this is one of the perfect destinations for one day trip.
Just don't forget your ID cards.
Most of the time nobody will ask you questions on the border but just in case.
The first picture you will get I think it would be with this old beautiful bridge over a scenic river.
The outside view of the village is amazing with the old castle on the top.
From here Monet painted his famous Le Chateau de Dolciacqua.
This work is now in Monet Museum in Paris.
Claude Monet painted the bridge in 1884 which he named a jewel of lightness
which sounds much more romantic than just a medieval donkey back bridge.
We don't rush to go to the old town. We will go there but just in a moment.
The view of the village from outside is maybe the most beautiful.
You will see some souvenir shops.
Well, this village is a touristic village.
On weekends there are lots of locals as well and French people who loves to come here
and enjoy the Italian cuisine and drink a real espresso.
On another side of the bridge just along the old town there are very nice cafés with the best cappuccino.
So take your time and enjoy the view.
Monet had two paintings of this bridge from both sides.
So make sure you enjoy both of these views.
Now we are ready to go inside of the old town.
The first street that you will take is very dark day and night.
There are lights on.
You have an impression that you are in a movie about the nights.
It gives a very special atmosphere.
In the shops you will see lots of copies of Monet's work.
Like this one for example.
Even if this first street is in complete darkness it's decorated very beautifully.
You really feel like you are in decoration of some old movie.
At the end of this unique street we gonna take a road that leads up to the castle.
And from here you see the light at the end of the tunnel.
There are many artists in this village and there are lots of workshops.
Dolce Acqua also welcome lots of art events.
If you remember in my last video I shared with you that some time ago we bought a painting of Dolce Acqua.
And I hoped to find the same artist.
I hope that his workshop is open because the season starts already.
And voilà!
This is very very similar to the painting that I bought.
And I think this is it. I think I found it.
Let's go and take a look inside.
I like this one.
We already bought a painting.
Yes, this is my husband.
Ah, you!
I already have things.
I already have beautiful things.
I have done cute things.
And the last time your husband gave me this painting was 4 years ago.
Yes.
I am 18 years old.
And this was him, I remember.
And this is yours?
This is my husband.
But inside is my husband because my husband is a drawing teacher.
I did the academy but he is a teacher.
So this is him and the other one?
This is him.
I do the smallest things.
This is what I do.
This is me.
I do the smallest things.
Ah, ok.
This is what I do.
This is so pretty.
I did cute things.
Yes, I did cute things.
This one is not the biggest.
And all the things are made of gold.
Because we have the production of paintings.
Oh, be careful.
This one is 4 euros, this one is 6 euros.
Because I sold it in the store.
Ah, you sold it in the store?
Yes.
I like this one.
A big one.
I like this one too.
I am so happy to have two more paintings from this beautiful couple, Eliede and Maurice.
And there is much more beautiful works in their shop.
Eliede allowed us to film a little bit.
She was very welcoming.
So thank you so much.
Thank you very much.
And they are very generous.
The prices are very attractive.
Ah yes, this is me doing with the coffee.
Oh, it's so beautiful.
A bit special.
A bit different from the others.
There are no more things on it.
It's perfect.
Yes, it's beautiful.
And this one.
And this one too.
I am going to lift it.
Like this.
It's so beautiful.
We are going to look at it every day.
It will be in my life forever.
Yes, yes, like watercolors.
Use the coffee like watercolors.
There is more dense, more rich, more light.
It's different.
The effect is different.
Are you from Dolce?
No, I am from Milan.
I studied in Milan.
I was born in Milan.
I did the academy in Milan.
And we have our laboratory in a gallery
more than 40 years in Milan.
And with my husband we have chosen to live here.
The people here are so nice.
They do so many good things.
It's so beautiful.
We come here very often.
We eat very well.
There are good restaurants.
Thank you very much.
You too.
See you next time.
Their shop is just before the chateau.
So now we are going straight to the castle.
Do we go straight or turn left?
No, we turn left.
Via Castello.
It's here.
Castello Doria.
Look at the roses.
They already have flowers here.
The castle is on the very top of the village.
And we paid 15 euros
for a family ticket.
Here someone is very lucky
to have the rooftop terraces
to enjoy the sun.
Unlike to those
who have their apartments
in the first dark street.
There are lots of history.
The Doria castle was built
in 12th century.
It's beautiful, isn't it?
The castle was damaged
during fighting
in the 18th century.
And then again
by an earthquake.
And every time I go inside
it's decorated differently.
But today's decoration
is just
something.
It's always windy here.
And they put these bells
that swing very gently.
And you listen to a music.
I hope you hear the music
that comes through the wind.
You can stay here
and look at it for hours.
The history of the castle
is fascinating.
And you can learn
all about
in this room.
I very hope
that the sound
of the wind
that was caught by camera
was not that disturbing.
But I had to leave it like this
to try to share
the same experience that we had.
Neither me nor you.
There is still...
There is no one.
Yes, there is someone.
Hello.
There are books
that cost 10 euros.
Look, it's so beautiful.
They are beautiful.
Can I try?
We are on our way
out from the village.
Stopped to check one more shop.
And we still
didn't visit the church.
What medieval village
is without church?
So after that we go straight there.
But we can't
not to go inside
of all of these little
cute shops.
They are just so nice.
And the prices
are not hurting you so much.
And as we are in Italy
we feel ourselves
like a board.
So we have to bring
some souvenirs.
We can take the ice cream
there and you will eat it.
This is not the end.
I know this video
is long already.
But we can't go back to France
without a pizza.
You will not go back
either.
So let's check what's in
this restaurant.
Look, pizza is less expensive.
It's 8 euros.
No surprise.
There are many
different pizza and
pasta.
We are at the main square
which is on another
side of the river.
And all restaurants
here looks
out over the bridge
and castle and
village and church.
So this is
the only place
to eat because
in the village you saw
that there are no
restaurants with the terrace
inside the village.
And in plus
in this square there
are a fountain and
the children
if you are traveling with kids, the children
can play.
So everyone will enjoy
with their time.
Now
it's the time to say
goodbye to Dolce Acqua.
And
we are not taking
a highway. We always
drive here by
the coast road because
the road is just stunning.
Sometimes
we can have some traffic on the border.
So this is
we are crossing the border
now.
This evening there are no traffic.
So we are free to
go.
Et voila, we are back to
France. Thank you so much
for watching this video
and we will see you
very soon in our village
again. Bisous à tous
et à bientôt.
